Military oddities

I strangely don't remember ever offering much support in the way of my military. I've been here a little while, one of the thousand largest nations nowdays, and I am fairly certain I've made every anti-military decision possible along the way.

Indeed- the present UN stats say:

Gigglealia is ranked 2nd in the region and 93,523rd in the world for Largest Defense Forces (per capita).
Given there's only 94256 nations in total, I'm a long way down the list.

The point then is... "The Giggling Gaggle of Gigglealia is a massive, safe nation, renowned for its compulsory military service.".

o.O Why? I don't want to be renowned for anything to do with the military, indeed I've sought to avoid that at all costs and the UN agrees that I've suceeded. Given that I've got 1.968 billion, if I had compulsory military service I'd have one of the largest nationstates armed forces... while the UN says I've got one of the smallest.

Not happy :( Too many guns makes us stop giggling and start to cry.

Well, the way the game works is that it keeps track of variables behind your nation and uses those to make your spotlight. Basically, at some point in time you made a decission that was (either fairly or unfairly) taken to mean "compulsory military service" (which is a one-or-the-other variable that can only be set to "on" during the game). Since, and apperently before, then you have been hurting the military as much as you possibly can. This means that whatever stat (or combination of stats) governs your military might according to the game are very very low, but the one choice set "military service is compulsory" to on and it still is since there isn't a way to undo it (as of now ... future issues may make it undo-able)

I think compulsory military service is one of the stats that is switched on (or not) when you answer the questions while creating your nation. Hence, as Naleth says, permanently sticky.

Those variables rotate upon refreshing. Just be happy it will only show up 1/3 of the time :P

You must have clicked 'Agree' or 'Strongly Agree' when you answered 'A lot of what's wrong with youth today could be fixed by a year's military service.'

Ah... it was one of those initial survey thingies was it? It's just an amusing contrast that I've got compulsory service yet no military I suppose. It's a craxy world :)

If it really was New Years day I joined I don't think I was in any state to remember what the inital questions were... thanks for the reminder folks :)
