In the last day or two quite a few people worked out you could embed little macros like "@@NAME@@" into your nation motto and it would be substituted for the name of whichever nation was looking at you. This is kind of neat, but unfortunately it has the potential for abuse. So it no longer works.
How come I never find this stuff out until it's been fixed? :(

Bloody hell, I was the first to figure out this still worked in the mottoes, then everyone else does it and they fix it! Arrgh! I attracted over 30 nations to my region in a single day with that... Oh well, can't say I'm upset with [violet] making a game fix, because the new telegram limit of 15 sure has helped me! :D

Why "fix" this? What harm was it causing?

Access to the macros can be used to do damage to the game.
For security reasons, I'm not inclined to elaborate.

My nation "Anti-UN" has had macros in the motto since July. I put them there during the 2-day macros-in-the-messageboards party. People have been asking me how I did it and I've been telling them what I thought was the truth ... that the ability to do that was turned off in July. I never knew that the mods didn't catch the motto thing at the same time as the messageboard thing. Oh well, all fixed now I assume. The only thing is that, unlike the message boards, pre-existing macros in the mottos don't still work. Now I have to actually try to think up a clever motto for anti-un! :)
You can use the macros to alter variables in the game. I think.
