how long does a region live with on one inside??
I'm not sure, but I think it's one day.
As long as that one nation is alive, then the region exists. When that one nation dies, I believe that the region will remain until the next update.

Until 6 am or 6pm ET, I assume that it is set for midnight and noon either Aussie time or GMT, and I am six hours off being in the Eastern Time Zone.

When the last nation within the region has left or died, the region will be deleted at the next UN (ie game for all practical purposes) update, that is to say, in less than 24 hours, unless another nation enters it in time and stays until the UN update takes place. If it then leaves, the clock starts ticking once more . . . but you can recreate regions, unlike nations.

Two UN updates daily.
I recreated Sumatra and The Caucasus when I misspelled the founders' named on both of them by moving all puppets out at 5:30 and back in at 6:00.
