Why can't we use the names of former nations?

Is there a waiting period before we can use the names of ex-nations, or is there some other reason why names that used to be in use but aren't anymore can't be used?

Because moderators have the powers to restore a nation. A nation died of inactivity is not truely dead, and may be brought back at the owner's request any time.

As for DEATed nations...would you want to be called "Marathon"?

Marathon was DEATed in Late July or early August, he won't get the reference.

Or "Klamath", "Magic China", "America inc", or "Sheol"? (Though he won't get those either).

You cannot use the names of ex-nations, in order to prevent

1) Confusion amongst those who knew the nation previously. There are a lot of old nations about, people who have been playing for months, who would notice.

2) Impersonation of a defamatory nature, ie damaging the reputation of a respected ex-nation.

3) Unintentional use of a nation name which had at one time been used by an extremely unpopular player, ie protecting new players.

4) The possibility of the nation name's previous owner being unable to have their nation resurrected, in those cases where it died of inactivity.

And maybe other reasons as well.

just a thought , maybe if people would read instructions, they might not have to create the same topic over and over.http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=45217
