I get this message whenever I try to look at the issues affecting my country:

Forbidden: You don't have permission to access / on this server

I can click on all the other links on my country fine (telegrams, etc.) but when I click on "You have X outstanding issues," it dies.

I'm not sure what would be causing this.

Is your web browser set to accept cookies from NationStates.net?

Yes, everything else works fine. I log in fine. I get my telegrams fine. I can view my region fine.

I thought the link merely pointed that frame to "/" instead of the issues page, and, of course, I don't have root access, but it works in netscape, I just found out, just not in Opera.

But it just started doing it this morning. Before, I always looked at it with Opera and it worked just fine.

You could try clearing your cookies, then trying again. This is a weird error. :?

Looks more like a glitch to me, or somebody is really blocked by the mods. Can be that the player in question is banned.

When it happens on the forums it is due to a mod deleting a thread that one is ting to reply to, or that you are trying to quote a post that has been deleted.

No clue about the main game though.

Hmm, you say that it only happens with Opera? Can we have any other opera users chime in here?

Using Opera v7.22 Build 3221, I experience no probelms accessing the TG page

What version of Opera are you running, malarkies?

Also, try accessing the telegrams with This Link (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=telegrams) and see if it works

The same thing happened to me yesterday using Internet Explorer, but when I quit and reopened explorer, it worked fine. I don't know what causes it, though.

Got it working now. I turned on "3rd party cookies" and it started working again. Odd. (Although I don't know why that would be required, expecially as they aren't used in telegrams.) Weird.

And yes, Phebos, the telegrams still work with your link, even without 3rd party cookies. I just know I have Opera Vers. 7, I don't know what subversion. It doesn't say anything about it in my properties other than Opera version 7.

That is very strange. It sounds like you're getting a 403 browser error, generated when you try to access private content on a web server. That's not something you should ever encounter when clicking links in NationStates.

It shouldn't have anything to do with 3rd-party cookies, either -- NationStates doesn't use any of those. All the cookies you'll pick up on this site come from the nationstates.net server only.

And there are no special cookies generated or checked when you visit your Issues page, either. If you were going to run into cookie trouble, it'd be when you first logged in.

Puzzling! :?

also, the problem isn't "fixed" with 3rd party cookies. It just works somewhat better now.

By that I mean: when I click on issues, it opens up another navigaiton frame inside the current one, pauses for ten seconds or so with the frame inside a frame, and then takes away both frames and gives me my issues fullscreen, in a separate browser window.

It could have something to do with the fact that I disabled popups in Opera recently. (I had disabled them alonmg with 3rd party cookies last week, and am now somewhat regretting it.)

But it never does anything wrong for telegrams. I would think they use the same procedure.

The only thing I can figure is that it's trying to re-log me in through the homepage each time, instead of a standard cookie check. That would explain the "/", the 3rd party cookies, and the second navigation bar, I think.

This makes absolutely no sense. You are correct, viewing issues is similar to viewing telegrams. I'll think on this.

I find that something similar (same behavior with the frames, but the page opens fullscreen in the same tab) happens if I leave the window idle for too long and get logged out, then click on a link. I've never had any problems with any pages or links on this site under normal conditions though.

I'm using Opera Version 7.01 Build 2651, with popups set to "requested only" (which I find is a much better setting than the others).

Yes, that does happen if you idle for 30 minutes or more. You're automatically logged out and the full page is regenerated. But that doesn't explain what's happening to The Malarkies...

I wouldn't think popups would have anything to do with it.

Can you confirm you're getting a 403 browser error? Try opening the Issues link in a new browser or tab and report what the title & URL say.

Reinstall! That usually works.

Ah! That's it!

If I have "delete new cookies on close" turned on, it tosses my cookies when I close between tabs (browser windows) to switch between them, then it tries to re-log me on through the mainpage when I go back.

When it tries to log me on by opening the main frame inside the other frame, it thinks it's another website, and denies these new cookies thinking they're 3rd party, or allows them in a frame-within-a-frame.

So I just have to not close any tabs when looking at nation-states.

Thank y'all very much! Much obliged!

Wonderful. At least this has been figured out.
