ShinyPlaces: the world's leading stadium architects

ShinyPlaces are a Kura-Pellandi stadium architecture group who have produced many major stadium designs for clubs in Kura-Pelland and Candelaria And Marquez, a large number of which featured in the 44th World Cup.

Their reputation now established, and fresh from a recent hardware and software upgrade, they are seeking international expansion. If your club is looking for a unique stadium design to help it stand out from rivals, ShinyPlaces are the go-to guys.

No stadium job is too big or small, and a wide variety of designs are possible, although the software features some limitations, of which the key ones are as follows;

* Colour is restricted to one for seats (though some sections will unavoidably display grey regardless) and one for 'trim', which includes stadium entrances and optionally the roof or part thereof. The available colours are shown here (http://i44.tinypic.com/21b57x3.jpg).
* Size is limited, to approximately 100,000, and preferably to below 80,000. This will in practice suit a large majority of clients.
* Text on stands is restricted to the main grandstand.
* Video screens cannot be placed on sideline stands, only on stands behind the goal (and even then off-centre) or in corners.
* The software is designed for, and only suitable for, soccer stadia or those of similar playing field size such as gridiron.

There's the caveats, here's what you definitely can do.

* Various sizes of stand that can be divided by walls (glass, trim-coloured or concrete), including curved stands
* Various roof designs also glass, trim-coloured or concrete. Fully-enclosed stadia are possible, but renditions may be sub-optimal
* Various shaped stadia - square, bowl, oval (with athletics track) or even a combination thereof
* VIP and media areas almost anywhere in the stadium

The attached picture, of a proposed design for a new stadium for Kura-Pellandi soccer team FC Bargoiten, is representative of the new ShinyPlaces software which is now used for all designs.

Those interested should place an order on this thread with any details they have. This will usually lead to one or more draft designs being created, following these details as the software allows. There may be some delays in busy periods, but you will be kept informed of when your design is likely to be ready.

All questions should be placed on this thread.

The City Council of Portland, Somerset (OOC: Sarzonia's financial capital and the home of the Portland Iron Works) have approved the construction of a new stadium to replace the current Iron Bowl.

The current stadium hosts the Sarzonian Football Confederation's Portland Timbers and the Sarzonian national team on match days when Bryan Marshall Memorial Stadium in Woodstock is unavailable. It also has hosted the Sarzonian national gridball side during World Bowl V when Hendrix Stadium in Woodstock was undergoing renovations.

We wish the new stadium, which will also be called the Iron Bowl, to seat 46,000 for football. We would like the stadium to be an open air stadium but with overhangs that allow crowd noise to be retained.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of this project. We look forward to hearing your feedback and possibly seeing blueprints.

Dave Wilson
Chairman
Incorporated Football Federation

[OOC: The seats should be coloured red, while the roof ought to be green, since those are the colours for the Timbers.]

I'll try and create a more extensive guide, especially once I get used to the software myself.

Sarzonia's stadium is the first to be designed, and I'll get a draft done inside the next 48 hours.

Gokcenk need an expanded home after their surprise win in the Super Lig. The stadium should be 55,000 in capacity and the seats should be Green with the text in the grandstand reading: "Uzumcu." after the chairman of the club. the stadium is to be bowl shaped (ooc: Think Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul)

Um is it possible that you could say some thinks bigger then 100,00 and just make it look like theres more and why are there some colors that can only be used for one or was that just the guide playing visionary tricks either way due to most of our stadiums being to big and stuff there is a possibilility we could have nedd for smaller ones for the lesser teams and such, but can you make the pictures im guessing they are of already made stadiums and such that have not officially been given to certain companies as theres as most of ours our just seat numbers because we make them big. 3 billion people cant exactly have 100,000 seaters, but theres also the fact of size and really by now im just rambling on and should end it right now.

Would you be interested in designing the new "Kingfordian Repubic Arena" It will be used as a venue for sporting events and as the venue for our bid to host the 9th WorldVision contest.

