Okay, newbie here so bear with me :P

Your population...how does it grow exactly? Do you RP it?

The information on your nation...like the background stuff. Can you change that yourself or does it remain the same?

Actually, your population grow regardless of how many issues you answer. Turns out we get bigger even if we do nothing. :)

How often to you count up your income/military size? Every day, week, month, etc?

Not totally sure what you mean here, but I shall try to answer what I think you're saying.

All settings get updated once a day (for things such as pop and, presumably, the background stats). I don't know the times, because they're American and I can't ever be bothered to convert them back to GMT. Thus, if you're using methods such as the GDP calc to derive your income, it will update every day.

If you're talking about role play, then I think it's largely up to you how recent the data you're roleplaying with is. Your military strength and budget is likely to increase with time (unless you do something to really kill your economy), so failing to use the latest stats isn't likely to draw the wrath of other RPers on you, especially as the differences are likely to be negligible

Just to elaborate on what Phoebos said....

The NationStates game engine does not simulate actual incomes, expenditures, or military sizes. The game engine will keep track of things like tax rates and military spending, but nothing detailed.

Budgets and armed forces are all roleplayed. That is, they're all make believe. However, I believe* that it is common practice to roleplay budgets and military sizes that are consistent with the statistics tracked by the game engine.

* I don't have a lot of experience roleplaying. Could someone clear this up for me? Thanks.
