Text: Laws have been enacted to bring the Republic of Spoffin into compliance with the United Nations "" resolution.

What does this mean? Is it related at all to the server glitch?
04-10-2003, 16:12
it means your nation has had new laws instated due to a UN resolution
04-10-2003, 16:12
Normally it means you voted against the current resolution and your nation is being made to follow it because it passed. But I'm not sure if that person is allowed to say that. I don't know.

Well clearly, but the last 2 resolutions were defeated, and theres no quote to tell me what resolution it refers to.
04-10-2003, 16:15
Myself and someone else already created threads on this....but they've disappeared :?

EDIT: Oh, I'm stupid. They're in the UN forum

But I haven't voted against any resolutions that passed, it doesn't say which resolution it refers to, and... well its just plain weird.

This happened to me yesterday, also. I'm a bit confused because I'm also not getting issues. I switched regions to try to resolve the issues problem, so hopefully it will all work out. Why wouldn't it list the resolution title, though?
04-10-2003, 16:34
Hmmm... probably just something related to the crash.

Expect the server to take a day or two to settle down after the crash. It will need a few updates to catch up with itself.

This happened to me too, I made a failed attampet to bring it to the mods, (my bad!) and am waiting fro a reply about it. Could it be something that is realted to the crash? It would make sense, considering the part where the resolution is supposed to be named is gone.

No, when I was in CA and finally got onto the computer I recieved two tms telling me that I had been brought into resolutions which I had not voted on, and despite voting AGAINST the metric resolution I got no CM TM.

I got yer compliance.....RIGHT HERE!

Seriously though, I got this too, but nothing shows any difference in my nation. I think it's just a junk-mail. Or glitch-mail.

There's a nation called Compliance Ministry who's motto is "HA, people actually think I am sending telegrams!" maybe he needs looking at as the source of these telegrams?

That would be some fairly big spamming to spam the whole UN .. plus there is no link, which means it is the actuall Un Compliance Ministry. Plus he's been around for atleast a few months (pop almost 400m), it's unlikely he'd suddenly start spamming during the server crash (my TMs were 12 and 23 hours old)

He could have been hacked but that motto seems rather odd for someone to have the exact same name as this so-called 'Compliance Ministry'
05-10-2003, 06:02
I don't think that these telegrams about the UN passing endless series of quotation marks ("help, we're haemorrhaging punctuation!") actually have any real effect on the nations that receive them. Given that they don't refer to an actual resolution, it would be difficult to code what changes your nation would have in the first place.
For future reference, the nation called Compliance Ministry is only ever going to be responsible for any telegrams you receive with a link in them to view the sending nation. If you've received the same telegram/s I have, there are no links whatsoever in them so it can't be him. Wouldn't surprise me if this nation you're worried about is another joker in the same league as the NationStates Bunny of a few months ago.
Anyone who wants to resign from the UN over this issue is welcome to, but it seems rather thin-skinned to do so.

What happened is we had a server crash (that same damn UPS, if you can believe that... our web host swears they've swapped it this time) and the server didn't come up fully. The UN daily update thus got confused and passed an empty UN Resolution. This caused everybody to get slightly weird telegrams, but didn't actually affect your nation stats.

I am with you. The UN is no place of individualists such as ourselves. These strongarm tactics are not what I signed up for, therefore, the UN shall be without me.