It should seat 200,000
What would be your price?

The Iron Bowl, Portland, Sarzonia
Capacity 46,220 (including 1,000 executive box seats and 40 media seats)

http://i43.tinypic.com/15x8rnk.png

The stadium's 'Iron Bowl' name is reflected in the bowl-like shape of the stadium. An all-encompassing green cantilevered roof keeps the elements at bay for fans but not the players.

http://i43.tinypic.com/dm78g1.png

Two continuous tiers of seats surround the field of play, which is suitable for both soccer and gridiron use. The tiers are separated by a glass wall and the executive boxes, and the upper tier features additional seating and a small media area along each sideline. Additional glass walls maintain the uniform profile of the stadium, and affords views of urbanised Portland.

----------

As requested, a simpler request form, as devised by Demot.

* Stadium type (oval, square, bowl, combination (describe))
* Capacity (max 100,000, preferably below 80,000)
* Tiers of seating
* Seat colour
* Roof (none, painted, glass, concrete) (add details if desired)
* Video screen (if any)
* Text on sideline stand (if any)
* Setting (rural, suburban, inner-city)
* Any additional details

------------------

The next design to be executed is for Koseli Cumhuriyetler, and should be ready tomorrow. Hopefully, Demot's Dynamo Park (as requested over IM) will be finished then also. Sunday will be an impossible day for me to work on, but the next week will be more manageable (though still busy - things will calm down significantly by the middle of the following week).

Uzumcu-Arena-Gokcenk, Koseli Cumhuriyetler
Capacity 55,040 (including 300 executive box seats and approximately 100 dedicated seats for journalists

http://i40.tinypic.com/30bcygo.png

The huge three-tiered main grandstand has almost 20,000 seats in three tiers, and proudly bears the name of the club chairman. It is topped by a distinctive 'shell' shaped roof, which provides some shade for fans but keeps the airy feel of the stadium.

http://i39.tinypic.com/2ak9t8l.png

The stadium has an athletics track around it and the first tier of seats are at a shallow angle. The two-tier secondary grandstand includes the media seating area (not visible in this shot). Broadcasters may wish to use an executive box for their coverage, but can use this seated area to not be detached from the fans.

With the Autocracy looking to host international football again for the first time in many a long year we would like to ensure that all visitors to the nation get to experience matchdays (and their teams’ inevitable victories!) in the finest setting possible.

Consequently the FAH are interested in commissioning ShinyPlaces to completely renovate the Hyppodrome (national stadium) in Hypocrium.

* Stadium type: Oval (a bigger version of Porto’s Estadio Dragao has always been the inspiration)
* Capacity: 100,000
* Tiers of seating: Considering the size, probably three
* Seat colour: Blue (with white trim)
* Roof: Glass
* Video screen: Either end (a la that very nice Iron Bowl)
* Text on sideline stand: n/a
* Setting: Inner-city
* Any additional details: The Imperial Box (like the royal box at Wembley, level with touchline on second tier). Usual executive boxes and press facilities etc. It’s football all the way so absolutely no running track!

We look forward to your reply regarding this project.

(OOC: And great work on the two previous stadia KP!)

OOC: Great work on the Iron Bowl! Very much like the image I had in my head for the Iron Bowl!
Bluth Corporation
21-02-2009, 17:01
With the increasing popularity of drum & bugle corps in Bluth Corporation and renewed interest in the Bluth Corporation National Football Team, the Newport Beach Tourism Association has voted to renovate the existing Vanguard Memorial Stadium to better accomodate the crowds drawn by the activity, especially the annual World Tour Finals.

DETAILS

Type: Bowl
Capacity: 95,000 (ooc: bigger than Camp Randall!)
Tiers of seating: 3
Seat colour: Blue
Roof: None (this is a drum corps stadium!)
Video screen: Two, one each corner on one of the longer sides
Setting: Suburban
Additional details: No luxury boxes, one press booth at top of side opposite the one with the video screens. Seating rows should be as steep as possible for maximum height

OOC: What are you using to create these?
Kura-Pelland
21-02-2009, 17:48
OOC: I'm using the stadium editor in a soccer management game, FIFA Manager 08. (I always like to use 'international' words for sports and not call one sport 'football' as it confuses everyone. ;) )

IC: The Bluth Corporation and Nova Hypocria stadia are being planned and should be ready within the next few days (some delays likely). Dynamo Park will be ready tonight.

