Great forum suggestion.

I just had a wonderful idea. I won't waste your time, here it is:

1: Merge the "NationStates" and "International Incidents" forum.
-Mods rarely intervene in Int. Inc. forum when they are not requested.
-Int. Inc. and NS forums are used for essentially the same things.
-Both NS and Int. Inc. are roleplaying forums, and only one such forum is needed.

2: Change the name of the "NationStates" forum to "Modern RPs".
-You'll see why as I finish my idea.

3: Add two new forums: "Future RPs" and "Past RPs"
-These, coupled with the renamed NS forum, will eliminate the searching that we all must go through to find an RP that matches our own time period (biggest problem for past and future RPers).
-Will reduce the all too common occurance of a player discovering they have started an RP with a nation in a different time period than themselves.

This idea is flexible, but it's a great general layout of a way to once and for all seperate nations that RP in different time periods.

Feedback? Is this a great idea? Am I a total moron for considering it?

Bump! C'mon, this at least warrants some responses!

Personally, I like the fact that NationStates and International Incidents Forums are distinct. II is a place for formal RP, whereas NS is a more relaxed place for IC talk, a bit of recruitment and regional discussion, etc. We still need a forum where strict RP etiquette is not enforced and where the member nations of regions can discuss regional policy and the like. My two pence.

I put bad idea.

Read the descriptors.

Two very different forums.

Might as well merge the Book & Movie withthe NS 2 For=um while were at it.
Or the UN Form with general. People seem to confuse the latter two anywhen.

And hey, each option has one vote.

I picked the last option because it was the funniest, and because the way it is now you can actually have a sucesful RP with a differnt tech level nation

Heh... merge NS and II.

Considering II was created because players wanted a forum for more serious RP.

Dividing into eras is difficult too. You'd really have to add 5 or six to cover the range. And then, nations like mine would be at a loss. I can interact with Modern, Near-Future and Future rather easily.

Well, I'm completely open to criticism, that's why I asked for commentary. Okay, even if my first suggestion doesn't work out, is there some universal standard we could all use in our topic titles to define what type of RP it is? Some people already mark their topics with #Space RP# or #Private RP#, but what if we could add a button or something to choose from a list of like ten or fifteen RP types on the new topic screen, which would activate an icon or some such thing to show what kind of RP it was? We could even take it a step further and add a search option to search only for particular topic types.

Hack: Well, then post in all three. :P

I think I suggested something like this awhile back, but I don't know. I've seen forums that have over forty categories, all very specialized. Threads don't get buried as fast, either. It might work, it might not. Maybe categories like: "Political RP", "Economic RP", "Social Issues RP". Not by era, but by subject?

Well as I said, I think that merging II and NS would be a terrible idea, but maybe if you split II into Fantasy(that is a Forum which would give EODs no excuse to pit their dragons against defenselese newbs), and Realistic RP.

Well, then you run into the problem of definitions. What is "Fantasy?" What is "Realistic"?

I personally don't think super-luminal ships are realistic, but others do. Magic might be realistic to some, but not to others. That's why I personally think subject based forums might work better.

Fantasy would be f you use dragons, mages, griffins, or anything else that some nations feel that they have the right to use, but most consider godmodding, or technology so far into the future tha as Arthur C. Clark said "indistiguishable from magic."

Realistic would be anything else.

But who decides what "most consider godmoding"? Maybe a vote?

How about "High-Tech" or "Low Tech"? Those might be better words...

No, as dragons qand griffins are not high and low tech.

Of course this does raise the problem of national animals, as many of us use non-existant animals.

I'd rather not. The way it is now it is too hard to find an RP that you are willing and able to be a part of.

Just as long as we do not merge NS and II.

Aye. Also, people are getting better at adding descriptors to their subject lines.
