OOC Gaining Interest: Racing

I know there have been plenty of legit F1/NASCAR/GT type racing RP, but if I were to attempt to run a Cannonball style RP, would anyone be interested? Cross country, fast cars, awesome parties, stuff like that. I have an idea on how to run it, figuring out who gets to each check point when. Just use a scorinater, and let everyone RP out the journey from each check point to the next. If anyone has any interest, just say so, and I'll get working on puting something together.

Actually MO I have thought of similar things at times. But I'd love to hear how you would do it. I was going to steal some ideas from a card game which would demand you slow due to various circumstances, cops, etc.

due to various circumstances, cops, etc.

In this game, cops would mean you go faster... Unless you wanted to get arrested/go to jail, lol. The idea is cross country, I'm going to be working out the specific country with another player. Or maybe not fully cross country but a decent bit of distance. High speed straights, twisty mountain passes, out running cops and other racers.

The race will be run in stages, check point to check point. Do to the general discrepancies between RPers, the inability for everyone to be online at the same time, and the general pride of the player in wanting to be first, the placing in each stage would be decided by a RNG. Each player would have a number, and then that number will be randomly figured into an order. This would be done for the main stages for nothing more than RPing purposes, i.e. bragging rights on who finished first, who gets to leave first in the morning, etc. Finishing in certain places would get the player points, the player with the most points at the end of the race wins. There would be extra points for winning the final stage.

At the beginning of each stage, the players would RP leaving the hotel of their check point, and then I'd run the scorinator and send out to the players where they finished. It would be up to them to RP in one or two posts the actual trip from the staging start to end. I would also probably offer up suggestions or maybe scenarios that all the players would want to incorporate into their posts about why they finished where they did, weather, imperial entanglements, traffic, accidents, etc.

The main RPing portion would be handled in the parties/night life events/drama in between the racers. While the main in character focus will be the race, it is a character oriented RP at heart. Id like to see most of the postings being interaction with the characters. The winning racer would receive a fairly large sum of money, a fun little trophy, and seeing as it is an underground race, a sort of unofficial title.

Technology would be purely modern, with very, very slight post modern. Nothing to much out of this world. I've worked on my fair share of very fast cars, so even if you aren't a car expert or car person, I'd be glad to help anyone with a car. I already have mine all picked out...If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask.

Here's my bio and vehicle.

Name: Linden Sandoval McCoy
Age: 26
Nationality: Tanaaran ( currently ) expat American
Ht: 5' 10"
Wt: 135
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/4313/linden.th.jpg (http://img208.imageshack.us/my.php?image=linden.jpg)

Bio: I'm one of the more distant relatives of the Pettimores, and while I didn't know about them till I was in my teens -I grew up mostly elsewhere- but I've got the 'fast car' and maybe even the 'outlaw' genes. Jonni Lea was opening up a Tanaaran branch of Front Runner Automotive Brokers, and wanted family in residence as final oversight. I liked the idea moving to Tanaara - I'd visited the country before with Aunt Rowan -and she and I moved there and I entered the well respected Tanaaran Academy of Art.

I got my bachelors in Photography, then a took a masters degree in Library Science. It took longer than I wanted but I also spent two years in between solely focusing on fulfilling the basic Citizenship requirment. Thats five thousand hours done, with another five thousand due over the next five years.

I'm the manager of the Tanaaran branch of Front Runners now, Roawn having 'retired' to persue her singing career. I enjoy handling the business, it's perfect for me - it allows me to do what I've come to love doing. Driving in rallys, finding hot cars, meeting interesting people and scoping out stunning places to photograph. And if I ever need to settle down at a 'job' ... well, I am a librarian.

The car - but in deep, rich cobalt blue

It had started life as one of the handfull of hand built Orions that New Owl Customs made. After the Fall of Imitora, it sat for over a year, unclaimed and unloved. As well as one might guess when the owner had spontaneously combusted while in the drivers seat shortly after the opening arias of the Fall. The acid rain that had ruined the exterior coach work had done it no favor either. I found it and had it restored, both interior and exterior.

