Yes, you've probably heard it from many by now - a lot of us are terribly terribly disappointed in this. What makes matters worse, is that I just learned moments ago how easy it is to save these files to my own comp. Had I but a little notice ... I could have saved them all. All the ones I was in, or referenced, in a relatively short period of time.
In IE at least, go to save as, select the Web Archive (second on the dropdown menu under file type), and hit save. Easy as that. You'd think I'd feel better about it all, yes? No ... worse. To know I could have had those so easily ... makes me sick.
Now to the proposal. [violet] mentioned a possible archive? That'd be awesome. I wasn't sure looking back if you meant that for present or past all together. One would hope the latter. All the same, if not, and assuming like most folks you have the old stuff still on backup, I'd ask that you consider a temporary forum where we would have a limited time, like say the next week to ten days where we could snag the ones we needed off.
This wouldn't mess with the current forums, nor would any 'bumping' goober them up - something I can only imagine concerned you enough to keep the purge quiet from everyone, including your mods. At ay rate, I'd think this could be a nice gesture on your part, and a decent compromise on the parts of all. No one would be able to say 'but I didn't have a chance', and everyone would have the opportunity to snag a bag what they needed. We could share info across the ways ourselves after that, and still be able to properly quote, in context, things we needed to. And all the history of this great place and the great players in it would not be utterly flushed.
Just some thoughts. I'm still holding out the brief hope that something can be done to get that back, even on a temporary basis. Too much that a lot of folks relied on is gone. I know a lot of us would appreciate the chance something like this would offer.
[edit: The save as bit I mentioned earlier only seems to work if the file is still online. So much for that idea, back to the copy/paste.]

I'd second this.
I do have the following saved in Word format from pages 1 and 2 of the first Amerigan slave war thread:
Syskeyia to blockade Amerigo
Syskeyia (Thu Feb 06, 2003 10:15 pm): Announcement:
As of right now, the Republic of Syskeyia will be blockading the so-called "People's Republic" of Amerigo.
Right now, 2 Syskeyian Carrier Battle groups have been sent to international waters outside Danger Island. An airbase has been constructed on a nearby deserted island.
All ships leaving Amerigan ports will be inspected by the Syskeyian Navy. Any slaves on board will be set free, to be taken to the Syskeyian port of New Nicea until further arrangements with their native countries can be arranged, if they wish to go there.
Syskeyian fighter jets will patrol the skies above Amerigo. All planes leaving Amerigo will be forced to land at the airbase before heading toward their destination. Refusal to do so will result in being shot down. Again, as with the ships, the planes will be searched to see if slaves are being transported. If this is so, the slaves will be freed and taken to Syskeyia pending further arrangements.
If anyone tries to export slaves via land, be warned that Syskeyia's SR-71s and other recon craft are scanning the skies and that we will send our Blackhawk helicopters (with troops inside) to take your slaves, free them, and take them either back to Syskeyia or to their native country (unless it is Amerigo), whichever is their choice.
All of this is due to the inhuman, satanic, and evil practice of Amerigo of practicing slavery, something which violates the God-given dignity of the human person by treating him as an object of merchandise, a grave violation of the laws of God and man.
Any resistance to this blockade by the Amerigan government will result in an invasion of said country. Already, 200,000 troops are being assembled in case of war with Amerigo.
That is all for now. I hope you understand.
God bless,
Benedict Michael Sukothai
President and First Consul of the Republic of Syskeyia

Tahar Joblis (Fri Feb 07, 2003 6:54 am): Tahar Joblis understands the reasons for the blockade, and continues its embargo on Amerigan beef while asking that its normal traders be "unharassed" by the blockade; Tahar Joblis never has and never will trade in slaves.
Shildonia (Fri Feb 07, 2003 7:38 am): The Peoples Republic of Shildonia fully supports this move, and hopes that this cruel practice will soon be eradicated. To show our support we are willing to send two Nimrod naval reconnaissance aircraft to the airbase to help track potential slave ships. Ordinarily we would send ships as well but due to the current threat of war with Harrisonsveld this is not possible.

Aerigia (Fri Feb 07, 2003 8:27 pm): The Federation of Aerigia provides our full backing for this campaign. Aerigian companies and businessman are now hereby prohibited from conducting business and trade with Amerigo until further notice. All Amerigo assets in Aerigia will now be frozen by the government.
Due to the recent security concerns, we have decided to keep our naval and air forces at home.

