The sticky thread that adresses this question had a dead link concearning it. Unless that was some subtle attempt at humour that I totaly missed, I'd like to re-ask the question. Assumeing the origional founder does not exsist anymore, how does one get appointed founder of a region?

You cannot be appointed founder of a region (except in extreme cases in which the mods decide to intervene - usually in some crisis - and appoint someone).

The way to do it is to have everyone leave the region, wait for the game update, which will delete the region as it is empty, and then have someone recreate the region (ie in that way become the region's founder).

I would suggest you monitor your region for a while to see when the game update happens, so that you can all leave as close to that time as possible, in order to avoid other players entering the region. You should also recreate the region quickly, so that no one else does it before you.

Are you referring to the region of Vancouver? If so, this requires a slightly different (and more complicated) strategy. To begin with, you (or one of your allies) will have to secure the delegate position.

Secure the delegacy, then ask everyone to leave the region.
When they do, password-protect the region, and leave. When the game updates, the region will be deleted and you can found it again.
DO NOT simply eject everyone if you become delegate, because this would constitute a griefing and you may well be deleted.

Vancouver is what got me thinking of it but it was a more general question, it's mentioned several times in assorted FAQ's and help sections, but never explained.

Yeah...we learnt about this the hard way in my region, but we received some great assistance from a few benevolent nations in the game.

the mods do not apoint founders anymore, the policy on apointing founders was only valid for a month after the founders thing got started and only applied to large established regions, once the month was up, the policy was revoked, I hope this answered your question.