It should be noted that due to the huge capacities of these two designs, the design may be a little 'generic' although attempts at variation will certainly be made.

(OOC: there's limits to the number of rows on a stand in this editor, and no workaround that I know of.)

Following years of using the Round Table, the Nicksia Knights have announced their intentions to upgrade their facilities with a new stadium dedicated to the founding father of the Incorporated States.

After being impressed by the workmanship on the new Iron Bowl in Portland, they have commissioned ShinyPlaces to construct a brand new stadium. The stadium shall be called Mike Sarzo Stadium.

DETAILS

Type: Bowl
Capacity: 77,910
Tiers of seating: Three
Seat colour: Green
Roof: Retractable; Navy blue colour
Video screen: Two large video screens at each end of the stadium
Setting: Waterfront
Additional details: If possible, a statue of Sarzo can be erected at the main entrance to the stadium. If the program you're using doesn't allow that, I'll just mention it in RPs when I use the new stadium.

Dynamo Park, Skyhaven, Demot
Capacity 67,320 (including 600 executive box seats and 40 seats in the media booth)

http://i44.tinypic.com/2e2fcp1.png

A dramatic venue for a dramatic capital, Dynamo Park's massive main stand soars into the sky. Players enter from underneath a huge two-tiered corner stand which joins stands behind the goals and along the sideline, while being distinct from both with a small gap for natural light left by the discrepancy in design.

http://i44.tinypic.com/11rtabq.png

The opposite corner is empty save for a video screen, providing a dramatic view of the city. The corner at the other side of the sideline (right of this shot) is also empty save for a video screen, allowing for the two-tier stand in between to stand alone with its own design independent of the rest of the stadium. The two-tier end-area stand also has a distinctive upper tier and roof.
Pacitalia
25-02-2009, 05:35
The Federazione Futabolensa Pacitaliana has now raised the capital required to build its planned stadium in Timiocato, which will host Blue Foxes' home matches at all levels of the national team structure, some track and field events, large concert events and public speeches. League football cup fixtures may also take place at the new stadium, which will be called the SuperStadio Repubblicana.

Timiocato's new stadium will be one of the largest in the country and we would like to offer a contract to ShinyPlaces to build Pacitalia's new home ground. It seems most appropriate we commence construction on the new stadium now, as we honour the Blue Foxes for their recent triumph at AOCAF25.

Sincerely,

Ramón Mina
President and commissioner, FFP

Stadium type: Oval/elliptical with break at one end
Capacity: 98,000
Tiers of seating: 3
Seat colour: If possible, blue on 3rd, red on 2nd, green on 1st; if not, all-white or all-gray
Roof: Open-air
Video screen: One at each end
Text on sideline stand: Superstadio Repubblicana
Setting: "Downtown" (Timiocato) waterfront, with skyscrapers and greenspace adjacent. At the open end of the stadium, if possible, a view of the water.
Any additional details: Luxury suites, running track
Iglesian Archipelago
25-02-2009, 16:31
The Iglesian Football Federation (FIF - Federação Iglesiana de Futebol) has planned the construction of a new stadium, which will host Futebol Capital de Los Vientos' home matches (despite will also host some sports not related to football), and the name of the new stadium wil be called "Estádio-Complexo de Los Vientos".

The new stadium will be one of the largest of the Iglesian Archipelago and we would like to contract ShinyPlaces to build this new 21st century stadium.