Perhaps should let sleeping fantasists lie hmm?
Amerigo (Fri Feb 07, 2003 8:43 pm): Amerigo is outraged by this act of aggression. How dare you violate our land and borders. The slave trade is completely morale as seen in the morals contract. I sincerely hope that you will remove all your military forces surrounding Amerigan land.
Gycer (Fri Feb 07, 2003 8:49 pm): The Principality of Gycer remains neutral in this situation, however, we request that a history of alleged Transgressions be submitted, for it seems that Amerigo has perhaps committed moral crimes, mainly slavery.
Chimaea (Fri Feb 07, 2003 8:51 pm): As said in the other thread...
The Commonwealth of Chimaea, representing the Empire of Baron will support any UN operation to ensure the permanent safety of slaves in Amerigo and to prevent human rights abuse perpetrated there. We shall gladly support Syskeyia in its blockade.
Amerigo (Fri Feb 07, 2003 8:53 pm): HUMANS RIGHTS ABUSE??? HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THE PERCENTAGE OF HOMELESSNESS IN YOUR COUNTRY??? Now are those people's rights not abused? They don't have a home barely have food while slaves from Amerigo do!
Chimaea (Sat Feb 08, 2003 12:16 am): You're accusing us of having homeless people while your economy is boosted by sales of human beings?
I'm not sure where you get your information from, as we have a progressive educational and welfare system in place. Our number of homeless is dropping. Jobs are growing in the military and business areas.
Our people are not under the heel of an oppressor who profits from trampling on their right of freedom.
In your own words, slaves can be mistreated in private. Let's not look at a spade and call it a sun flower, Amerigo.
United Gimps (Sat Feb 08, 2003 12:23 am): The United Gimps believes that this is not a good idea over something as petty as slavery. Let them live as they will, and if society is to fix itself, then it will.

The Water Cooler (Sat Feb 08, 2003 12:37 am): The Water Coolian “fleet” continues to sail, as they pass the so-called restricted zone, a Lieutenant on the Flagship the WCSV-Water Cooler paces somewhat anxiously.
“This is it Commander, any further and we will be in the imposed restricted zone”
“Doubt Lt.?”
“No Sir, its just tha-“
*The lieutenant is cut shot as gunshot fires, the bullet hits and sparks on the deck below his feet*
“I like you Son, so I am not going to kill you. You are discharged.”
“Ensign, send a message out to all ships; Attention all ships, prepare for hostile craft, do not shot first, but defend ourselves. We know our mission so lets do it.”
Shildonia (Sat Feb 08, 2003 12:45 am): The Shildonian Nimrod on patrol sees the Water Coolian fleet pass into the restricted area. A message is quickly relayed to the HQ at the airbase informing them of the violation of the blockade, and requests fighter cover [ooc: these Nimrods aren't to good at the old dog-fighting] in case things start to turn violent.
Chimaea (Sat Feb 08, 2003 12:55 am): A message crackles through on the international hail frequency.
"WCSV-Water Cooler, this is the CCS Intrepid. You are in restricted waters, and are subject to UN jurisdiction. Turn back now or prepare for boarding party. Repeat: turn back now or prepare for boarding party. Intrepid out."

We are here protecting our interest.
We Shall defend ourselves as necessary.
Water Cool out.
Shildonia (Sat Feb 08, 2003 1:13 am):
The Nimrod orbits the area 12,800 metres above the area. "Sir, incoming Telex from the Water Coolerian Fleet". The Communications officer takes the Telex to the Commanding Officer of the aircraft, Captain Tempest.
"Send a reply, saying that this is international airspace and if fired upon we will defend ourselves, then send a message to HQ asking where that fighter cover is"
The Water Cooler (Sat Feb 08, 2003 1:29 am): *the commander reads the message*
“Continue, full speed ahead”
“Yes Sir!”
Shildonia (Sat Feb 08, 2003 1:35 am): "Sir, the fleet seems to be increasing speed, should we fire a warning shot?"
"No Lietenant, it isn't our job to do boardings, we just tell HQ where the potential blockade runners are. However, maybe we could buzz them. Pilot, dive low and fast over the Water Coolerian fleet, it might scare them a bit, especially if we all shout Bang"
"Aye sir, diving low and fast, should I then pull up to 12,800metres?"
"Yes Pilot, Fire Control, prepare countermeasures in case they are needed"
"Aye Sir, Counter Measures ready"
The Water Cooler (Sat Feb 08, 2003 2:03 am): *Buzz of alarm siren*
P.A: ALERT! ALERT! We have been over flown by one craft intent unknown. All positions go to battle stations level two! Repeat all Positions go to battle stations level two!
The Commander rushes on the bridge, to be greeted by red flushing lights, and the din of ensigns taking down information.
“Report!” He ordered calmly.
“The Nimrod just done a run past us, they didn’t fire, it seems they where just alerting us to there presence.”
“Very well, issue this command to the fleet: All units go into closer formation, prepare defense but do not aim, continue to Amerigo at full speed.”
“ETA 10 minutes to the blockade.”
“And so it begins…” The Commander said slowly.
Chimaea (Sat Feb 08, 2003 3:17 am): The Captain of the Intrepid, Calvin St. John, stared at the intercepts of the various communications between blockade supporters and the WC fleet.
His first officer came into the Bridge from doing a final inspection of the ship. "Everything's ready sir. If Water Cooler decides to run the gauntlet we are ready... We form a physical barrier against them as well."
Captain St. John nodded. "Have the weapons systems put online immediately, but do not fire till I give the order, or till they fire directly at a blockade ship."
"Sir!"
The Captain turned back to his readouts. This, he thought, is going to be interesting.
The Brotherhood of Nod (Sat Feb 08, 2003 3:24 am): The Brotherhood fully backs Amerigo and it's right to trade whatever they want. A Nod convoy is en route to Amerigo, and it's heavily protected. We advise anyone encountering the convoy to surrender or die a horrible death.
The Water Cooler (Sat Feb 08, 2003 3:23 pm): “Commander Sir, Enemy fleet sighted, range 3000 meters, your orders Sir?” The Captain of the watch shout out eagerly.
“Continue to a range of 1000 meters and come to a full stop, order the fleet to deploy full Water Cooler regalia. Put the ball into their court so to speak.”
“Yes Sir!”
The ships continue at full speed to the come with in the designated range, then the stop waiting to see what happened next.

