Old php-problem but a lot worse now?

Threads that have a lot of pages sometimes announces that there are 45 pages, but clicking on 45 will give you this message:

No posts exists for this topic.

That is nothing new and not such a big deal. However, in this thread:

EDIT: It used to be a link here, but since people have posted there later on, it doesn't serve as an example anymore... You just have to take my word for it.

you get the same message on the third page? Isn't that a bit funny?

I know exactly what you mean, last night it was driving me crazy. It seems that when the last page is filled up, but no new post has yet created the next page, a sort of "ghost" next page is created, and if you click there, you get the error message.

This seems to occur because we Moderators delete posts. If the posts hadn't been deleted, then the topic would, indeed, go to that last page. However, the number of page hyperlinks is not corrected when posts are deleted, so when you click on a hyperlink to the last page of a topic that had posts deleted, you can get that error message.

Don't worry about it; it just means that we're working to keep this place clean.

Note that the above explanation is merely my hypothesis. While I have great personal confidence in this explanation, I have not confirmed it with the other Mods or the Admins.

I have checked upon it many times, and often it turned out to be double post on the next page.

Ok, I see. Hmm. I guess there aren't much you can do about that, can you?

We just have to live with our buggy boards.

I see a similar problem inthe messageboard I operate (although I delete a lot fewer posts than you folks here ;) ). Don't you have an option 'rebuild topic' or something? That solves the problem on my board.
