NationStates is experiencing server trouble
NationStates appears to be having server difficulty. Sorry for the inconvenience.

If you would like to notify admin, write to admin@nationstates.net. This is probably not necessary, though, since we have tens of thousands of users -- if you don't, someone else will.

Upgrade? Anniversary Celebration cracked the server?

Heh...

There's a few possibilities...

I'm leaning towards server crash though out of personal preference, as the other two aren't that appealing...

Yep, server's crashed and then not restarted properly I'll bet.

I'm wondering whether to draw a link between Salusa's 'Makeover' and the server troubles...

Or is that one of your other two?

Heh, only if we weren't invited to the real party...I mean it would have to be good to cause a server crash.

So, that means we all go out and make new nations immediately, right?
Just kidding!

Yup, I had to do a fourm login to get on at all.

I still have the nation I made last time it crashed. Can't beat those good ol' buggy nations 8)

Yes...

The third being [violet] finally decided to rm -rf /nationstates. ;)
Phoebos

Well, you can reduce those options to 2 now, at least

Although the rm -rf isn't promising

Actually, that would me rm - rf /cgi-bin which is where all the game data is stored

It's probably more like /home/nationstates/cgi-bin or /usr/apache/cgi-bin. :P

But everything might be stored under /nationstates

Although, technically, I would have thought it would be rm -fr ./nationstates

Nope. I meant /nationstates. ;)

Even worse would have been rm -rf /, hehehe...

Forum's probably on a seperate server, given it hasn't gone down...

Peng: You think NS is stored directly under root?

lol... what really flipped me out is I logged into it, went back to the forum, posted, clicked the back button to NS and encountered the error message again.

Luckily it worked on the second try...

This just proves how sadly addicted we all are... lol
Pope Hope

Yes, it didn't work for me at first and I began to suspect Unfree of being in on the party the rest of us weren't invited to. Hehe. Then, three excrutiatingly long seconds later, there is was. "Aaaaaaahh!"

Good to see Unfree and NuMetal here tonight worrying as well, even if I did think Unfree may have spilt the champagne on Max' keyboard. :P

It may very well be.

Is it just me, or are the forums now moving tediously slowly? The game is back up but not what I'd call in optimal conditions :?

Anywhere else I go, once the problem's done with it's either "So, how 'nout them Steelers?" or Buckeyes, and everything's back to business as usual. Here, it's "So, how 'bout them hamsters*?" back to business as usual, but at least here we recognize that it's just an excuse to bitch with relief.

*I always imagine the servers powered by cute little hamsters running on wheels. Gives it an excuse to be sluggish and lazy, and gives me a chuckle to imagine rodents dead from exhaustion needing to be cleaned up and replaced to fix a server outage.

Forums seem to be working fine... right now, anyway. Oh well.

Not sure yet what caused the crash -- whole server went down though. I'm awaiting an e-mail from our server host saying that $#!@ UPS died again.

You guys absolutely hammered the server as soon as it came up, too!

No way, I'm actually relieved now. I moved into Alcatraz to post a brief message right before the crash and am very appreciative the problem was solved so soon. "Stranded in Alcatraz...One Brave Girl's Story." Featured on the 6 o'clock news.

*Sigh of relief* I'm home now!

Thanks for the quick fix. Hope it all gets worked out soon.

I signed up to get 2 issues a day but I only get one issue a day, also I dealt with an issue for the second time in the life of my nation is that supposed to happen?
15-11-2003, 02:11
Repeating issues are normal. However with the getting only one issue a day when it's set to receive two seems to be a recently widespread problem, one that I'm getting as well.