Vehicle Information:
• Motor: New Owl Customs Six point Two Liter V12, Twin Turboed and Intercooled
• Chassis: BMW E65 Seven Series Extended

• 700bhp@6000rpm
• 800lb-ft@2000rpm
• 0-60 in 3.8seconds
• 1/4mile / 10.98@124mph
• Top speed 220mph

Performance Package:
• Remapped ECU and Boost Control
• Free Flowing Titanium Exhaust
• Debaffled Air Intake
• Transmission ECU control flash
• Raised Rev Limiter
• Ultra Light Weight BBS Wheels

The interior is the finest in connolly leather, hand inset burlwood, virgin wool rugs - built in to the front consoles are the display screens for two front mounted L3 FLIR cameras, three Garmin GPS, holders for dual headsets with boom mic for the Galaxy DX939 CB, a Uniden BC396T and 996D - police scanners, the control switchs for the under hood and trunk mounted Blinder M40 laser jammer as well as a under hood M25 laser jammer, a hard wired Valentine V1 radar detecter, Blue Tooth connectivity, holders for the 2 sets of low light military grade binoculars, and a carputer diagnostics display screen.... yes the interior would make a Knight Rider geek drool, even if the After isn't weaponized...yet.

As one reviewer once wrote:

The first thing you notice about starting up the Orion is the almost lack of motor noise. There is no bark then roar, no crack of the motor cranking up. No, just a simple brief starter motor wine, and then an intoxicating burble of twelve cylinders, two turbos, and six point two liters emptying down a custom stainless steel exhaust system. It mixes the best of Ferrari, BMW, and Mercedes together, and leaves out the nasty parts. But inside the cabin, thanks to liberal use of sound deadening equipment, the ride is perfectly quiet, and the 6.2L mill is almost non existent. That is, of course, till you get it on the road.

The biturbo set up has little to no lag, and this is perfect for city driving. Baffles in the engine bay prevent any of the usual noise of turbo systems annoying the driver or other near by cars. The sound of vented or recirculated boost is non existent, and the whine of twin turbines spooling up is subdued. Off the lights, the car is smooth, and the auto tranny shifts nicely. Gear changes are firm and sporty, as expected from an Imitoran built car, but not abrupt to disturb the driver or passengers. Still, I would think them to be a bit softer in a Ultra Luxury, maybe a bit looser to transition changes softer.

On the highway, it all comes together perfectly. At hard acceleration, there is but the muffled roar of the motor pulling the car forward, and the paddle shifters are real paddles, not buttons akin to the majority of semi auto cars. The transmission itself is a first run production DSG from Getrag, and the firm’s reputation for some of the best transmissions around still holds. Road noise is non existent, and even over the minute number of bumpy highways in Imitora, the ride is smooth.

The sporty suspension set up, all custom equipment from Dinan, is a bit firm for a car like this, and would be more at home on a sports car. However, it isn’t too firm to the point of discomfort, but maybe something a bit more Maybach like would have been appreciated. However, it is perfectly at home on twisty mountain ranges and back roads, where we find the mannerism of this car in an odd limbo. The car feels as light and nimble as an FC RX-7, the bulk of the vehicle never coming into play. It never once looses the luxury and exclusive feeling as you apex a down hill 180, pulling away from that kid in the Cayman trying to run you down in the passes. Remember how I said we would talk about using your ultra lux to embarrass some real sports cars? There was also that Shelby GT500 that we pulled away from on the highway, while my wife sat shot gun reading a news paper, and in the back seat our daughter and her newest love interest sipped some of the finer Champaign available. And none of them knew that the Shelby was even there.

But the Shelby I pulled away from certainly knew I was there, as I left him in the dust....

Our nation also has a history of racing, albeit on the continental stage, i.e. within our own continent.

We would like our Kulsah-Buick team to compete.

This is our car which we intend to enter:

Kulsah-Buick Relzah 3800 V6 4x4 SSG Turbo 4-door Saloon (sedan and coupe versions available)

One of the most popular Kulsah-Buicks, this was adapted for racing in 2004, and is a consistently successful car across Astholm's motor racing scene.
This one is a four-wheel-drive adaptation for Astholm's off-road racing tournament, which draws crowds from all over the continent.

We use both versions for racing, and the Kulsah-Buick name is widely known within Astholm both for luxury cars and racing - great for us.

Astholm, interesting choice in cars. It should be interesting to see how a non GNX Butt Ugly In Central Kentucky handles the race! Tan, as always, excellent work. Sorry I haven't updated this, I've been busy all weekend with far to much drama that I try not to deal with, but it involves my best friend and his girl, so I get sucked in be it I like it or not. I'll have a character and a car up soon. IF we can get maybe one or two more people in on this, then I think we will be good to go.

You don't know what a GNX is?

Oh your poor deprived child...

It is the vehicle that was the first ever given the classic line of:

"Dath Vader your car is ready"

http://www.atddm.com/GNX1.jpg

Grand National racing video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VneQFkT2WPQ)

and the Judas Priest fits it perfectly!

Per Wiki...

