20 years ago (depending on your nations reckoning of time); the WBC was launched by American Fist and Hosted by Qazox. Then 16 teams took part. Just 2 years ago 24 teams took part, and Newmanistan won their first title.

So who will take home the title as the WBC begins it's 3rd decade of competition? Will it be 3-time champions Qazox? or will Newmanistan repeat? Can Taeshan finally break though and win? Or will there be someone else taking home the title?

The only way to find out is to join the WBC to "Play the World, Beat the World"!

Cutoff for Hosting Bids will be on May 5th at 12:01 am EDT (6:01 am UTC).

If there is more than one bid by then, then bid details will need to be posted by NO LATER than May 8th at 12:01 am EDT (6:01 am UTC), which will alos serve as the Sign-up CUTOFF as well. A vote (consisting of TG'ing me on NS) will be held from that time until May 11th at 12:01 am EDT (6:01 am UTC). With (hopefully the 11th WBC to start within a week)

If there is only the one bid, Then Signups will close on May 8th at 12:01 am EDT (6:01 am UTC), or at the hosts' discretion.

It looks as though our bid will be the only hosting bid. If so, we presently have 20 signups if Liventia intends to participate and 19 if not. 20 will be a good number to go to battle with and someone could put in a puppet if Liventia chose not too.

So how about it, Liventia? In or not?

So far I have only expressed that I would be interested in hosting and have not provided any specific details about it. First of all, it will be scorinated with the same spreadsheet program that I used in World Baseball Classic 8, which pretty much mirrors the one used, I believe, in version 6. There will be a cumulative RP bonus in effect, which will decrease by 50% after every even-numbered matchday.

With 20 teams, we will have four groups of five with everyone playing each other at home and away. To advance to Newmanistan, you will need to finish in the top two of your group. The quarterfinal and semifinals will be a best-of-three and the finals will be a best-of-five.

As I need to have this done by June 5th (or else the 6th-8th will all be off days), I would like to begin play ASAP. So if my hosting is officially confirmed, SIGNUPS ARE CLOSED NOW with #20 either being Liventia or someone's (mine if necessary) puppet.
Tocrowkia
05-05-2009, 06:06
So are you saying that the RP bonus will eventually become mute after a certain number of matchdays? Meaning a team that RPs every game will essentially be even with a team that hasn't RPed any in those terms?
Newmanistan

So are you saying that the RP bonus will eventually become mute after a certain number of matchdays? Meaning a team that RPs every game will essentially be even with a team that hasn't RPed any in those terms?

No... Here's an example.

MD1- Team A earns .4
MD2- earn .5
Total for MD2 scorination- .9
50% reduction- .45
MD3- earn .4
Total for MD3 Scorination- .85
MD4- earn .45
Total for MD4 scorination- 1.3
50% reduction- .65
MD5- earn .5
Total for MD5 scorination- 1.15

The idea, which I have learned seems to preferable, is that the occasional reductions don't penalize those who can't always RP every day. If you RP every day, you'll still be ahead of them, and will always be ahead of a non-RPer.

Up to 1.0 will be possible to be earned on each matchday as well. Daily RPer's aren't punished, it just keeps someone who might have to miss a few days from getting way behind.

Oh, okay. And just to confirm, WBC XI is going to be an international event, correct? As in, The Nordics will play all their home games in division play in a stadium in Tocrowkia, right?

Correct and I'll use this space to also point out that the home team will also determine if the DH is used in the game, so that should be specified on their roster post.

Teams that do not provide rosters will NOT have the DH when they are home.

By the way, can someone point out a reasonably straightforward, Brit-friendly article on baseball? My only knowledge of the sport comes from the opening section of Underworld by Don DeLillo, the second verse of "Piazza, New York Catcher" by Belle & Sebastian, and a few lines of dialogue from Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Not sure that's going to be enough to sustain an RP campaign. I tried reading the wikipedia article but it made my eyes bleed.

Yes, this is going to conflict with World Cup qualifying almost to the letter, but I have to get this done by June 5th or else there will be an extended three-day off-day period.

Three-day off-day... never stopped me ^_^

I hate to turn away a former champion, but signups did close a couple days ago at 20.
You'd be one of the people I'd like to make an exception for, allow you in, and go with 21, but I want to see what others here think about that.
Dancougar
08-05-2009, 04:06
I'd be fine with it. Would three groups of seven force the three-day off-day, though, for adding group-stage games? Or would you do three groups of five and one of six to try and make it fit?
Qazox

YAY finally got my new internet connection up and running (only took 3 damn days..)
Qazox
08-05-2009, 04:23
And Yes Newmanistan IS the host...
Newmanistan
08-05-2009, 07:18
Alright, I'm going to envoke a "He's a former champion and I better not make the Milchamans mad or they'll kick our butt in football (soccer) again," clause. The real reason I am doing this is this: In a previous post, Qazox had mentioned that signups would close on the 8th. This statement that I made of: So if my hosting is officially confirmed, SIGNUPS ARE CLOSED NOW on the 4th could have been seen as they were still open until the 8th because I had not been officially confirmed until tonight. Plus this is a seasoned WBC veteran we are talking about.

21 teams can work, after all, and I worked up a schedule that would have it done on June 5th (but would not have any off days).

For this act of graciousness, Milchama owes us a post- World Cup 46 qualifying friendly in Newmanistan. Only seems fair.

I'm curious as to this as well.
Newmanistan
08-05-2009, 08:39
Three groups of seven will be used. With no off-days in the schedule, the competition will finish on June 5th if started on the 11th as planned, a winner-take-all 8 vs 9 preliminary, best-of-three quarter & semi finals, and a five game final. So this is what will occur.
