Two Servers?
I had a brilliant idea, even though I know absolutely nothing about computers. Could we have two servers? One for General, NS2 and JG, and the other for the remaining areas?
If you're not going to do something about threads like The Volcano or NEE's House, then that's what you could do. I think.

Two things-
First off the volcano is no more. I ended it a while ago.
Secondly, although this sounds like a great idea it would be very expensive. Unless NS started a donation system, I know I'd donate some money if that happend.
if ($numserv == 2) {
$price=$price*2;
$income=0;
$cashflow= $income-$price;
}
else {
}

Yeah, that would be nice, but is decidely non-trivial (and not cheap) to implement.

*Cough* DONATION SYSTEM!!! *Cough*
Hmm...did I say something? :wink:
Just a suggestion... since I know nothing about computers, didn't expect it to be the idea to end all ideas.
And the Volcano was an example, Basenjji.
I would donate if they had one.
if ($numserv == 2) {
$price=$price*2;
$income=0;
$cashflow= $income-$price;
}
else {
}
Means what now? :?:

Ah, ok then Roan. Just wanted to make sure everyone knew I ended it. Can't have people think I'm a spammer! :P :wink: :lol:
if ($numserv == 2) {
$price=$price*2;
$income=0;
$cashflow= $income-$price;
}
else {
}
Means what now? :?:
if ($numserv == 2) {
Opens the if/then statement, calls on a variable ($numserv, meaning the number of servers), and checks the variable against a general statement to see if the statement is true or false. If it's true...
$price=$price*2;
$income=0;
$cashflow= $income-$price;
}
Then the $price variable gets doubled, the $income variable is set to zero, and the $cashflow variable is determined by subtracting $price from $income. The If part of the statement is closed.
else {
}
If the general statement is not true, then this block of code is executed (the "then" part of if/then statements). Since there's no code here, the program does nothing if the statement is false.

Thanks. I'm more of a political evil genius.

Anyone intrested in donating to NS for a better server, express your intrest here.
It's also very hard to split it this way. You can't just site half of a forum on one machine and the other half on the other, without serious coding to mesh them together. A better thing to do would be to move the forum back end to a seperate SQL server, whilst leaving the front end stuff on another (and I would assume that NS also has a seperate SQL server)

Bas, I've offered, many other people have offered. The best way you can donate money is by buying the books. Both of them are great, and I suggest you do just that if you want more money going towards the server.
Thats really all you can do right now.
Hehe, what happens if you guys donate money for a new server, and max decided to give all the moderators, and himself a raise? Anyway, my nation is very poor and my forum doesn't work properly, can you donate some to me too? :twisted:

If we had two servers, the first thing I'd do is put the forums on one and the game on another. Splitting individual forums between machines would be much tougher.
But, as mentioned elsewhere, I have high hopes of solving all our forum performance issues soon. ;)
As for this talk of giving mods a raise... quiet, you'll give them ideas!