1987 also offered a lightweight WE4 (Turbo T) option. Only 1,547 of this variant were produced. They were painted black and treated to the same blackout package as the Grand National, including bumpers, grille, headlight and taillight trim. The differences between a WE4 and the base Grand National were the interior trim package, wheels, exterior badging, aluminum bumper supports, and aluminum rear brake drums as opposed to the Grand National's cast iron. The rear spoiler was only available as a dealer installed option. 1987 was the only year that the LC2 Turbo option was available on any Regal, making it possible to even see a Limited with a vinyl landau roof and a power bulge turbo hood.

For the final year, 1987, Buick introduced the GNX at $29,000. Produced by McLaren/ASC, Buick underrated the GNX at 276 hp (206 kW) and a very substantial 360 lb·ft (488 N·m) of torque.[1] This was created so as to be "Grand National to end all Grand Nationals," as the next model year converted the chassis to front-wheel drive, which Buick engineers admitted would not be able to put down that much power[citation needed]. Changes made included a special Garrett turbocharger with a ceramic-impeller blowing through a more efficient intercooler and a "CERMATEL (Ceramic/Aluminum) coated" pipe connecting the intercooler to the engine. A GNX specific EEPROM, low-restriction exhaust with dual mufflers, reprogrammed Turbo Hydramatic 200-4R transmission with a custom torque converter and transmission cooler, and unique differential cover/panhard bar included more of the performance modifications.

Exterior styling changes include vents located on each front fender, 16 inch black mesh style wheels with VR-speed rated tires, and deletion of the hood and fender emblems. The interior changes of the GNX included a serial number on the dash plaque and a revised instrument cluster providing analog Stewart-Warner gauges, including an analog turbo boost gauge. The GNX was claimed as the fastest production sedan ever built at that time.

GNX #001 is currently owned by Buick and sometimes makes appearances at car shows around the US. The GNX had a ladder bar that ran from the mid-section of the car to the rear axle, so as to increase traction. This is also the reason why a GNX will actually lift the rear end up when the car is about to launch heavily.

The stealthy appearance of the all-black GNX and Grand National, coupled with the fact that the Grand National was initially released during the height of Star Wars fever, earned it the title Darth Vader Car (Car and Driver covered the GNX model's introduction with the headline "Darth Vader, your car is ready,"

Bolding is mine. I adore the GN/ GNX had have driven them in many an RP.

Tanaara hit it on the head. By today's standards, nothing to fancy stock, but tons of potential. A good buddy of mine had one capable of walking supercharged Vipers from a dig and putting some space on them from a 60 punch. Then some ass hole in Detroit decided he loved the Buick more than my buddy did...

Anyway, about ninety percent done with my character bio/car, so it will be up tomorrow evening. Still want to have one or two more RPers before we get this thing going.

OOC: I don’t think I’ve ever done a bio this horrible. What is worse is Robert has been for over four years my main RP character. Balls

Name: Robert Fortier
Nationality: None anymore (ex-Imitoran)
Age: Mid forties
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_rxMrZ46CrAY/RacdSdDnvcI/AAAAAAAAAi8/oHVqGIB8xEg/s400/clive+owen2.jpg

Robert Fortier needs no introduction in the racing world. If it has wheels, and can be driven fast, he has done it, and has a very long list of names that will vouch for him. Starting with street racing in high school, and moving up through the ranks, Robert has hosted a number of international cross country races, and participated in just as many. He also has an impressive customer list under his belt, having built cars for some of the world’s most influential automotive enthusiasts, ranging from smooth riding luxury cars to some of the fastest, flat out performance cars. His experience opened the Imitoran racing culture to the rest of the world, where cars with five hundred horsepower at the wheels are the norm, and anything slower than an eleven second quarter mile is just average. With his good friend and fellow tuner Thomas “Hoot” Gibson, Robert brought Imitoran style auto performance to its ultimate level first with Northampton Import Automotive Specialists, and then a step higher with Black Owl Custom Works.

And then he disappeared. His automotive work was a side hobby, a small passion to keep the monotony of daily life at bay. His real job was continuous operations within the Imitoran Special Forces community, be it as an actual operator, instructor, ICIA paramilitary, and even advisor to foreign militaries. Obviously, work like this created plenty of enemies, and in late 2007, faked his death. It wasn’t until the year 2009 that he allowed himself out of hiding, to both happiness and anger from his friends and family. However, it gave Robert some free time to not only work on a number of his personal vehicles, and handle a few problems.