- Stadium type: Oval
- Capacity: 70.000
- Tiers of seating: 4
- Seat colour: Purple on the 1st and 3rd tiers and white on 2nd and 4th tiers
- Roof: Glass dome
- Video screen: Four (one at each end)
- Text on sideline stand: N/A
- Setting: Campo Central district in Los Vientos (surrounded by greenspaces, leisure areas, etc., everything 21st century-style, except the city centre, which is like RL Prague city centre, the background, along with the sky)
- Additional details: a clock on the entrance, running track. On the greenspace surrounding the stadium, several modern sculptures, with many trees and fountains. Again, 21st century-style.

Vanguard Memorial Stadium, Newport Beach, Bluth Corporation
Capacity 96,340, including 60 spaces in the media booth

http://i44.tinypic.com/2zin7ty.png

It's simple, it's almost monolithic, but it's nothing if not atmospheric.

http://i44.tinypic.com/2lk87xi.png

It's even more intimidating in this close-up. The whole of the stadium has this three-tier design, with at least 30 rows of seats in each.

OOC: video screens have an annoying habit of not working with oval-shaped stadia. However, the above pics do not contradict the design :) Also note that the very largest stadia, above about 85,000, are likely to be as monolithic as this, though I'll try to vary things slightly...

It's been a mad week, but I should have more time now, because that week is done and my exam results suggest that some of the pressure is off me - I only need either my dissertation or my summer exams to go well, so I can prioritise and actually have some leisure time :)

The Hyppodrome, Hypocrium, Hypocria
Capacity 99,590

http://i43.tinypic.com/xf4u95.jpg

An enormous and spectacular rebuild of the country's national stadium symbolic of the country's return to international sport. Almost no expense has been spared; there are even blackout windows on some executive boxes for the ultimate in privacy. The roof is suspended on huge pillars, allowing natural light to flood into the stadium.

OOC: this was actually some technical problems with handling the ridiculous number of textures this stadium used, I think! But it creates a nice storyline!

http://i40.tinypic.com/nwzv4k.jpg

The 'Imperial Box' is a highlight of the stadium, and the roof continuity breaks here for an arch, allowing the location of the box to be clearly discerned. What, you can't see the arch from that angle? It's because it's that high up.

OOC to Bluth Corp. - of course you can use it and I don't mind! :)

Mike Sarzo Stadium, Nicksia, Sarzonia
Capacity 77,910

http://i43.tinypic.com/v4utk8.jpg

Replete with four video screens and a wall of glass to let in views of Nicksia's waterfront district, this three-tier bowl is the height of modernity, but this is a stadium in touch with the past. The main entrance boasts a statue of the founder of Sarzonia, after whom the stadium is named. OOC: couldn't add it in the editor, but put a long tunnel with the idea that the statue could be placed inside that, or outside the stadium. Your call.

http://i44.tinypic.com/2l9o2sg.jpg

The retractable element of the roof is made of glass, in order to allow natural light onto the field of play. This improves the quality of the pitch, and also means the floodlights are not always required during daytime closed-roof matches, reducing the stadium's environmental impact.

*sighs at trolls*

I'm working on your stadium now, Pacitalia, but I'm not going to be able to pull off the 98,000 capacity with an open end, although by pulling off a clever trick or two I can come close... I'll post what I come up with. I'm still learning all the limitations of the software myself; it's not as flexible as Google SketchUp, but a) it's not made by an advertising agency I distrust and b) I know how to use it and can produce good-looking stadia quite quickly :)

One of those limitations is that you can only have two separate lines of text with a 15-character limit, and I think the only colour is white (which incidentally is a regression from the previous incarnation of the software, where any colour was possible). So Taeshan won't get 'Blu and Pink Tornado' in, but 'Go Blu and Pink' on one line and 'Tornado' on another would work :)
Kura-Pelland

This post will be edited in with screenshots of the Superstadio Repubblicana, but I feel the need to warn Pacitalia - and everyone else - of a totally bizarre anomaly in the software, namely that video screens don't seem to work for oval/track-and-field shape stadia. I know! :|

Still, it's an omission of a detail which can be mentioned in RP anyway. :)

I did my best, though still had to significantly deviate from the proposal. I do, however, believe I have produced a stadium which is in itself effective and pleasing and can make Pacitalia happy :)

As you can see, the rendering of fully enclosed stadia rather fails, as 'glass' roofs still tend to lack transparency. But note the huge expanses of glass throughout the stadium, providing views here across a city park.

