Industries Question

13-11-2003, 02:07
This may be addressed somewhere, but I can't find it, and I'd like to know before I play for too long:

Are the industries your nation starts with permanent? I'm trying to build myself a glorious, dignified utopia, and my leading industries are Gambling, Furniture Restoration and Pizza Delivery. Will these never change?

They're not permanent. The way you react to issues will alter them. For example, banning gambling will pretty much kill your gambling industry

Hm. I figured as much. But, I mean, it's kinda hard to ban furniture resotration. Would that ever change?

I'm assuming that industries like that respond in general to decisions you make regarding the economy. However, this is simply a hypothesis. I'd be interested to hear a description of how exactly the industry stats are calculated

OOC: What am I saying! I'm too used to rping, no need to say OOC here...

Anyway, your industries are probaby (I don't know for sure, but am pretty certain) all affected by some issue or another. The connection may not be direct...heck, in most people minds, the two may not even be indirectly connected, but I'm sure in some way, small or big, every industry is connected to an issue.

And if not, he's probably right. If your economy is a certain level, maybe you automatically get an automatic industry. Hope this helps in some way.

Industries based on economy: I don't think so. A friend and I started at the same time; his economy "good" and mine "thriving." He got Information Technologies and Automobile Manufacturing. I got stuck with Pizza delivery.

Good Point..
but then again, isn't that kind of true? Look at the US vs. a random good economical nation...say spain. Spain probably has some nice big industries. But on the other hand, the US has pizza delivery...think about it.

On a second note though, US economy ain't that great right now anyway...

Actually, I think that there are several industries that are entirely not connected to issues, except in the sense that boosting the economy in general will give them the most minute boost possible. I also think that your starting industry levels are fairly randomly determined (which ones become major industries, for example). however, since most of the "joke industries" can't be boosted very much, just start off boosting more interesting ones like Information Tech and Automobile Manufacturing untill you have those as major industries instead.

Yep. Also increasing the economy in general will change what your leading (or black market) industry is. It could change from Pizza delivey to something worse cheese exports though if you don't favour a specific industry using the specific issues ie endorsing Gambling, donating money to the automobile industry, fixing the RL1 virus etc.