Robert was, as to be expected, deployed to a ICIA theatre when his home nation, for lack of a better description, cracked in half and sunk into the ocean. Following the cataclysmic event, he disappeared again, living as one of the very few surviving Imitorans, keeping a very low profile, and living his life as if nothing changed. He moved first to Tarlachia, then spent a quick two months in Tanaara while setting up a Private Security Consulting Firm in the US. He now lives in Dallas, Texas, finishing up another auto performance side venture in Tanaara, with plans to relocate to Tanaara for his own odd definition of “retirement”.

The Car
http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr345/DOCTOR_3VIL/IMG_1447.jpg

Robert has always had an appreciate of BMWs, having worked almost exclusively with the Bavarian brand alongside Supras at NIAS. After the first 13 Hours Till Sunrise race in Imitora, Robert has exclusively used BMWs in all his cross country rallies, and he will continue the trend with this race.

Robert started with a Topaz Blue Metallic E46 M3, with the idea to build it into a weekend fun car/show car, and leave the real racing to a twin turbocharged M6. However, after near two years of having no car at all, and one weekend in the Tanaaran hill country with this M3, and he was hooked again.

Visually, the car remains mostly stock, sitting on a set of BMW OEM ZCP wheels powder coated a dark bronze, a Vorstiener Carbon Fiber roof, and a CSL trunk. The only visual cue that gives away the real performance capabilities of the car are the massive 295 Michelin PSCs on the rear wheels, and the black powder coated intercooler stealthily sitting behind the front bumper.

Robert worked very closely with Horsepower Freaks to develop a system for the car that would increase the power output by a large margin without ruining the drivability of the car. They settled on a custom Stage “3.5” turbo kit for the M3, running the same set up as the Stage 3, but with a larger turbo and more aggressive tuning on the level of the custom, one of Stage 4. A Precision Turbo PT76HPS force feeds air into the built and forged motor, feeding into a three and a half inch titanium downpipe, and out through either a four inch electrical cutout halfway down the length of the car, or through the four inch full stainless steel exhaust and Rouge Engineering Diablo Exhaust. Meth injection keeps the charge cool, and allows for the running of extra boost with the use of race gas. The turbo plumbing has been wrinkle coated black to maintain the stealthy look of the kit, and the only two objects that alert the casual observer to the performance in the engine bay are the twin HKS SSQV blow off valves and the carbon fiber turbo inlet tube. On race gas and meth, the car makes an astounding 958 wheel horse power and six hundred and fifty foot pounds of torque. A steering column boost gauge and A/F gauge monitor the vehicles performance, while a custom mounted heads up display from an E60 M5 keeps all the important information right in front of the driver

Power is put down to the ground through a KW Cup Kit and Michelin Pilot Sport Cups on all four corners, with Dinan front and rear tower braces and an HPF sub frame bracing kit, and a Dinan anti roll bar. The massive speeds the car is capable of are reined in by Brembo brakes, with slotted rotors at all four corners. The power is, amazingly enough, controlled by the stock E46 SMGII gear box, with an HPF Stage 2 Feramic Clutch, and M5 3.62 rear differential.

On the standard pump gas, with meth injection, the car will still make over eight hundred wheel horsepower, and five hundred and seventy torque. To keep this all in check, the car has been mounted with HPF’s unique traction variable boost control, offering five modes of invasiveness into the boost control system to keep the car tracking straight: Rain, Street, Sport, Race, and Off. Robert has affectionately referred to the last two settings as “stun” and “kill”. With the traction control device operating, Robert is able to keep the car in check while still boosting.

The M3 is capable of over 200mph on the open highways, while still maintaining control and poise in the twists and turns. It is, without question, a serious competitor for the race.

Just a heads up, nothing to scale. At all. Period. Drivers will be given maps to the specific routes in the morning they leave for that route, leaving them in the dark to the actual route until they are pulling out of the common parking area. Drivers have twenty hours to complete a stage, failure to do so in the allotted time will disqualify them from the race. Drivers can drop out of the race at any given time by simply calling ahead to the finish line and requesting that their time be marked DNF and not recorded.

The Route:

Day 1: Registration and pre race party. Meet the other drivers, get to know the competition and relax before the big day. A formal dress meet at the luxurious Black Tiger Hotel, with finger foods and drinks available. Entertainment is in the form of a silent auction, and a handful of manufacturers, including Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Nissan, and General Motors will be showing off their higher end offerings.

