PROPOSAL PROBLEM

26-11-2003, 17:43
We and many other nations have noticed a problem with the proposal system. Many excellent proposals are being overlooked because there are just so many out there (over 90 currently).

My proposal will decrease the votes needed for a proposal to pass from 6% to 5.5%. That mere ½ percent will make it so only about 115 votes are needed as opposed to the current 125 which is nearly impossible for even the peak proposals to achieve.

This decrease will help the top-rate proposals receive an extra little push which compensates for all the nations who decided not to read all of the proposals because there are so many out there. Even though it is a decrease, it will never allow for horrible and half-thought-out proposals to be voted on.

Every nation deserves there chance to be heard.

We did have 3 proposals in the queue to be voted on not that long ago. Although I agree that some good ones get skipped over because they don't quite make it. *yes*

Instead of lowering the % of delegates required to endorse a proposal, how about just making it easier to see the proposals. There currently 21 pages of proposals. Getting through them in any timely manner is quite daunting. Why not have a summary page showing the name of the proposal, the category, the strength, and the authors nation. At least you could get the gist of the matter at hand. Have a page for each day the proposal is due to expire.

And, while we're at it, how about an impact statement for each proposal? UN categories consist of civil rights, economy, and political freedoms. Instead of the vague "strength", how about an idea of the impact on each one of the UN categories that will result from passage of the proposal?

I like what Rixtex is saying, its unbelievable to try to sort through all the proposals.
