Search No More

As part of our ongoing quest to keep the forums in some kind of reasonable shape, the keyword search facility has been disabled. Hopefully this is temporary.

You can still search for forum posts by author name.

Yep. Just searched for something. First time typed some queries in, search successful. when I came back, the box is just magically gone. Refreshed, still gone. Oh well.

It's not like you didn't have warning, [Violet] has been talking about this since that disasterous down(up?)grade.

As per the News, this will hopefully be only temporary. I'm exploring new hosting options for the forum as we speak. (I mean, as we type.)

Have you deleted the search database as well?
We did that on the Europe forum and it cut the database size in half.

Yeah, I do that every few weeks. It does fill up fast.

I've also just cleaned out all the 90+ day old posts, so the forums should now be running better than they have in a while.

Whoa, Technical just lost 200 pages

Just out of interest... how big is the database?
It must be several GB... :?

Probably not over 10gb, everything's encoded in text for the most part, and the older threads form jul or apr were purged unless recesitated. But the forums seem to be running fairly well.

Actually, one other point under the hope that violet checks this thread again; Could you give us a day or two warning before a purge? Some of us have lost important threads such as technology-announcments, RPs, purchase orders, etc. that we would like the chance to save w/o bumping it every week.
