That is a lot of car companies, even for a big nation. You are still a small nation of 8 million. My country currently has 50 million people and I wouldn't put half that many car companies up. A lot of nations have a good automobile industry.

Also, you shouldn't use already existing names. I think that it would be better if you came up with your own car companies. You can base your cars off of already existing cars, but don't give them the exact same name.

Its a common mistake for a brand-new nation to make, though usually it's done with weapon systems rather than automobiles.

Astholm: NS and Real Life are two separate entities in that Volkswagen, for instance, does not exist on NS, as such. NS countries that have companies famous for making cars may use images of VWs for reference, but reel off that list of companies to any Starblaydi citizen and they'd look blankly at you as they would never have heard of them.

I'd recommend that you use the Automobile Manufacturing industry as a starting point to develop the unique culture of Astholm with their own companies, brands and types of car, etc. Do Astholmians (?) build a lot of cars because of a history of engineering in the nation, or because they like motorsport, or because it's a big flat country (barren and inhospitable) where cars are a necessity, or some other reason, or a combination of all of those and more?

It's a good start, just refine it a little and you'll be well on your way.

The nation is a parody/calque name of Axholme, in Lincolnshire. The automobile industry is there due to the large size of the country (almost as big as East Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire in the United Kingdom combined!)

Automobile manufacturing began when the distributor of a car maker decided importing was too expensive. Cars are needed to get round the large country anyway.

As for the motor manufacturers, these are almost the same as their real-life equivalents.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but as far as I can see that would infact make your country quite small. My home state of Massachusetts for example would be some twice the size as it. That doesn't mean that your county can't still love cars, but in my opinion, the factors in your country (small and fairly high density) would make it a perfect place for a large mass transit development, although I'm half saying that because I'm a railfan and mass transit fanatic myself ;)

It's big for the United Kingdom... we do have islands offshore as well too.

Truth be told, automobile manufacturing is a part of my country too and I should work out a few more of the companies, but I have a few things for me on the queue before that.

And I'd say that at least until his country gets a really massive population and all of the cities are huge, if there are multiple cities and more than a few miles between them, cars would be useful for getting around. Most countries would have buses and that kind of thing, but if people could get cars, they'd want them if it was popular or important to visit other cities.

Well done, please don't hijack his thread.

And? It's his country.

From York to Cambridge is a fairly small distance in the grand scheme of things, it's true, but we don't all have to wave the e-penis of how large our imaginary countries are, now do we? Often the nations with least-boastful claims are the best-RP'd.

It's difficult to RP a country of any fixed size when your population grows at a consistent rate throughout its life.

I remember when I felt Starblaydia needed to expand (on the Atlantian Oceania map) for population reasons, as the population had doubled from 150 to 300 million. Since then, it has gone up to over 10 billion, and they're still living on the same amount of land.

Sometimes it's just easier to have a fixed notion of what your country is like in your mind, and RP it to that, only consulting the NS.net population stat when you need an actual number.

Our local makers (partial list of our 40+ makers that are local) are:

Aston (built in Aston near Burlingham, hence the name Aston!)
BSG (sport-tuned Chevrolet and Opel cars)
Celsan (rebadged Hyundai's, also a model name for a car here too!)
Fiat-Sabruz (Fiat cars made in Sabruz region; some rebadged Alfa Romeo and Peugeot products too)
Ford Kuhlsan (founded by former employee of Ford, with name used under licence) (P.S. Is it licence or license?)
Galbriz (some products rebadged, starting new designs via research program)
Holmwood
Holpran (currently selling rebadged Mazda saloon cars, Mazda and Chevrolet minivan/MPV and Chevrolet/Nissan off-roaders, developing own products soon)

If you want info on any of our manufacturer's products just ask. We will export to your nation as you want.
Iglesian Archipelago

In the Iglesian Archipelago, we have six high-quality motor manufacturing companies (these companies all make cars moved with solar energy or hydrogen):

- Carplane;
- Ferreira & Costa;
- Morais;
- Intermotor;
- SAURS;
- SAPF.

In the Iglesian Archipelago, we have more some car manufacturers, but only these six have great quality in making cars.
Van Luxemburg
10-01-2009, 16:36
(OOC: As Starblaydia says, having an automobile manufacturing industry can really add to your culture. Van Luxemburg, for example, exports their motor vehicles to dozens of nations around the world, with VLT Automotive Group N.V. being the largest entity, producing billions of cars every year. The automobile industry in VL is the core of their 'Petrolhead Society', with most of the citizens owning cars, despite of a well-developed public transport system. And don't even think about taking down Van Luxemburgs' no speed limit Autobahns, or you'll have almost the complete Grand Duchy after you.

But remember, becoming one of the largest automobile manufacturers here takes time and effort. I'm not trying to advertise myself here, but this (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=554076) should give you a bit of an idea of the time and effort that goes into developing a large automobile manufacturing industry in your nation. At least, that's how I'd do that, I'll leave it all up to you.

EDIT: Oh, and SEAT has it's own model line nowadays. It's no longer making FIAT and VW clones, even though they are of course built on VAG platforms, like Skoda, Audi and Bentley also use (some) of those platforms.)

In the NS universe, SEAT do make Fiat and VW clones though...

Anyway, Astholm's automotive industry is willing to negotiate the export of its cars to your nations (do I start a new thread in International Incidents for this?)
