Regional Population

Not entirely certain if this has been asked...

Is there any technical restrictions that would prevent placing a "Regional Population" number on each regions page. I'm always interested in how my region compares to others not in terms of nations included, but population (and therefore age) of those nations.

Just a thought.

Its not so much that it can't be added I think its just not a feature of the game. I'm not sure though because I'm not very up to date on the programming behind this game.

If you want it to be continuous, the server load would be horrendous. If you want it accurate as of the last daily update, it might be possible.

My $0.02: this would be really neat. I'm all for it.

I certainly wasn't thinking continous. I was thinking that it would be updated daily with the national populations. With all the GDP and defense calculators, would it really be that hard to create a program inside or outside of the game that could look at a region, and add up the current populations of all the nations?

As you can tell from the above statement, I am marginally proficient at using a computer, but no more than that.

Good idea. Perhaps a UN ranking for regions would be a nifty treat as well.

The one problem I have with that is that it might function as a reward for putting insane numbers of puppets in one region together. You don't want to see certain puppet masters here going into competitive puppet creation mode...

Yes, it would be possible, and fairly easy. I might take a look at it sometime when I'm feeling less unwell

Minor/Major correction, depending on how you look at it. Would be simple and easy for small regions. Big regions (if I recall correctly from the last time I looked at this) don't have all their nations listed in the XML feed. Which means that to sum populations from a client side would involve masses of trawling through the html output and recursively moving through pages of nations. A mess, in other words.

I think any realistic thing would have to be server side, unless [violet] enhances the XML feeds (something it said it was going to do, but never elaborated on with regard to how exactly)

Hey alright, this sounds like a good idea! I'm not too sure about the UN rankings because, as Ballotonia said, it would just make the regions with large amounts of puppets become competive. The only way I can think of solving it would be to just look at the nations in the UN, but not all nations are in the UN.

I do like the total region population, though. :D
