Avatars
Would it be possible to have the national flag as an avatar?
I don't think the forum could take the extra load :(
It already takes about 10 seconds to load a forum page when it's busy -- and I'm on cable modem.
What I was going to say, if the forum hadn't been in down mode. Which I think makes the point fairly well.
It wouldn't be as much strain as offsite avatars (or extra uploading), but another thing for the forum to have to do is one thing too many. As it is, [violet] is talking about cutting bits out

Hmm, a mod usually posts on a thread like this by now, explaining why it is not feasable, or it can be done but there isn't enough time.

I kinda like it without avatars, although it would possibly be easier for the mds to find those with goats flags and swastica flags.

I think that *if* the admin decides to allow avatars(which they will not so why am I discussing this) then we should require that the flags be custom flags. Otherwise all of the default and American flags would cover half of the forum.

My new forum (http://www.abelmore.com/phpBB2/index.php) has only got 4 members and with Aviators on each one adds up to about 150 KB. If you times that by 20,000 you get a hell of a lot of extra space needed.

I don't think its a size issue as much as a load issue. We already have all the flags uploaded to the server, but it would kill the forums moreso to make them avatars as well as flags (although I wouldn't mind seeing my flag..

... so much). It'd also mean stricter enforcement of the 107x71, I'd bet (to bad for some people *coughloopcough*, all MY flags meet the reqs :P).
Everything posted here is correct, WeekendLazyness. However, suprised no one offered the altenrative to you. Can imbed images at the bottom of all your posts, like a signature. It takes a few seconds for you to do so, but you do sort of get some sort of image in the forum with your posts.
What you do to insert an image www.image.com
This will give you something like

I once had the same idea, then I realized that they would migrate, en masse, to NS and II.
So it would be shooting ourselves in the foot to do it.

It's not feasible right now, for reasons of server load, but I won't rule it out. Maybe one day. Or if not, then in NS2. ;)
