Swilatia
15-03-2009, 16:40
The following 22 countries have all expressed interest in participating in the ninth WorldVision song contest. As the time of year when the contest will go on draws closer, it is now time for these countries to select what song they will be entering into the contest. All that needs to be posted here is your song's title and artist, although one can also tell how the song was selected, whether it was a televised contest, a jury vote, an internal selection, or some other strange process. It's your country, do whatever you want!

Dennis: "Greetings Future-World and welcome to the fourth annual Futurian Rock Festival. We are Dennis Fu and Troy Anders, replacing John and Eddie this year. Right Troy, what can we expect tonight?"

Troy: "Well, I won't hope for that much really. It seems only one of the Gold Bands are actually participating this year"

Dennis: "Only one? Which one then, even though I already know the answer..."

Troy: "Velvet Zink of course, participating with yet another long rock-ballad."

Dennis: "What I want to know is how they became a Gold Band in the first place, why would anyone listen to their 'music'? But you still surprise me, aren't Flaming Howl or the Spoons joining?"

Troy: "Well, the Spoons said that they might come, so they won't. You know how it is, if they are expected they don't show up, at least not at the time and manner expected. Besides I think we have a rule about participating twice in a row..."

Dennis: "Yes, yes, but we might host the WorldVision this year, think about the opportunity!"

Troy: "I don't think they've ever cared about such things. Anyway, I thought you had heard that the Howls are splitting up?"

Dennis: "Yeah, but I didn't really believe it. Keem's fault right?"

Troy: "Yes, apparently he wanted to keep the trophy at his place, instead of the Museum of Modern Music like the rest of the band wanted"

Dennis: "Must be some kind of foreign idea"

Troy: "Maybe so, well the Insanez (omg we have a 'z' at the end we are so suuuper cool now!) aren't coming this year either"

Dennis: "Good, their name is to long to fit on the scoreboards anyway"

Troy: "And the other Gold Bands are already broken up or about to, so that leaves the Velvet Zink. I don't really see them representing us in the Vision though"

Dennis: "How about the Silver Bands? I heard there is a number of real shooting stars among them"

Troy: "Agreed, it might be good with some fresh blood"

Dennis: "Well, we can at least agree that we hope for a great national competition, and a WorldVision hosted in Future-World! We will be back after the commercials."

OK.

Due a very serious RL issue, I'm not going to be on Jolt consistantly for the near future.

So effective on this upcoming Tuesday, I will not have consistant internet access.

I don't know when I will be back on Jolt Full-time, hopefully soon though it is very doubtful, but for the foreseeable future, I (and to the same extent, Green wombat and Prux) will not be participating in any upcoming tourneys or events. We will attempt to RP in the events we are currently are in, but don't be suprised if none of us do.

And to answer a couple of questions:

NO I'm not going to jail
NO I'm not battling an illness.
NO I'm not dying.
YES I am moving.

(I will attempt to RP in this as best I can)

Nethertopia
22-03-2009, 13:04
A man on a podium somewhere in Nethertopia announced it. It was widely watched, since the WorldVision has become immensely popular in Nethertopia since it hosted it. The Good ol' days (NOT) has reached number one in the charts, on a side note.

Anyway, the man said the following: "Nethertopia will be representated by The Occult, continuing the rock/metal scene that has been moderately successful for Nethertopia. The song is called Spirits in my head. It's about a man who has trouble living with his past.

Thank you for your attention."
Kura-Pelland
23-03-2009, 03:03
The Kura-Pellandi national final This Is Our Sound is scheduled to take place this Wednesday. It is seen as a wide-open field this year, and as usual a huge array of styles are represented.

After the last-minute cancellation of the country's entry to the last contest, hope and fear are running almost equally high.

"...and representing Zwangzug in Futuria will be Hobbyhoarse, performing "I Think, Therefore I'm Sad"."

"Okay, now everyone else can tune out, and we'll send it over to the funny desk for those of you around here who still care."

And over to the funny desk we go, graphic and all... (http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/1791/wv9.png)

"So in first place we have Hobbyhoarse, a little bigger range than the rest of the top four."

"What about the second place?"

""Concertino for bleepinator and wind ensemble" doesn't count."

"...Thankfully."

"Yeah. So, middle c on down."

"Rumor has it that it's actually going to be done correctly this time around, rather than the inexplicably 8va renditions of pretty much all of them short of Teagan Gremer."

"Hope so."

"Good news is it ends on an E, just like it starts, so not another sol-do thing."

"Yeah, well, it would have been, if the bridge hadn't decided to take it up a fifth."

