Yes, we are aware that the server went down at about 12:30 today (or a tad earlier). We are also aware that you are having difficulties logging in. This will be fixed as quickly as possible.

I simply ask from you three things:

1) DON'T email [violet] or Max about this. I'll take care of this and they don't need thousands of additional e-mails in their inboxes.
2) Post ALL discussion about the crash in this thread. Let's keep the other forums clean.
3) And finally, DON'T MAKE ANY NEW NATIONS!!!!!

What's happened to the server this time?

Less than an hour ago, everything just froze. I went out, got some food, came back, read a bit of news, and when I tried again it was up again.

EDIT: What was most worrying was the sense of feeling lost and uncertain. :shock:

Generally the answer to that question means the problem is either resolved or about to be resolved. The current situation could be an exception, but the odds are against it. Either way, there's nothing any player can do other than just wait it out. On the positive side: nothing's happening in the game anyway, so we're not missing anything other than gametime.

Time to read a book! Or the forum. Ok, forum it is :D

If they invaded, and then the server crashed, and it didn't get back until just before the UN update, so you wouldn't have time to kick them all out before they got the delegacy...

One weird thing that I've noticed with crashes:

Goobergunchia can never log in to the forums during a crash. However, Terminated California, which has the same password as Goobergunchia, can. Which is annoying, because Goobergunchia is a much better country than this one....

When the server comes back up, change the password to Goobergunchia, and then change it back to what it was. Then try again at the next server crash :D

Corinthe, he took over Francos Spains position.

I believe that when the server goes down hard (as it appears to have here) it does properly load all of the servers when it reboots. Thus, not all functions are available. I have already put the necessary gears into motion to resume the game. However, the next steps depend upon other people and thus I do not know how quickly the game will be back up.

Yes, this would be my guess. However, please think of the level of access that I'd need to the server to even get a command line? That is much higher that GM access and opens the server up to many vunerabilities.

Now, imagine the level of access I'd need to restart the daemons . . . probably close to root. [violet] doesn't know me that well. I wouldn't trust a random stranger helping me out over the web with root access. I've done the next best thing which is send a message out to everyone with the necessary access level.

It's safe to logout from the forums using that link, because when you click the Forums link on the main page, you'll be logged back in again anyway.

And as Salusa says on the other thread, don't use login.php to change your password, because it'd break your account!

Well, you don't seem like the sort to "rm -rf /"... ;)

And you actually wouldn't need any access over a normal commandline user to restart the daemons. All they'd need to do is provide you with a means of restarting them, such as a shell script (I haven't the knowledge to do it myself though. all they'd need to do is make it executable by everyone, and only read-/writeable by the creator, so it'd hide all the passwords. I haven't done a lot of security work with Linux, though, so I'm not sure if this is practical; I only ever used it for programming in C... :P)

Heh, I know why that's happening... [violet] only did half the restructuring work needed to phpBB to make AOL users able to use the forums... ;) The link is fine, it's the forums. ;)

If you can get a page up that displays your session ID (it'll say sid= and a weird alphanumeric string in part of the URL) copy and paste that after the end of that link, I.E:

all I get is a page that says invalid_session

If at one point I forgot my password and had a new one emailed to me,is there a chance that the forum did not catch on to this? The reason I wonder this is because I forgot NuMetal's pass once and got a new one mailed,and since than I have never been able to log directly into the forum,my other nations which I've never fogotton their passwords for seem to work fine.

Qaaolchoura: I think that forum accounts won't be created for nations which are created now. You can try to login to it if you want. As far as fixing it . . . it is doable, but difficult. We'd need to get [violet] in on it (I think).

Funny that someone mentioned crashers using the outage to their advantage...now I'm sure cunning has nothing to do with it, but a couple of small non-UN nations attempted a crash on my region Nasicournia right before it went. Kind of freaky to wake up, hear you're being crashed, and then find you can't log in! :-P To make it worse, invision just went down for upgrading. So no regional forum either! lol

You can access your,e nation and region by clicking on return to jenifer government at bottom of this page. I managed to access my nation but was not logged onto forum, when I clicked return I found I could post on regional messageboard, view world etc, just waiting on eveeryone else

Normal service seems to have been restored.
