Disappearing Old Topics
Some old topics seem to have disappeared, noticably, the first 3 World Cups.... which is a real shame. Is there anyway we could get them back, at least for a small period of time so that we can record them for posterity?

They're probably still there, just not on the Searches...
If you posted on them, try and find them in the "View Your Posts" list...

That doesn't work.
If you remember the topic number (/t=#####) or bookmarked it, you might be able to, other than that, you're screwed like a bad monkey.

Actually, it does. For instance, I found the "Marathon's Deletion" thread on an egosearch even though it wouldn't turn up on a standard search.

Keyword searches get purged every so often, but author searches do not. If you know the author, you'll find it.
EDIT: Damn, they fixed that. At any rate, you can go as far back as April using author search.

Not in the general forum.
I lost a lot of good Philandrea posts on my age poll because of that.

Think about it, everbody who threatens to leave (except for Albion Soviets) eventually stays,
I still have the links, and they were working a while back, but not now....

The author search still works fine (it's a much less server-intensive search than keyword, so I don't purge it), but I do prune the database of old topics every now and again. Anything that hasn't been replied to in 60 days or so is at risk.
If there's a need, we can create a special "Archive" forum for threads we want to save for posterity.

Oh, you had my hopes up for a second, but I guess that my poll "What is Your Age?" has been pruned then right?

Oh, violet I can tell you myself and several others would be EVER so much grateful if something like that archive could be done. I've searched and searched and just can't find those posts. Been going nuts, and I've talked to others who are equally disappointed.
Silly as it may seem to some, a bunch of us really do put some thought and effort into our rp's here, working on writing style, character development, nation background and history, and all manner of things. There is SO much awesome content that's been put here by SO many folks ... it just seems a damn shame to just toss it all aside.
Please, please, please ... if at all possible ... bring all that good stuff back.

60 days????
I still often refer to threads that haven't been posted on since Febuary, for character consistency and suchlike, as well as to introduce new players to the game. (The One Ring War, which seems to have been purged, is still my weapon of choice for answering newbies who ask 'How do we fight' and 'What's the background on the whole Arda vs Elf thing?'). I can't seem to find anything past page 3 of 9 on my 'search for author', which is just infuriating.

Yes, an archive would be nice, for references on events in the past that may be relevant for the present.
As an example: Events in march/ april still have relevance for the present in NS RP, and are in fact important for organisations as well as current 'politics'

I know... I recently looked up a whole lot of links to NS threads for my "world Factbook" entry, and most of them say "The topic or post you requested does not exist," like this one (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5574), which should be the first thread in the Amerigan Slaver Crisis/War. :(
So if possibly, bring them back!!!

I was just gonna get someone to move all the old World Cup threads to the Sports forum, but an Archive forum would work just as well.

That would be excellent if you could do that!
I think the World Cups are something that should definitely be archived.... and I know that there are some other great rp threads that should remain for posterity.
EDIT: Oh, and I've just found out that the only World Cup threads that still exist is the WC4 thread, the WC6 qualifying thread, the WC6 thread, and the WC7 and beyond.... all record of WC5, 3, 2, 1, and any other infor about WC6 and 4 are now gone :( Thank god that I recorded all the scores before the baleetion.... So if you can archive all the World Cups from now on, that would be immensely fantastic!

I'm all in favour of an archive as well. It's just really a shame that all those threads have dissapeared. I still used some of them for reference and it is also good writing...

Aye, but it basically just consists of links to the forum threads -- links that are now inoperative.
