The Issue
After several bloody conflicts in nearby regions, a stream of asylum-seekers and refugees has been spotted heading for @@NAME@@'s shores.

The Debate
"Some of these people have endured terrible hardships to reach our borders," says International Red Cross spokesperson @@RANDOMNAME@@. "We must welcome these unfortunates with opens arms. Let the world see that @@NAME@@ does not turn its back on those in need!"

"These grasping freeloaders will swamp our culture and traditions!" argues talk-radio host @@RANDOMNAME@@. "First they want welfare, next thing you know they're taking our jobs -- and you know they won't bother to learn our language. I say charity begins at home -- and this isn't their home. This is the world's problem, not ours."

Economics Professor @@RANDOMNAME@@ offers an alternative. "There is no question that we have to help those who reach out to us in their darkest hour. But on the other hand, we cannot help everybody. So let's just take the ones who are willing to keep our streets clean and our drains flowing in return for a subsistence wage."

Like The SLAGLands, I am a grammar freak, and this is unacceptable!

Can't imagine why no one's noticed this before...

In 'One Wife is Never Enough, Say Polygamists' section 2 states:-

"This is nothing more than sexual deviants using religion as a pretext for perversion!" says Reverend Sue-Ann Falopian. "Marriage is one man, one woman, and death do we part. What's so hard to get? Anything else is a perversion, and must be banned."

Should it not be 'Marriage is one man, one woman, and TILL death do we part'.

Spelling/Grammatical errors don't really bother me. I mean as long as it's intelligible does it really matter?
11-09-2003, 04:26
doesnt really matter about the spelling when we keep getting the same freaking issues every week

I think that it does matter. The spelling and grammer contained within the issues should be correct!

In general, I'd say grammar is important to me (and the International Superhighway does bother me, although it's not really a spelling/grammar error). Although in principle I have no problem with people writing casually and with imperfect grammar on AIM or e-mail or forums, etc., it's often distracting and in some cases makes things hard to understand. However, I think the priority should be creating more issues, and if the errors aren't too distracting, there's no reason to be overly careful.

On the other hand, it IS rather fun to make fun of said errors ;-)

In the NS history it says that a grammar error had been corrected along with 'talk of dollars' in an issue. I was the one to point them out. Me!

Darn it - now I wish I'd kept a list of all the spelling and grammatical errors I've seen in the issues.

The one that bugs me the most is where it says reigning in spending when it should be reining.

If anyone remembers which issue that is - please post it here!

You can look at the text of all the current issues in the NationStates Issues **SPOILER ALERT** (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=53919) thread.

Note this doesn't list the possible nation texts that result from issue choices. I do have such a list (complete), but am still pondering on whether or not this isn't too much of a spoiler to add to the current spoiler list.