OOC: this was a nightmare to do, but hopefully you like it despite all the deviations from your submission I had to make!

This, I think, is much better ;)

Griffin Stadium, Pawtawket, Prux
Capacity 67,800

http://i41.tinypic.com/2q2fibp.jpg

A distinct mix of blue seats with green and white trim makes this inner-city stadium stand out, especially on aerial photos of downtown Pawtawket. Capacity is provided for an almost excessive number of entrances and exits for the highest levels of safety and security, which is considered essential in a nation with a wild degree of cross-cultural variation.

Stromco Municipal Stadium, Presco-Stromgarden, Lurikastan
Capacity 85,822

http://i40.tinypic.com/1196t1k.jpg

A three-tier bowl suitable for various purposes including multiple sports and open-air concerts, Stromco Municipal Stadium features extensive executive box and media facilities with a double-deck executive box area strung across both sidelines into the corners, and a large media gantry across the whole of each sideline.

http://i43.tinypic.com/142wrut.jpg

Perhaps the stadium's biggest distinguishing feature, though, is the large glass-and-billboard wall atop each endline stand, held up by circular pillars and supporting a small elegant double-arch roof on which the video screen is held.

Can I just say your bullet remark made me laugh far harder than it should have done? And it inspired me to produce your stadium very quickly - I had an idea and it just came out while I thought of it! And here it is...

The Dome of Death, Rolling Dead
Capacity 74,600

http://i41.tinypic.com/ej63p5.jpg

Distinguishing feature: military-grade roof materials, complete lack of natural light. This stadium also makes a very good shelter in case of nuclear attack.

Anyway! Taeshan! Normality! Now that's a novelty.

East Lealand Municipal Park

A triple-deck horseshoe dominates the stadium, with red-because-the-editor-lacked-pink trim evident throughout...

...on the side uncovered by the horseshoe, though, are two large video screens and a huge single-deck stand with a towering wall to hang those team banners from. This stand is practically on top of the field, so the atmosphere from this stand is fantastic.

West Lealand Area Stadium

A triple-deck square bowl (mm, that sounds like a sandwich) with yellow trim and it's-supposed-to-be-orange-damnit seats. And frankly cute floodlights.

http://i44.tinypic.com/2lbnklk.jpg

The stands behind the goal are where the big screens are. Note here the walls above the lower deck, with entrances to the stadium. This is also a walkway, where no doubt fast food vendors will operate and do a roaring trade.

Spekatkl-3-Arena, Qasarian, Baltic Federation
Capacity 85,100

http://i40.tinypic.com/2vds7zo.jpg

This stadium is unique for consisting of three distinct tiers that almost exist as separate structures in their own right, linked to each other by only slim supporting pillars. The resulting gaps offer views of downtown Qasarian on either sideline, and also feature extra lighting that can be directed towards the field, fans or even the area behind the stands.

http://i40.tinypic.com/2vwia77.jpg

Along the bends of the track (behind each soccer goal) there are yellow walls to provide a sense of security (they are not strictly needed for structural purposes, but a video screen can be installed on them, or they can be used for banners, adboards or anything you like) and movable roof sections (this shows the roof partially extended, the previous picture shows it retracted). This allows light levels to be controlled for the best field conditions, as well as providing shelter if needed to reduce the probability of winds above 2m/s for athletics world record purposes should one ever be threatened at this venue.

OOC: Even most Brits don't realise the Wembley field can't be fully covered, and that this is in fact the only sort of movable roof that stadium has!

