What if two nations have the same number of endorsements?

If two nations have the same number of endorsements, and they both have the most in the region, then how does nationstates decide who will be delegate?
does it choose alphabetically?

hmm good question, I figure it looks at who is endorsed first.

It is alphabetical, unless the current delegate is in the tie in which case he stays as delegate.

Uh, no it isn't alphabetical.

If the sitting delegate ties with someone, the delegate remains to be the delegate. If there is no delegate, it goes to whomever has been in the region the longest.

Umm, no. If the sitting delegate ties with someone, they remain as delegate. Otherwise, your guess is as good as mine, though I doubt that it is alphabetical (though it is possible).

Yes, that's exactly what I said.

If the delegate has three endorsements, and two other people have three endorsements, then the delegate stays.

If the delegate loses an endorsement, then it goes alphabetically.

I am also certain that it also doesn't go to whomever was in the region the longest.

Yes. I was tired when I first posted it and thus it made little sense. :o

If there isn't already a delegate, there won't be one until someone else endorses one or the other. At least that's how it happened in my past life.

Uhm, Salusa... Didn't you implement it to be in 'earliest last entry' order in cases there is no delegate? That's what you said earlier you did. Let me see if I can find the thread...

EDIT: Thread found, How is the delegate chosen? (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=81346)

Relevant messages from that thread:

Current plans are to change it so that the current delegate keeps the position if their tied for it. However, if the current delegate isn't keeping the position (or there isn't a delegate yet), it's random. Do we have a recommendation for breaking that tie?

Could it be based on the order in the XML feed (regional list of nations)? Basically, whoever was earlier to last enter the region gets 'seniority' would be my suggestion. Even as general tie-breaker, not just when there is no previous delegate.

Actually, through pure chance, I think that's the way it will work. Not by plan though. We should wait and see.

]Thanks to some code from SalusaSecondus, from today you need more endorsements than the current UN Delegate to usurp him/her, not just the same number.

If there's a tie and no current delegate, the nation that has been resident in the region the longest becomes Delegate.

Nope I asked for suggestions, and then promptly realized that all would be way too difficult to implement at the moment (with the exception of trivial stuff like alphabetical order which I didn't want to encourage) so decided to let it be server/system dependant.

That's not what Violet said.

Just edited the relevant texts into my previous message (you responded too quickly for me :) )

I think they would rather the Delegate hopefuls had to fight it out in the gladitorial arena, lol,
