False Multi reading on NAT networks

I and another NS player were recently banned from the UN when I accidently strayed onto the same NAT (network address translation) network. All the student, staff, and wireless access on my campus use this same network. Does that mean that everyone who has a UN membership on my network is in danger of apparent violations since they all have a private address represented by a single public address? If that is a fact, NS will increasingly disqualify entire campusus as NAT is more commonly used. If this isn't true then I really need an answer to why this happend to me! (I'm mad as a wet hen about my situation but trying not to blow up until I get a full answer from the mods.)

They use more than just the IP scan to check for multis. You most likely came up positive in one or more of the other checks too.

Nothingg is right. We are aware of the problem of NATs, but there is nothing we can do. There are other detection methods we use as well that can be slighly more robust, and if you were kicked, in all likelyhood several different tests reported you as being a multi. Sorry.

I sympathize with you, but please try not to blow up at all on these forums. If you think that blowing up might be a problem, then try taking a brief break from the game to calm down before posting again.
I'm only a Forum Moderator, so I can't investigate your problem, myself.
If you did show up on multiple detection methods, then the Game Moderators have to enforce the rules. There's no way around this; we can't tell how many people are on the other side of a public IP address. It's a hardware limitation

No, I won't blow up here. I know mods and admins do a good job in NS.
I have found the answer I was looking for, however. It turns out both networks run through our squid web caching server and all ip addresses look identical to the outside world no matter where I log on. Bummer!
So my efforts to stay seperate were in vain. I know the net admin and might be able to find a way around this so I'm never using the same address as everyone else if the mods would consider giving me another chance. Is it worth looking into or am I just going to have to quit the game?
I will post this info to the game help. Thanks for the input.

Damn. I am using a university network while I get Broadband fitted at home. This makes me a bit nervous.

Thanks again for the imput and patience during a frustrating situation. The situation has been fully recified on the game end (Thanks Neut and Reppy!). Now I just have to make sure I solve the verificaion process problem before I reapply. My guess is that I need to come up with a plan that ensures that verification can be made and submit it to Neut. Sound about right?

Most universities do not work that way. My limited measurements suggest that you should be fine.

As the need for network security grows and comes to the mind of more administrations I expect a rapid increase in NATted university (and other (semi-)public) networks. At least one university I know of has only recently adopted this practice, however somewhat modified on a per-department and per-section basis, but there's still an increasing chance of two UN people simultaneously using the same IP I'd say. It might therefore become a future problem.

Yes, however we have multiple ways of dealing with this, and our current methods should prove to be sufficient for the immediately forseeable future,
