A jolly good idea!

I have notice the ever gaining lack of kindness in these forums. When a newbie asks a question, help him, don't yell and ignore. A while ago, I made a nation and went around asking questions, I made a topic I mean. No one answered and then I made another one asking the same questions and people yelled at me for spamming and I said "What is spam" and they just told me to STFU...

The Idea:
A moderator could use (or make) a puppet and do the same thing to see who is nice and who just curses newbies out. Might be a new tool for selecting (or adding a variable to) new moderators.

Just another though of mine.

I know what you mean, people should just answer questions,if they are asked often so what,if you're new you wouldn't know that it is asked so often.

When I joined I did a smart thing I stayed low watching, learning and doing very little on the forums. That way when I started posting more I would not make a NOOb mistake. Though thats a reason why I have less than 900 posts.

I did the same thing, although I did have RPing abilities before I came to NS. I glanced around for a few hours and learned the ropes quickly.

My first day, I RPed a civil uprising...those were the days....

On my first day I had no idea what a forum was let alone an RP. :) I only started using the forum (irregularly) in early June. I did OK though because I'd read all the stickies and announcements as well as the FAQ before I did anything.

I did the same thing,

Though you have over 6,000 posts

I glanced around for a few hours and learned the ropes quickly.

Oh ok a few hours.

[My first day, I RPed a civil uprising...those were the days....

It used to be a rarity to find bad RPing..now its just the opposite.

No0Bs can be unkind too. I remember when my puppet nation answered questions of n0oBs, they simply ignored me. I have no pity whatsoever
Anyway, I made my sig special for No0Bs. :P

So, does anyone care about my idea or are we going to continue dicussing our first time.

I want Salusa to say: "I'll mention this to [violet]"

That way, I'll know that my idea is on the bottom her list.

I agree with you, though this is not a new problem. Those of us who know, should be nice when talking to those of us who don't.

Yup, my first day I was called a godmodder and I thought that was good. :? You gotta let them learn is all.

I godmodded a thread to hell and back (while pretending to be neutral and not deploying any soldiers), put about a page and a half of spam on 1,ooo,ooo,ooo posts, flamed people on pretty much every political thread I could find, and got Marathon, Sirocco, The SLAGlands, The MOBTIW, Tavril Cross, Nyborg, Alcona and Hubris, and likely other people who did not mention it, quite mad at me within my first week. And I had no idea that I was doing anyting wrong.

Yup TROUSRS, your idea is a good one.

I think that the mods should do it with regularity.

I have personally come to regret all of my actions against n00bs in retrospect though, so I think that the mods should cut September and Late August nations some slack.

Peace, Truth, and Justice,

One thing we all need to remmeber, is we all have bad days. We have all dumb days. Best not to hold these against other players.

Stupid sounding, but you own your reaction. Negativity to a Newb's post refelects directly on you, and not so much just an extension of a dumb question.

I've decided to do as the experts on newbs (Cog and Siro) do.

As you will notice on the creating a reion thread, I am civil despite the newb's overeagerness in which he overlooked the stickies entirely.

I just asked myself "Would I have read the stickies first?" Answer: When I was a n00b I read the FAQ and the Announcements only, and even then, I onld read the annoucements in Tech and General (and the stickies in II after I godmodded a thread into oblivion).

Thanks Ackbar for supporting my ideas and encouraging me to post more of them as I have them.

That sounds a lot like camoflauging speed cameras to me. We aren't here to try to catch people out by provoking them to flame...

Besides, really obnoxious people will make it very clear, very quickly.

Welldone TROUSRS! See you can think of a brilliant idea, and i can only think of stupid ones....

The mods shouldn't be people who uses puppets and chase people around to provoke them to flame. Instead, if new players don't feel comfortable, they can report the harassment. Lima Beens is an example. Someone reported the flamer, Lima Beens-flaming has dropped.

IMO the mods shouldn't waste their time on chasing after people. I'm sure there are bigger problems.

This does not mean that this is a bad idea, but what I'm saying that there's a simple and better alternative to this.

Again, just what I think.

I can see that point. And I don't want a Big Brother system of rule here, despite having my people tattooed with bar codes a long time ago.

More then having something for mods to do that would result in mod action, it would likely be interesting if there were to give this a try. Again, not a trap (ITS A TRAP-- sorry, had to), just a thing to do on a lazy afternoon...
