If you create a topic with a poll, and then edit the first post, the poll disappears. If you then put it back in you have the original options AND what you just typed in.
I should add this to the FAQ!
There is a way to remake the poll with only valid choices (no dupliocates) but you have to lose all the current votes if you do. You just delete the poll (with the 'Delete Poll' check box in the edit screen) and remake it. That simple.
