Population Augmentation
how does this work? i'm pretty sure it's something like 5 million per issue, and 1 million per day. can someone please clarify?
It's slightly random. You should get about 200M after a month, so go figure the rest out ;)
Also, it is in no way related to issues (except that you get your issues and your population at the same itme...but it doesn't decrease in growth if you don't get issues).

The popualtion is still bugged. Nations do increase at slightly different rates and the population bug is still out there :tantrum:

can someone send the bug to me a my population will go up:) :) :)
The bug is fairly rare now. You cannae send it either.
Can someone describe the population bug? I've been dabbling in NS for a while purely solo now, and don't know if my current population is "normal" or not?
Thanks
Seems about right to me. :)

The population bug is, or was, a glitch in the game that woulda rapidly increase your nations population. Your not old enough, but I'm pretty sure The Bisons, and Klamath, along with others, got the population bug for a little time. I think their population went up by a few hundred million in that week.
It's not really around anymore, thanks to [violet]s pure skill at fixing stuff bugs and glitches.

They're supposed to increase as slightly different rates. I think it's done by probabilities (all between 0 and 1, as opposed to random numbers which are >0...)...
IIRC, the pop bug isn't really a bug, just an unusual quirk, heh...

I prefere "random feature". If its no longer out there I think violet better set populations back to what they should be because there are some impossibliy large nations out there...

Is population influenced at all by things such as refugee intake or death rate (or birth rate for that matter)?

I don't believe it is affect by issues at all.

Ditto...
I think it's basically a random number/% generated on creation...
Have to wait for [violet] to clarify this one though I'm afraid, hehehe...

Population is determined by how long your nation has existed. There's a small degree of randomness. Your decisions in response to Daily Issues do not affect population.
I actually think I've managed to kill the population bug, in the sense that no nations are getting increased rates of population growth any more. There are, however, nations out there that have benefited from the pop. bug in the past, and so have larger populations than they should.
The official position on this is that those populations will be corrected downwards (sometime).
Wasn't the pop bug caused by nations being 'counted' more than once by the game during the updates? They'd get double or triple the number of issues as well as the population increase.

There certainly was a bug whereby nations would get double/triple the number of issues (I rememeber COKEKILA explaining that he got something like 6 issues per day), and I'm reasonably sure that this was a symptom of the pop bug - since the nation would be counted multiple times and get multiple issues and population increases. One of the solutions to bits of the bug was to curtail some of what we mods can do in relation to regions - I think the rule is that "thou shalt not rename regions" or something like that, though it's a while since I've needed to.

How long does it take (from creation) to get a population of 500M?
Lemme see...2 bil is 12 months, 1 bil is 6, 0.5 bil should be 3 months. Of course, that assumes an absolutely static progression.

It takes between 77 and 102 days to reach a population of 500 million.
(The first 14 days of a nation's life bring its population up to 62 million. Each day after that, the population increases by 5, 6, or 7 million. To calculate the number of days needed to reach a population level, you can use the formula:
Minimum time = [ (P - 62) / 7 ] + 14 (rounded up)
Maximum time = [ (P - 62) / 5 ] + 14 (rounded up)
where P is the desired population.)

So if my calculations are correct (unlikely), I should expect to reach 500M between 26 nov and 21 dec.

Theoretically, yes. ;)
In reality, the amount that your nation has grown in the past affects how fast you can actually achieve 500 million, so it will take between 26 and 36 more days to get to the population (between...ummm...10 Dec and 20 Dec).

I got the pop bug for three days in July, and then they caught it and I was scaled back. Getting four issues a day was fun though.
