Hi! Hope this is the right Forum.

My Country decided in favour of Civil Rights to NOT allow the Death Penalty (Option 2). But now we have !reduced civil rights (from good to average). That doesn't make sense, since the political freedom authority changed the political landscape from NYT Democracy to Inoffensive Central Democracy :(

Can anyone explain why Civil Rights get reduced with this issue?

The people didn't vote to abolish the death penalty. The government outlawed it. That's why the civil rights went down. If you clicked the other option, the civil rights will go up.

they may not have voted for it (they don't vote for anything do they?), but it does seem stupid

but not knowing what the other options were, it may make sense

The decision you made lead to: "extreme political groups are outlawed" (see your nation's description).

While on the one hand people's civil rights will increase (they gain a right to life in certain circumstances), they lose the right to free speech on certain issues because as the issue states: "If the government needs to crack down on lunatic fringe groups in order to keep our great nation free of the death penalty, then so be it." And this you chose to do.

It's a tricky issue, and I personally feel this issue could use a third option where one puts right-to-life in the constitution and still allow people to argue in favor of the death penalty (just not being likely to get their way).

For some of my nations, this is one of my fave issues to dismiss :P