"Now I've heard that the bridge sounds sort of like "The Pendulum"'s? Is this a problem?"

"Nah, The Neoreactionaries are busy working on their new album. They don't care."

"Oh? What's it called?"

""What I Wouldn't Do To Rock." Or something."

"Whatever. Anything else we need to know about the winner?"

"It's not about killing people in their sleep."

"I sort of figured that, there's no burnination."

"Well, just in case you wonder. The first line's just symbolic."

"Are they trying to be all deep?"

"Probably."

"Oh well."

Troy: "Yes, the news have arrived, WorldVision 9 will be held here, in Futuria!"

The cheers and applause filled the arena and it took several minutes before Troy could continue.

Troy: "But we still have the mission to select whom should represent us in the Vision, so here are the candidates:

02) Sunshine by Trice the Revolution
03) Hope is Ours by Velvet Zink
06) Fred by ZFZ
10) The Lonely Song by Reactor Shutdown
12) Victims of Greed by No Flavour

Everyone start your voting... nnnnnow!"
-Ten minutes later-

"And the voting ends in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1! We should get the results in any moment... Yes, here they are!"

Troy waved the little computer screen in his hand.

"And the winner of Futurian Rock Show 2009 is... Trice the Revolution witht the song 'Sunshine'! Congratulations!"

Winner:

(OOC: To save time, I'm giving you the English version, omitting the original Esperanto, except for song titles. Translation from Esperanto is in square brackets, from Pastarr in curly brackets)
This is Nina Musikisto here on Channel 2, Esperantujo 2. Here are the results of the vote, and what a great variety we've had this time.
In fifth place is Rikardo Klifo with Eterne [Eternally]. He never gives up, does he? He was singing when I was a little tiny girl. He must be a hundred years old, and he hasn't come out yet!
In fourth place is the religious number sung by the Pastafarrian Tabernacle Choir, Hujarr, Hujarr, Farr Sarr Marr {All praise to the Flying Spaghetti Monster}. Well, I don't do gods, but if it turns some people on.
Third comes our President, Aleksandra Kuiristo, with her own song, Ni Nudigxu [Let's Get Naked]. Well, being neither a man nor a lesbian I'm not an expert on such things, but wow! I'm sure I didn't look as good as that, without my clothes on, when I was 21. If the President gives up politics I'm sure she could make a good career as an exotic dancer.
Second are the Kontrauxrauxmistoj with their patriotic song, Ghis La Fina Venko [Until the Final Victory]. Well they've been going nearly as long as Rikardo, and they've never made a bad one.
At last the easy winner, the surprise entry. And I believe it would have won without the School Students' votes. Yes, it's Friendly Monkeys, by the Friendly Monkeys with Eriko Charulo! Weren't those monkeys fantastic! And they'd never been out of the jungle before, or seen a human adult! Eriko is only 10 years old. I think he is going to be the next Mihhajlo Ghakido.
So the Monkeys and Eriko will be representing us in Futuria.

An exciting evening of high drama at the Unity Arena in Trilan, home of WorldVision in the past, now home again for the long-awaited return of the qualification. This Is Our Sound drew a huge audience on NTV1, and with the national football team having just knocked Vephrall out of the World Cup, national pride was swelling. Whether this would manifest itself in conservatism was a moot point; opinion polls were only showing a small bounce to the National Democrats at this point, but with the devolution of powers to Noorde and Sudesti now confirmed at seemingly the precise wrong moment...

Little sign of any politicised voting, though plenty will look out for more of a sign when detailed data emerges, in the final though, and it is Charlotte Pinter who will represent the nation at WorldVision 9 with To Find Someone, which is that most Kura-Pellandi of things, a theatrical ballad.

Just tell us which one's your song, okay? the threads been open for two weeks now. Posting the finalists and winner separately just makes this thread slower then it needs to be.

Some of us would rather be doing the contest by now.

"Welcome back to the national finals of BABC's ‘Song for the Bears' contest!
For any of you who don't already know us, we are your hosts for this evening's show: I'm Alasbearr Thunder..."

"...and I'm Urra Lightning."

"In a programme that was broadcast three days ago, you heard all the two-eights of songs that had come forward to this stage from the eight-plus-two[/i] regional finals: The winning entry from each region, the four runners-up that did best in terms of their shares of the votes, and two more that were then selected from amongst the remaining entries by a national committee.
Voting about which of those songs should be taken to the Worldvision competition to represent our country and people was open for the whole period in between these two programmes, the votes that were cast in every region have now been sent in and the results compiled: We will now announce what your overall choice was, and give you a chance to hear each of your most-favoured eight songs again.
Firstly though, Urra, please tell our listeners exactly how the winning song was chosen..."