Day 2: Stage one is one of the easier stages and the initial starting stage. Four hundred and twenty three miles of wide open, mostly unpatrolled free way. Four lanes in most areas, dropping down to two or three closer to the major cities along the route. The key here is getting to know the way your vehicle will handle the roads, as I125 East is one of the poorer quality roads in the nation. The road is a medium traffic road, mostly cross nation commuters on weekend vacations. That night, racers will stay at the Water Lilly Hotel, with a party hosted by one of the local drivers. A nationally popular rock band will be providing entertainment, with the host cooking barbecue pork and ribs by the hotel pool. However, the smarter drivers will know to call it an early night

Day Two: The second stage of the race, despite being all highway and straight, is surprisingly difficult. The route is a high traffic road, with plenty of high traffic, low speed areas that will impact times. Drivers who finish early the first day will have the early leaving advantage, given them some breathing room before the all day traffic along the longer stage. At over six hundred miles, drivers will have to push to arrive before late night. Accommodations will be provided for the drivers, but early finishes will need to find their own entertainment. Most drivers would be well advised to keep it an early night.

Day Three: The third stage is a more relaxing, yet difficult drive along the coastal highway, offering both cliff and beach views over the permanently royal blue and crystal clear waters. Only drivers who choose to push the suspension and handling limits of their cars will find any difficulty in the route. That night, drivers will have access to any of the many hotels in Triton City, in a atmosphere that combines some of the best nightlife from Vegas, Miami, Tokyo, and other world cities. Parties, night time car meets, clubs, races, casinos, and the like will all be found by the drivers. Drivers will be allowed a "night off" as it were, the following day being a shorter, open route for the drivers.

Day Four: The stage four route will be shorter than the most, and the most wide open. A standard commuters route, the highway is four lines at its narrowest point, opening up to six in many. Traffic should be light, and times very good for some of the faster cars. This of course, is pre planned by the route designers, and some of the more strategic thinking drivers will call it an early night.

Day Five: Stage five is the most grueling of the routes, pushing the drivers to be at their best. Almost five hundred miles of mountainous roads will force drivers to make smart decisions, deciding if their car is able to handle the roads. Constant elevation changes, switchbacks, increasing and decreasing radius turns, blind hills, and more. Organizers feel that at this stage, most drivers will drop out and take the route slower than they would in order to hit a good time. The most challenging aspect of this stage is the wildly varying weather conditions. Accommodations are provided for the drivers at the end of the stage, but no entertainment is scheduled. The drivers are told that the next day they will get a later start in order to get a decent rest after the previous day's drive.

The final stage of the race is easy, yet challenging at the same time. The route is flat, straight open, usually unpatrolled by police, and light in traffic. It is, for lack of a better term, a four hundred and seventy five mile drag race from the end of the previous stage straight to the finish line. For the cars, horsepower and stability are the key factors, for the drivers it is endurance. At the end of the route, drivers are all invited to a post race party hosted by driver Robert Fortier, in celebration of completing the race. Times will be provided the following day to the racers.

Name: Phillip Smith
Nationality: Alconian-American
Occupation: Retired Movie Producer

http://weblogs.cw11.com/news/local/morningnews/blogs/images/macy0120.jpg

Mr Smith is somewhat of a novice to the road racing world. Or might as well be since no one in L.A. wanted to admit that their funk ride got toasted by a rusty two door caprice.

Actually Mr. Smith had become something of a feared legend around the L.A. but only as Caprice Man. Hell, he had to win. He hadn't produced a hit movie in sixteen years.

Mr. Smith however has had a recent good change of luck. Using a complex con game (which is how movies get done) Mr. Smith proceeded to get a five million dollar art house movie produced, disowned by the studio who funded it, and yet still have enough distribution to have said 'sleeper hit' proceed to bring in $320 million at the box office. He then upped his 'consulting fee' to $5 million and advised on a string of box office flops, but he still is sitting on his pile of cash.

Which explains how our intrepid Mr. Smith, now unemployed since the studio's clued into the fact that he was a one hit wonder, has the money to indulge in his old pass time again but at a much different level. Namely a custom built (as all are) tuned, and delivered Morgan AS with an V-8 carbon enhanced ceramic block and a new racing transmission from a custom shop in Germany.

http://www.morgan-motor.co.uk/sales/aeromax_images/aeromax_front_graf_web.jpg

Also included were a few gimmicks that Mr Smith, being a Hollywood type, had to have installed. Radar Pulse jammer, Laser jammer, rotating license plate, oh and the ability of the car's color to go from grey to blue grey when activated by a charge across the surface.*

*Note this feature does not work correctly because the surface has dried too much. It has a nice silver finished that sort of shimmers but it just generates a mild shock.

(My apologies but Roger Moore's spoof of himself in those movies was a favorite of mine)
