Why the change in the Search link?
Now you cannot search by thread name. That was a very usefull link in narrowing down the search fields.

because it ate up forum bandwith? You guys should read the News page more often.
Sorry but I don't usually read the News page. The few times I have I found it to be either just plain boring or non-informative. If that makes me stupid then so be it.

[smug self superiority]I read the News page almost daily.[/smug self superiority]
If it was an issue with bandwidth use, maybe they could eliminate the News page and save more that way.
Couldn't news just be posted in a general forum sticky of some kind anyway?

It's CPU load from the database which runs the forums.
(as I understand it) The database that the search by keyword thing uses takes a whole lot of cpu/hardrive access load to keep up to date. It also ends up being quite large (in terms of HDD space taken up). By disabling the keyword search, they free up all the extra load on the HDD and CPU to do other forum things.
Aw shoot...now I wouldn't know when someone is talking about me! I used that thing to find all the posts where folks mentioned my name or other people's names. :tantrum: :tantrum: :tantrum:

James "Kibo" Parry was already doing just that on Usenet a long time ago, and became famous for it. He simply grepped through an entire newsfeed to find 'kibo', and made a point of responding to all occurences. Eventually he did ignore all hits on 'skiboot', as that was getting a tad overdone.