"Well, Alasbearr, the BABC and the Order of Bairrds -- who actually organised this contest on the ground -- agreed that the result should be determined in basically the same way as the international contest into which our winner will now progress will be _
The people in each of the eight-plus-two regions into which the country is divided for broadcasting purposes, each of which has one song in these finals, were allowed to cast their individual votes for any songs apart from their own regions' ones: then, for the overall result, instead of just adding up all of the regional numbers of votes for each entry, each song was allocated a number of points from each region based on its popularity there... and it's the total numbers of points that the songs gained on that basis that's been used to identify the winner. The system used was that each song received eight-plus-four points from a region if it was the locals' first choice, eight-plus-two points if it came second there, eight points if it came third, seven points if it came fourth, six points if it came fifth, and so on down to one point if it came eight-plus-two’th… with no points at all or any song that was less popular than that…”
"That's a rather complicated system for voting, Urra."

"Yes, Alasbearr, but given the differences in the regions' populations it was decided that using this method — which is actually the same one that will be used internationally in the ‘WorldVision’ contest itself — would be fairer than simply counting the totals of the individual votes that were cast for each entry.
Anyway, it's done now, so here are the overall results, from last place upwards _

In two-eighth place, with just seven points: ‘Ergorrah Marrlay’ by Garro Yarr, who come from Clan WhiteWater and are here as the top entry from the ‘Mainland South’ region.
In eight-plus-seventh place, with eight-plus-three points: ‘The White Bison’, by The Woodruffs, who come from Clan WildWoods and are here as the top entry in the ‘Mainland East’ region.
And in eight-plus-sixth place, with eight-plus-five points: ‘The Littlest Hero Of Them All’, by Yabba Darra Booh, who come from Clan Yrrath and were the runners-up in the Mainland South’ region.
In eight-plus-fifth place, with three-eights points: ‘Beyond The River’, by Charrf Reh’harr, who comes from Clan WestWoods -- in the ‘Mainland West’ region -- and is here as one of the national committee’s choices.
In eight-plus-fourth place, with three-eights-plus-three points: ‘Praise Him!’, by the Choir of the Cathedral of St Demetrius, who come from Clan Ostbora and are here as the top entry from the ‘Mainland North-East’ region.
In eight-plus-two’th place, jointly, with three-eights-plus five points each: ‘ Miorr Koll Garra Hye Yerran’, by Mavoree, who comes from the Garra clans and was runner-up in the ‘Northlands West’ region; and ‘Hrim—Hrem—Hram—Hrum—Hrom’, by The Kings’ Singers, who mostly come from Clan Redwood and who are here as the runners-up from the ‘Mainland East-Central’ region.
And in eight-plus-one’th place, with five-eights-plus-one points: ‘Just Love Me’, by ThunderBears Are Go!, who come from Clan WestWoods and are here as the top entry in the ‘Mainland West’ region.”

“And now, in eighth place, with five-eights-plus-two points: ‘Therrindra’s Song’, by Therrindra, who comes from Clan SeaBear and is here as the top entry from the ‘Northlands West’ region.”
(The camera pans across the studio to a stage, on which a brown-furred female Ursine [wearing a long blue-green dress] is standing in front of a string quartet & a harpist: She sings a lovely ballad about being courted by several suitors, each with some different advantage to offer, and choosing the one who most sincerely offered true love forever …)

“In seventh place, with five-eights-plus-three points: ‘Like A Forest Fire!’, by Green Heat, who come from Clan GreenWoods and are here as the top entry from the ‘Mainland North-Central’ region.”
(The camera pans back across to the stage, which is now occupied by a septet of male Ursines [all of whom are wearing ‘safari suit’—type outfits in green denim], five of them carrying various guitar-type or mandolin/lute-type instruments whilst another is holding a saxophone and the last is sitting behind a drum kit. They play & sing a rock song about the overwhelming power of love…)

In sixth place, with five-eights-plus-four points: ‘The Hills of Dorr-Ee-Parrtunn’, by Pirr-Nark-Porra-Yaar, who also come from Clan GreenWoods and are here as the top entry from the ‘Mainland North-Central’ region.
(The band [i]this time is more of a folk-rock one, who play a very lively tune but who sing the accompanying lyrics in ursine rather than in English or in any other Human language…)

