My pal josifovich and I used "Hey @@NAME@@, move to Liechtenstein with us!" as our mottos to attract members to our region. He is usually on the frist page and at the top so this worked great. Why was that coding taken out of the mottos? It was a good thing to have!

Fun With Macros
In the last day or two quite a few people worked out you could embed little macros like "@@NAME@@" into your nation motto and it would be substituted for the name of whichever nation was looking at you. This is kind of neat, but unfortunately it has the potential for abuse. So it no longer works.

The reasoning here is the same as why the same thing was disabled in Civil HQ Boards and telegrams earlier on. The same macro functionality was also turned off in motto's on the user page, but seems to have been forgotten in the motto listed in the UN Report. That oversight has now been fixed.
