World Baseball Classic TEN sign-up/host bid thread
"Play the World, Beat the World"
WBC
10
It is about that time of year again.
When winter begins to dump massive amounts of snow, where warmer climes start to offer lucrative travel packages and the first crack of a bat sounds somewhere.
It's time for the WBC to come out of its hibernation once again!
As before, many nations will compete, but only ONE TEAM will take home the Gold medals (as shown below):
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/55/World_baseball_classic_2006_championship_gold_medal.jpg/800px-World_baseball_classic_2006_championship_gold_medal.jpg
Will Qazox win their 3rd consecutive title, matching Az-cz' record, and surpassing Az-cz with a 4th overall title?
Will Newmanistan, Taeshan, or Liventia win their first after many near-misses?
Will Milchama end their slide and get that 3rd title?
Can Zwangzug get a 2nd title?
Or will there be someone else emerging from the depths to claim victory?
There is only one way to find out, and that is to participate in the 10th World Baseball Classic. Sign up today and receive a free WBC homer-hanky!

Qazox' Bid to Host WBC 10
Previous Major Tourney Hostings: WBC's 1, 4 and 5, World Bowl IV, World Cup of Hockey 7.
Scorinator: The same one I have used in WBC's 4 and 5, also is the same one Green wombat used to host WBC 7.
Venues to be used:
Preliminary rounds:
Ox-Cola Field, Fromburg (39,178)
Hastings Park, Rockport (43,907)
Estadio Munincipal, Cuidad de Iguana (40,000)
One Tree Bank Park, Las Vitas (38,623)
2nd round:
Saxerdome, SaxerVilla (70,000)
National Stadium, Fromburg (37,989)
Final Round:
Pheonix Stadium, Qazox City (58,145)
Depending on the number of signups the stages will be as follows:
4 groups of equivelant number of teams (ie: 4 groups of 5, 4 groups of 6...)
Double-round robin for Preliminary rounds, with the top 2 teams from each group advancing to the 2nd round. The groups will be assigned by Ranking, with an effort to have each group be as equitable in ranking as every other group. If there are enough sign-ups, then 12 teams will qualify for the 2nd round with most likely the 3rd placed teams advancing.
The 2nd round will see the 8 remaining teams play in 2 single-round robin groups, with all efforts to be made to ensure no teams from the same preliminary group are in the same 2nd round group. The top two teams from those groups (based on 2nd round record only) will advance to the final, with the 2nd placed teams placed in the 3rd-place series.
The final will be a best 3-of-5 game series, with the better record 'hosting' Games 1, 3 and 5. The 3rd place series will be a best 2-of-3 game series, with the better record 'hosting' games 1 and 3. (By better record, I mean the team's combine preliminary and 2nd round record)
If an odd number of sign-ups occur (ie: 21, 23, 25...) then the preliminary groups will be made as even as possible, with an effort to have each group be as equitable in ranking as every other group. Depending on the number of groups, the top team from each group, and a TBD number of other teams will advance to the 2nd round, where 8-to-12 teams will qualify, depending on the number of signups.
Overall, a mininum of 40% of teams or 8 total teams will advance to the 2nd round, which ever amount is greater. (ie if I have 25 teams, 10 will advance)

West Newmanistan
21-01-2009, 07:20
Pending Qazox's approval, I would like to add West Newmanistan.
There is a regional story behind this nation being RP'd. To make a long story short, it's a haven for Newmanistanians who want to get away from the rule of the Empress. Now, why I am making things more complicated for myself when in the real world I will get much busier in March, I do not know. But this seemed like a logical step for this country, given the basis of its formation.
The nation's efforts therefore, will be RP'd. it will not be a traditional puppet that just sits around.

What's the deal with puppets? Can we please avoid them or limit them to the regulars for now?
Lurikastan
25-01-2009, 02:51
The reason i used one of my puppets is because baseball is the National sport in the Yorozuya + it isn't in Lurikastan. Its still big though.
Also at this time Lurikastan announced that the Black Devils of Lurikastan would also be attending.

25-01-2009, 03:39
San Castello signs up to the WBC and makes a bid to host the games.
(My old nation has participated here a few times (The Indonesian States))
By the way is there a place to get baseball uniforms?
I believe Tocrowkia can do that if you ask in discussion thread and give colors and stuff, that reminds me...

Ask Tocrowkia.
As for PUPPETS, They'll be a reserve if we don't make mininum team requirements (or if we have an prime number of sign-ups ie: 29, 31, 37...)then they'll be added as needed.

Can we assume Patetopia has no serious bid?
I'm attempting to be fair.
With Mantwenic's sign-up we have 24 teams (not including puppets) If no-one has any serious objections as to why the puppets cannot compete, I'll have qualifying tourney for the puppets to get a 25th team in (So there will be Five groups of 5 teams in the qualifiers). With 25 teams, The top 2 teams from each group will advance to teh knockouts, along with the 4 best 3rd place teams, for a 12-team knockout stage.

The way I see it with Patetopia:
There's about a 1% chance he puts together a serious hosting bid. (no offense meant)
There's about a .00001% chance that if he did, he would win.
But I'm a firm believer that if you say a man has until Feb 6th to do something, then he gets to Feb 6th unless he withdraws his intent.

Well he has until 2/2.. not 2/6... (only reason why i'm not cutting it off Sunday is the Super Bowl... Go some team from a State with the letters A and N in it!)

(OOC: This is a completely in-character post since West Newmanistan would likely see Newmanistan and Qazox as "allies", and the current tension between Newmanistan & W. Newmanistan).
OUTRAGE
The West Newmanistan baseball team has received word that unless some miracle happens, that their application to participate in the World Baseball Classic will be denied unless there is some crazy turn of events that will probably not happen.
"We are pissed," said would-be manager James Conners, "We have been practicing hard and the players excited to represent the country, and now we are being told that we are not going to be allowed in all probability because of some strange rule regarding nations on strings. We all know what this is really about. Empress Jessica is responsible. She has obviously worked a deal with Qazox not to allow us to be a part of it like the corrupt ruler that she is because she doesn't recognize us as country. Everyone knows that Newmanistan and Qazox are on good terms. There is a backdoor deal being made here, and it absolutely disgusts me. Down with the Empress! Down with Qazox!"
OK. SIGNUPS are closed!
The WBC10 thread will be up shortly.
The group draw will also take place tonight as well.