And in fifth place, with five-eights-plus-six points: ‘Sweet, Sweet Cider’, by Shuffro, who come from Clan WestWoods and were the runners-up for the ‘Mainland West’ region.”
(Another folk-rock group, singing a humorous song — in English — about drinking cider & its effects. [OOC: If you’ve ever heard a RL group who are called ‘The Wurzels’ then think of an Ursine version of that band…])

“We’ll be back again, with the top four entries and an interview with the winners, after these adverts…”

“And now, the songs that you have voted into the top four places in this year’s competition. These four entries, whose relative places have yet to be revealed, are _

‘Silver and Gold’, by ‘Urratharra and Friends’, who come from Clan BerryGlades and are here as the top entry from the ‘Mainland West-Central’ region. Yes, that is the very same ‘Urratharra’ who represented our nation in the second ’NSvision Song Contest’, and whose song from that competition —‘Peace’ — was subsequently adapted slightly for use as our National Anthem.
‘Save All Your Hugging For Me’, by ‘The Brotherhood of Bear’ who come from Council Groves in the ‘Mainland East-Central’ region and are here as one of the national committee’s choices.
‘Yellow Railway-Train, by The QuarryBears, who come from Clan WideWater and are here as the top entry from the ‘Mainland North’ region.
‘Honey, Honey, Honey!’, by Baab, who come from Clan Thuleann and are here as the top entry from the ‘Northlands East’ region.

And in fourth place, with six-eights-plus-two points, it’s The QuarryBears and ‘Yellow Railway-Train.”
(The band that’s on stage now consists of five male Ursines, all of whom are [fairly young] adult males with brown fur, wearing overalls: Three of them are carrying guitars, while one is standing by a double bass and the last is sitting behind a drum-kit. At a signal from offstage, they begin to play & sing_)

“In the grove where I was born,
Lived a Bear who’d toured the lan’;
And he told of us his trips
Out to vis-it every Clan:

We all live in a yellow railway-train,
A yellow railway-train, a yellow railway-train;
We all live in a yellow railway-train,
A yellow railway-train, a yellow railway-train.”
(etc.)

“Thank you, ‘The QuarryBears’, five young he-bears whom I think will go far; Let’s all give them a great big paw!”
(The crowd applauds...)

And in third place, with six-eights-plus-six points, it’s ’The Brotherhood of Bear’ and ‘Save All Your Hugging For Me’.
(The previous act has now been replaced by a line of eight Ursines, again all of them male, each of whom is wearing a different Clan’s traditional ceremonial costume. There are a number of musicians positioned behind them, but screens and the lighting have been arranged so that these aren’t really visible from the audience. When the signal is given, the bears in the front row begin to sing_)
(OOC: but I’m not going to quote any of this song; You can probably work out what it’s like, anyway, right?)

“So, which of the two remaining songs will it be? Have you chosen Urratharra to represent us again, or are you giving ’Babb’ a chance to do so — as the first entrants from the Northlands to do so — instead? Urra will now open the envelope that’s lying on the desk in front of her, and read out the final results...”

(Urra opens that envelope, draws a sheet of paper out from it, reads this, draws out the pause for a bit longer, and then declares the runner-up and the winner ...)

“You have given ‘Honey, Honey, Honey!’, by Baab, six-eights-plus-seven points... BUT you have given ‘Silver and Gold’, by ‘Urratharra and Friends’, eightsquared points! The winning entry in this contest, and our representative in the WorldVision competition, is therefore_
‘Silver and Gold’, by ‘Urratharra and Friends’!

(MASSIVE applause from the audience!)

“‘Urratharra and Friends’ will perform their song for us again shortly, and after that we will be interviewing them, but before that happens let us have A GREAT BIG PAW for ‘Baab’!”

(More MASSIVE applause from the audience...)

(On stage now, four Ursines — all of them dressed in white, and not carrying any musical instruments — with some musicians in the screened shadows behind them. Two members of the front quartet are males, both of whom are brown-furred, and the other two [who are standing between those] are females one of whom has fur of a very light shade and the other fur that is almost black. The male on the left-hand end of the line, from their own viewpoint begins to sing_)

(him)“I hunt all night, I fish all day,
To pay the bills I have to pay;”
(the others) “That’s too bad!”
(him)“But still there never seems to be
A jar of Honey left for me!”
(the others)“That’s so sad!”
(him)“I dare dream, to beat this Fate,
That I’ll find me a wealthy mate;
I wouldn’t have to work at all,
All that I’d have to do is ball!”

(all of them)”Honey, honey, honey!
Must be funny, in a rich Bear’s world;
Honey, honey, honey!
Always sunny, in a rich Bear’s world!”

(and so on...)