Shildonia (Sat Feb 08, 2003 3:50 pm): [ooc: There aren't actually any Shildonian ships in the area, just a couple of submarines who are submerged and generally hidden. Other countries have ships in the area though, but the only Shildonian units in the area that you know of are the Nimrods]

Aerigia (Sat Feb 08, 2003 3:59 pm): ---Meanwhile, onboard the Krok class nuclear powered battlecruiser:AES Adamant, some 100 nautical miles away ----
"Captain, there is a group of ship closing in, in the northeast sector of the blockade, near the Shildonians"
"ID's, seaman!"
"They appear to be the Water Coolian fleet sir, a Shildonian Nimrod has done a fly-by, and they still haven't stopped. Our CAP NF-10 aircraft are now vectored to the area."
"Roger that, have them circle above the area, but do not fire. Launch our ALERT 5 plane and prepare the ASW backups. Skipper, let them know of our presence and ask for their purpose." The Captain replied.
All Channels:
"This is the AES Adamant, Krok class battlecruiser of the Federation of Aerigia. Identify yourselves and state your purpose in these waters. You are within the range of our anti-ship missiles. Make no sudden, aggresive moves or you will be fired upon. "
The Water Cooler (Sat Feb 08, 2003 4:10 pm): *Telex to the Aerigian forces*

“Ensign activate anti missile defenses, and move to battle stations level one. Deploy the helicopters, to form a further defensive perimeter around our ships, than batten down the hatches.” The Commander said briskly
“Yes Sir!”
Meanwhile, at a ship near the rear 5 Aegis type helicopters where launched. Once launched they set about establishing a patrol around the Water Coolian fleet.
The helicopters are equipped with the normal array or weapons, plus an untested anti-missile system.
Aerigia (Sat Feb 08, 2003 4:47 pm): -------Essex Command Ship AES Clarkson-----
"So this is it, hunh? Upgrade to Alert Level Orange. Send a message to the admiralty, urgent. Again, no firing." The carrier group officer said.
"All personnel to battle stations. Non-essential personnel retire to quarters. The battle group has been threatened by a foreign craft."
As the word is made, the crew at the battlecruiser and the destoryers ran for their supersonic anti-ship missile controls, as well as manning their surface to air missile launchers.
Meanwhile the aircraft carrier AES St.Thomas launched 3 more F-10 multi-role fighter aircraft, armed with air to air missiles. Several CSP-2000 aircraft, carrying anti-ship missiles and torpedoes, also took off from the steam catapults.
The Water Cooler (Sat Feb 08, 2003 5:13 pm): Seemingly from no where the Water Coolian national anthem burst out, the haunting beautifully medley made the scene seem even more several.
The sound was been produced by an ultra high-powered directional speaker system (Ultra-Bose-2280).
Suddenly with out warning the water Coolian fleet burst into movement slowly cutting the distance between them and the blockade.
ON the WCSV-Water Cooler, the Commander said this quietly to a lieutenant.
“Send a last message, tell them that this is their chance to stand down. Also tell them that there still is chance for peace, we shall harbor no antipathy if they stand down NOW!”
“Yes Sir!”
And then there was silence, as the crescendo of the anthem faded.

