I am ranked quite low on the worlds most beautiful environment while the poor (communist-like) nations are ranked very high. This doesn't make sense! Of course in my nation we mine Uranium and trees are being bulldozed but then again we do give money to the Environment. Relatively we might give little money to the environment but in absolute numbers even more than those green communist nations, also as we are much richer, our industry will (probably) be developed very effectively causing little pollution and thanks to advanced technologies richer nations we be able to find out exactly where to mine for resources while poorer nations might bulldoze a forest for nothing. In poor countries, however, you mostly have factories which are highly polluting because the government and the nation can't spend to much money to stop pollution their economy is very ineffective causing much more damage to the Environment than the richer nations cause. Such things will make the environment in poor nations looking much worse than in the richer nations.
1. Being a communist nation does not imply that you are poor. It simply means that individual wealth is not allowed to acrue. A perfect communist system should ultimately be more efficient than a capitalist one, because it removes redundant systems and matches supply to meet demand.
2. In NS, it is perfectly possible to run a 'poor' country, as you put it, without harming the envirnment. Factories are not an automatic product of an underdeveloped economy.
3. A communist government (assuming planned economic system rather than laissez faire) is far more likely to have a good environment, because in a laissez faire system the effect to which government can effect control over enterprise is limited, whereas under a planned system such factors can be accounted for
4. This is not a perfect simulation of RW. The reason it displays like this is because the envirnomental stats are principally derived from such issues as 'Uranium under rainforest' and 'Gold found in bottom of lake'. Choosing the environmental option on these does quite serious damage to your economy. If you continually do this, as you must to reach the top of the UN lists, then you're unlikely to have a powerful economy
