Superb NationStates Browser

Check this out (http://www.rushyo.com/NSBrowser.zip)

Now a zip for virus scanning convenience.

Click 'save as...' and put it wherever you want it.

It's a quick easy way of getting between the various forums, looking at the stats and posts of nations and grabbing images off Google for roleplaying (and getting to my store  )

Good program. I'll like not having to constantly go to the GDP Calculator now.
13-10-2003, 23:05
Sorry about that Mod, wasn't quite sure ^_^
13-10-2003, 23:06
The only thing I don't like is the inability to maximize.
13-10-2003, 23:06
Is this VB?

I don't like 2 things
1. Lack of status bar.
2. Lack of ability to remember passwords

just to be healthily (is that even a word?) suspicious:
how do we know it doesn't steal your password(s)?

I must urge caution about running off-site executable content. You do so at your own risk.

1) This was written in VB6.0 (correct me if I'm wrong).
2) A cursory examination does not reveal any obvious security issues.

THIS IS NOT MEANT AS AN ENDORSEMENT OF THE PROGRAM

Coldorra, feel like sending me the source?

I know you're joking, but I am officially stating that neither I nor NationStates assumes responsibility for any results of using that program.

Hmm... very interesting. Why doesn't the 'New Window' button work?

Anyway... I think I'll switch back to Firebird now...

Suggestion: Your posts (although I guess you could type in your nation name and hit Latest Posts)

Can you please explain what it is, maybe a screen shot or two. I don't like to DL anything without at least a bit of info on what it is ( I see the title, so have an idea, just lookin for more).

Thx.

Got a screen shot for the people who don't run Windoze, to see it?
14-10-2003, 16:54
It's great, but how do I make the screen bigger? I always have to scroll/

I have a 1600x1200 resolution...
14-10-2003, 17:38
Hrm... If I can find a decent Java HTMl renderer, I might make a Java program that can do this (and thus executable on all platforms, not just windows)

It has been taken away by the mods (Didn't fit in a normal screen). Linux computers should be banned anyway

its basically a smaller version of ie/netscape
with buttons for the various NS pages

also allows you to enter the name of a nationstate and click on View Nation or View Stats etc.

In fact, posting from it now...

Yep, this thing is great, means that I don't have to have 57 browsers open at the same time, thanks this is great.

It's just a single .exe, nothing more complex. No install or anything.

Just a couple of suggestions. If they are impossible or anything its ok but:

could you possibly enable the scroll wheel on mouses. Ever since i got a scroll mouse i havent been able to use a normal one

also could you put a version number in it if you plan to update it from time to time

thx :)

This is pretty cool! If SalusaSecondus can OK the code as nasty-free, we'll put it on the News page.

Hmm, well I wasn't thinking about certifying the code, but if [violet] wants me too .. . ok.

This is what I'll do:

Author, please ensure that I have the most up to date copy of the code.
I will check and compile the code.
I will give my compiled version of the code to Author(if our compilations are not bit identical).
We will post a link to the Browser (hosted by Author) and links to and MD5 sig of the binary, my PGP sig of the binary, and my PGP key for verification (all hosted by NS or a moderator).
This will allow anyone with the proper tools to check that the binary posted is the one that I checked.

Of course, all of this is dependant upon [violet] going along with my paranoia. Author, it isn't that I don't trust you, just that it is my job to be paranoid.

Slightly off topic, how do you get a PGP key? Do you have to make up a string to hash it against?

I checked out a few key servers, but none of them actually explain it, hehehe.

First you need to get a PGP program. http://www.pgpi.org should be able to help you. Then, creating a key is different for each program. Then you distribute it to the world and have people who trust you sign it.