Ineptia (Sat Feb 08, 2003 5:28 pm): In the office of Felix Munchmeister, Ineptian Prime Minister
"So now Aerigia is involved, eh? That means this Amerigo slagve conflict could embroil the entire Heartland region." Felix shook his head slowly, the anger building.
"Why couldn't those damn officials in Syskeyia have minded their own business? We could have bought the entire remaining slave population of Amerigo, and would have had them safely back to Schtoopstadt by now, ready for their new lives as free Heartland citizens. And where did Amerigo get the foolish idea that Syskeyia was our ally? They just thwarted our entire plan...."
The generals in attendance stepped forward, almost as a unit. "Now that Aerigia's involved and matters are escalating, should the Ineptian military establish a presence off of Amerigo?" one of them asked.
Felix thought about it carefully, then sighed.
"No. For the time being, Ineptia is going to stay out of it. I will keep in contact with President Yang to see if Aerigia wants our help, but unless they ask for our help, I think this whole matter has escalated far enough."
The generals left his office, and Felix was left alone to ponder this latest potential threat to the stability and well-being of The Heartland region.
Amerigo (Sat Feb 08, 2003 5:37 pm): SAM sites are standing ready. Artillery has been placed on every coast of the island. The Amerigan Air Force is on Stage 10 alert. The Amerigan Navy is on high alert in Amerigan Ports. Amerigan soldiers can barely sleep with the anxiety in the air. All forces are standing ready in case of invasion.
Anti-slavery nations withdraw. Do not bring war to the world. Stay out of this conflict. Let us all hope that this conflict does not escalate to war.

The BlackWolf Order (Sat Feb 08, 2003 5:48 pm): BW Independent News Network-
The renewed Navy of the Order's first true military vessel, the Skimmer-class Cruiser Artemis, the final iteration of the redesign of the Ink-class vessel sent by Tahar Joblis, was launched today. In the neighboring construction slips were simultaniously launched the new SeaWolf-class ships Swordfish, Rapier, Manta, Sharkbane and Falcion, the derivitives of the Tahar Joblis Navy's H-Boats. Also announced was the planning of a new superbattleship, utilizing designs that were previously only dreams of ship designers, before the joint development venture with TJ Engineers. The new ship class, the Karhaa-Class are yet undetermined in size and armament, but speculation ranges into the thousands of tons, while armament is still in the air.
The newly launched 1st Expedition Group of the Order's first assignment is to join the Blockade of Amerigo, not for the purpose of assisting in the blockade, insomuch as the purpose of observing Naval tactics. The 1st Expedition will, however, provide support when necssary. Also aboard the ships are the 101st Marines, which will provide support to augment the ship crews as necessary.
Allied Anime Worlds (Sat Feb 08, 2003 5:53 pm): Syskeyia:
You have not yet indicated whether or not you wish the assistance of the Federation of Allied Anime Worlds. Turkmanistan (Sat Feb 08, 2003 5:56 pm): The Rogue Nation of Turkmanistan declares its support for all nations wishing to make free use of their human resources in whatever manner they see fit. Interference into our way of life will not be tolerated.
The Maximum Leader extends the offer of military support to Amerigo. We are not a strong nation, but can deploy our elite Shock Regiment to assist in unconventional operations during your defense.
The Water Cooler (Sat Feb 08, 2003 5:58 pm): “Commander the Amerigo forces are stepping up!” Said the Captain of the watch.
“Hmmm…Send a message to them asking if the plan to do anything about this blockade, and get an ETA on those brotherhood of Nod forces. "
“Yes Sir.”
As this Water Cooler fleet moves closer to the blockade a deadly silence draws, even the sea gulls and waves are quite, all that can be heard are the din of the engines.
Ineptia (Sat Feb 08, 2003 6:12 pm): Official Communique
From: Office of Felix Munchmeister, Prime Minister
To: Government of Amerigo
The Grand Duchy of Ineptia renews its bid to purchase all of your remaining slaves at the price of $10 per person. We are not allies of Syskeya and we are prepared to break through their blockade if you will agree to our offer and allow our ships to transport your remaining slaves to Ineptia and The Heartland.
To all nations involved in the blockade and resulting conflict: PLEASE stand aside if Amerigo agrees to our offer so that Ineptian vessels can start the process of rescuing the purchased slaves and transporting them safely back here to The Heartland. Your aims are laudable, but you are putting the lives of the remaining Amerigo slaves at great risk, and sales of slaves continue.
Allow us to end this conflict peacefully, or, if you intend to fight Amerigo anyway, allow us to remove the slaves from harm's way before you proceed.
Felix Munchmeister
The Water Cooler (Sat Feb 08, 2003 6:19 pm): I urge the Government of Amerigo not to even consider this.
It is nothing more then a ruse to make your country weak to their attack.
