Things don't seem to stay what I choose them!...?

A while ago, when i got the issue about compulsory voting (for the second time) I said that I wanted to let the people decide. The next day when I checked my home page it said that voting was compulsory.

Yesterday I got an issue about a strike by information technology workers. I said to raise their wages. Now it says the nation is ravaged by daily union strikes. Is this an actual outcome of my choice or is it changing what I choose?

Not sure what you mean here by the option you've chosen. The first option ("Compulsory voting makes about as much as sense as having the death penalty for attempted suicide...") results in voting being voluntary, while the second option ("...The fact is, if not everyone votes, the outcome isn't truly representative...") you've opted in favor of compulsary voting.

Yep! If you give those Union folks what they want in one conflict, others will make big demands as well. Hence the strikes. Now, if you'd chosen the other option, they wouldn't dare strike :P

Unfortunately, there is rarely a middle ground. Regardless of the choice you make, you will most likely get an extreme outcome. The only thing you can vary is in which direction it goes. Also, some decisions do need to be read carefully, their implications are not always obvious.

Why is my nation so weird?
Everything is exaggerated a little. Well, okay, a lot. Your decisions affect your nation very strongly, so your country might seem like a more extreme version of what you were aiming for. Unless you have radical politics. In which case you probably think nothing's wrong.

My decision had unintended consequences!
Yep, that'll happen. For one thing, see "Why is my nation so weird?" above. For another, pretty much every decision you make will involve a trade-off of some kind. It's kind of an exercise in choosing the best of a bunch of bad options. You might find this frustrating, especially if you're the kind of person who thinks the solutions to all the world's problems are obvious.
Does that answer your question?