Valeneska National Stadium, Sarenaski, Valeneska
Capacity 91,000

http://i42.tinypic.com/2pq1ag9.jpg

A three-tier design, but almost a two-tier design really - the bottom tier is very shallow, and the rest of the stadium is propped up upon it by pillars. The players enter from an underground spiral staircase (not shown) into a transparent tunnel and finally the stadium itself.

This shot gives a more all-encompassing view of the semi-transparent roof, with yellow accents.
Pacitalia

With the recent success of FC Segadors Bergamants in the LFP's premier division and a vast resurgence in fan support and interest in the Bergamo region (population 1.9 million), and with Segadors' leasing rights to their current stadium expiring on 1st April this year, the owners of the Segadors club have opted to commission a new home ground for the club.

The new stadium will succeed, as Segadors' home stadium, the 37,630-seat Stadi Hereu Marqués in the Lapurde district of the city. Hereu Marqués is a multi-purpose stadium and will continue to be used for gridball and rugby matches and tournaments.

Parc Esquerráls (Parchè amba Sinistrata)†
Location: Bergamants (Bergamo), Baix-Empordà (Empordia Bassa), Pacitalia

Capacity: Anywhere between 50,000 and 55,000
Tiers of seating: Two, I guess
Layout: Football-specific rectangular
Seat colour: Yellow
Trim colour: Red
Roof: Retractable glass
Video screen: One, doesn't matter where
Text on sideline stand: n/a
Setting: Inner-city, on reclaimed ground near the "Barri Antic" (old quarter), so if it's possible to show older (14-16th century) buildings adjacent, cool. Otherwise, it's across from the Bergamants-Estacions train station and a good-sized public park.
Any additional details: If it's possible to hang a massive flag up somewhere in the stadium, a IRL Catalan flag, which serves as the apertural flag of Baix-Empordà in Pacitalia, will suffice. Don't worry about it if you can't.

( † Note: The stadium's official name is in Empordan, not Pacitalian. The Pacitalian versions of the stadium, city and aperture names are listed just for reference cos that's what anybody outside Empordia would call them, and OOCly, some people on NS are not familiar with the Empordian language. )

Very simple yet dramatic. A running track is installed around the ground.

I must say, these fully-enclosed stadia annoy me OOCly because they never render well... but I'll give Pacitalia's a go! :)

Parc Esquerráls (Parché amba Sinistrata), Bergamo, Pacitalia
Capacity 53,890

http://i43.tinypic.com/ptz47.jpg

A distinctive design to serve as a regional symbol as well as a popular club stadium, the stadium opens out to the historic city surroundings, making it clearly a part of the city and by implication region.

OOC: this was the best I could manage in terms of an urban background not dominated by skyscrapers. I think it looks OK. Also, I haven't rendered the closed roof, as it wouldn't show up as in any way 'glass-like' - see my other closed-roof designs.

http://i44.tinypic.com/1zfnaz7.jpg

The players enter, unusually, through a corner of the stadium (the first picture was of the view from that corner). The sections behind each goal have a distinctive design, with a very shallow lower tier and a gap to the city. Suspended below the upper tier are luxury boxes, which could be easily used for business purposes. Again, the stadium's potential status as more than a stadium but a regional symbol is realised.

Just to inform those who are interested in a ShinyPlaces design of the limitations of the software:

* Colours for seats and trim are limited to these (http://i44.tinypic.com/21b57x3.jpg). Yes, it annoys me too.
* The maximum capacity is approximately 100,000. Slightly smaller stadia are significantly more likely to be interesting.
* The editor really, really doesn't render closed glass roofs well. At all.
* Video screens cannot be placed on oval stadia. Yes, it annoys me too.
* The only screenshots are inside, and external props cannot be added.

I should be able to at least try to do everything else requested from this form:

* Stadium type (oval, square, bowl, combination (describe))
* Capacity (max 100,000, preferably below 80,000)
* Tiers of seating
* Seat colour
* Roof (none, painted, glass, concrete) (add details if desired)
* Video screen (if any)
* Text on sideline stand (if any)
* Setting (rural, suburban, inner-city)
* Any additional details
