Well, not really.

I don't want the General freaks invading the real RP forums, but I do have a suggestion.

The Search function keeps a massive database of all the posts and every word in them, excluding certain extremely common words, right?

The size of this database is one of the major problems with the forum speed, correct?

So could we not just remove General from the Search Database, and perhaps some of the other, lesser used, forums (JenGov, for example) to decrease the size of the Database?

Just an idea.

This sounds like a very good idea. But I think that off-site forums need to be created when these.... people(if they can be called that) so that they can go and type up pointless posts for 18 hours about the political impact of the First Romulan and Federation wear in Star Wars on Cheese Imports to the Slugpeople of Sloackoviak 18 which is ruled by the BeingwhoslighltyresemblesMothra, or somethign crazy crap like that. Sure we can keep General, but we need to limit General as much as possible. I don't want those... things running about the NationStates forum.

I'd be for the complete removal of General. It adds nothing to the site, and serves only as a place for spammers to get 10,000 posts in a month and for all the other socially retarded morons to flame eachother.
It would certainly give the mods more time to concentrate on the more important areas.

Please take a look at Nationstates forum. This is by far the biggest forum, and with II, is perhaps a waste of space. At least general is unique and there isn't another forum like it.

Don't just pick on general because you value 'fake' things over real life discussion. Many of you RPers post huge amounts and much of it is useless, and once the thread has died, can be thrown away. Perhaps if the mods cut down NS and II the site would go faster.

Actually General is just a collection of the type of whacked out threads you can find all over Usenet, and as for RPers clogging up the forums...well, I kinda thought that was the idea of forums attached to an RP game.

Well, you certainely don't need two RP threads. You might as well get rid of NS or II as they both serve the same function - both are role play forums.

Just for facts - total number of posts in NS and II (combined as they are both th same effectively) is 870,819.

Total number of posts in General - 383,961.

But it can all be done in the same forum. I see loads of war threads in NS and loads of non-war threads in II. Where's the difference between the two?

No, it isn't. NS does include OOC stuff. Basically, all talk about NS is supposed to be in the NationStates forum as well.

I still maintain the fact that either NS or II doesn't need to be here. We only need one of these forums.

A board is just a few kb of code in the forum. General is a good GB or so of utter crap.

Well, I would say that at least half of NS could be got rid of. Some of that stuff has not been seen for months. Do we really need that laying around?

NS and II need to remain separate. Already NS has too quick of a post rate for my liking; threads tend to dissapear onto the second page within a minute of their bumping to the top during peak times.

The main argument against general is that it is not really part of NS the game, but more like a free-speach/talk-about-anything-including-your-idiot-coworker-the-kitchen-sink-and-probably-STvsSW forum. There is no real need for it in the NS forum/RP structure.

OOC threads can go in NS, but they need something to tye them to a RP. Like AMF's OOC post about his writer's block.

Yes we do. Quite often it is necessary to go back to a previous post to remember what someone's nation leader is called, or to go back and check just how how much they spend on their military.

Ok, sorry, but this discussion is really pretty pointless and is clogging up a forum that no one has argued should be eliminated, so I'm locking this.

My 2cents. NS and II (whether the should be separate or not) are part of NS. General is like a pub next door where people can chat about anything.
