Dancougar Bid: Cup of Harmony 38

This bid brought to you by this thing to your right, I guess. Which is hopefully a box of nothing, which means your add-ons have served you well.

It's been called many things - not all of them positive - but it's back. Cup of Harmony 38 will be held concurrently with World Cup 46 and is a means for nations which don't qualify for the final tournament to still earn some KPB points and improve their ranking.

Here are the particulars of a solo Dancougar bid.

Who's eligible: All nations who did not qualify for World Cup 46 and made at least one in-character post in the World Cup 46 RP thread. Note that this does not include rosters.

Invitations will be sent out via telegram to all nations meeting the criteria. The tournament will be opt-in, so it requires nations to accept the invitation explicitly. Nations which did not post an RP and those which did not participate in qualifiers at all may sign up to go on a waiting list. If a "nice" number of qualified nations to not accept their invitation, teams will be added first-come-first-serve off the waiting list as needed.

Once qualification is over, the list of nations eligible via these criteria will be posted to this thread for informative purposes only. They will become the invitation pool should this bid be selected.

Format: There will be a group stage followed by a knockout stage. Ideally, there will be 4 or 5 teams per group, but this will be flexed as needed. Each team will play a round-robin schedule, and the top teams will be seeded for a final bracket.

Group stage tiebreakers will be: points, head-to-head result, goal differential, goals scored, playoff game.

Scorination: Matches will be scorinated with NSFootySim 2.0.7.2, which is just NSFS 2.0.7 with my American football/rugby attachments bolted on. A link can be found in my signature. Teams will be ranked by their post-qualification KPB score, or their pre-qualification score if those are unavailable.

Scorination will generally be done between 10 pm and midnight eastern daylight time, which corresponds to 0200-0400 GMT. Any delays will be announced with as much advanced warning as possible.

RP Bonus: We define an RP to be all in-character posts made by a nation from their last scorinated matchday to the one about to be scored. This means that nobody can stockpile during their bye, should they have one. There is an implicit matchday zero that begins when the Everything thread goes up, and all posts - including rosters - will count towards the bonus.

Given an RP, the bonus B is a recursive function B(n), where n is the matchday, such that B(n) = f(RP) + 0.75 B(n-1). This basically means that your RP bonus is cumulative but also degrades to 75% its initial value every day. This encourages frequent roleplaying while not stiffly punishing someone for missing a day or two. In case you're wondering, B(0) = 0.

The scoring function itself, f, produces a value between 0 and 3 for a given RP based on quality, entertainment, and other considerations. An RP need not be long to be brilliant, nor does it to follow any specific format or style... they should be as fun to write as they are to read. A maximum value of 3 KPB points per RP, combined with the degradation rate, means that teams can boost their KPB score by as many as 12 points, which is significant and holds with the Cup of Harmony's traditional use of RP as a major factor in scorination.

Past Experience: Dancougar solo-hosted Baptism of Fire 31 and co-hosted Cup of Harmony 36 with Cafundeu. Outside of football, Dancougar has solo-hosted the first three International Basketball Championships using a custom-written simulator.
