Just curious. I get a page that says "Found" which I must click on to get here...

I'll need more details to figure out what you're talking about (perhaps a screenshot?)

Ok, in the top border of the window it says:
302 Found -- Microsoft Internet Explorer
The screen is completely white, and in large black letters, says:
Found
then beneath, one line:
The document has moved here. (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi)
(Sorry -- this may sound silly but I don't know how to take a screenshot. )
Screenshot:
ON the top line of your keyboard, to the right of the F keys, there's a key with Print Screen on (Possibly SysRq). Hit that to take the screenshot, then go into Microsoft Photoeditor, MSPaint or whatever you use, and Paste it in. Then just save it as a jpg and upload it to some webspace then link here. 8)

Are you accessing the Forum using a bookmark? If so, remove the bookmark and create a new one when you're viewing the Forum Index page.

Nope, typing in Nationstates.net each time.

Ahh, that is very helpful (screenshot isn't needed anymore). What is your OS, and what version of IE are you running? Also, what is the exact URL that you're typing in, and how long ago did this start?

I'm guessing he's using IE <5.0 because by the sound of it, it's not pickng up a redirect/meta refresh...
And obviously Windows; no-one else uses Internet Exploiter... :P

Well, I know where the problem is, it's on your end.
In HTTP (the protocol used to communicate over the internet [yes, it's overly simplified, but the details aren't needed]) a status code is sent along to the browser whenever a request is made. One your probably used to is 404, meaning that the page can't be found. Another common one is 200 (though you'll never see it), which means that the request was successful. The NS server sends 302 when you visit www.nationstates.net/ This is to redirect your browser to the correct page (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi) and should happen automatically. For some reason, your browser isn't doing so.

Well, not sure if this is actually the problem, but you might want to look through the options in Tools>Internet Options> Security>Custom Level and Tools>IO>Advanced to see if anything about redirections is disabled (there also may not be an option, it is just the first place to look that comes to mind when IE does something I don't want it to).

Windows 95, and I think it IS IE 5.
And I am typing into the address box simply the word 'nationstates.net.'
This seemed to start yesterday.
Edit -- ok, so problem solved; it's 'normal' (that is, not someone messing with my computer is some way).
I'll check the options and such; in the meantime, spending an extra sec clicking "here" is no biggie.
Thanks!

You could always book mark this page:
