The Region in and around New Bruxen will be filled with cheers, jeers, crashes, speed and medals as the First Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival nears its opening ceremonies.
A staggering 42 events will have medals, in the lead up to next year's Olympic Games in Kelssek. While the majority of competitiors in the Olympics will not be making an appearance in Qazox, many of Qazox' Olympic team members will take a trip up Route 15 to the oft-neglected areas of Northern Qazox.
We here at QBC will bring you live coverage of many events and the Gold medal finals of all events LIVE, either on QBC or MSQBC.
Jeruselem

Kaye Dallas, Oksana Passinova and Handiskya Renee Roshina Kanisov had arrive in Qazox for the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival. Due to the total lack of any real winter in Jeruselem, the winter sports were restricted to indoor ice skating. Only women took it up due to the perception male ice skaters were all Gays. The three girls turned up to a welcoming crowd organised by the Dallas Fan Club due to Kaye being a Dallas.
Kaye was an ordinary looking girl without the sex appeal of a normal Dallas. She was more experienced of all the girls but the least talented. Technically sound but not the most creative of the girls on the ice.
Oksana was quite pretty but a bit skinny. Although talented she had a fragile personality and was prone to breaking down under pressure. The most creative of the girls and can be spectacular at times but also prone to major mistakes.
Young Handiskya had a mature body for her age and wasn't called "Little Dazza" for nothing. She always gave 150% and never gives up the fight. The most excitable of the girls and her personality wins over crowds.

THE ROCKET REPORT
ATHLETES PREPARE FOR QAZOX SPORTS FESTIVAL
Pocono City, Newmanistan- Shortly after bringing in the New Year, several Newmanistan athletes will be heading to Qazox for what is essentially a preparatory competition for the main Winter Olympics which will be taking place in Kelssek later this winter. They are used to seeing the sky blue and white in Qazox, and they weren’t about to get away with not seeing it in their Winter Sports Festival. However, Newmanistan’s participation is generally going to be limited. The Empire will be sending two curling teams, one of each gender, as well as entrants in the luge, and in short-track speed skating. Of course, you cannot forget about women’s figure skating, either. There is an imbalance towards female athletes, which was the result of a misinterpretation of the sign up rules, as Empress Jessica explains, “We misinterpreted what was provided to us. We thought the numbers, at the time, that were next to each event were a limit on the amount of athletes that one nation could send to the event. It turns out, that number actually represented the amount of athletes that had already signed up for the event. Since there had been more female entrants signed up to that point, we signed more women up, which created even more of imbalance for the Festival, actually. It turns out we could have added more men. We apologize to those athletes that felt they were left out.” So why didn’t the Empire go back and change their entry after the error was discovered? “At that point we just felt as though we stay with what we did to avoid further confusion.”
The Rocket Report will provide more information and results as the Festival goes on.

The athletes from Bears Armed chattered excitedly amongst themselves as they got off of the plane: only a few of them had been abroad before this, and even fewer had ever flown before...

National Winter Sports team heads to Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival.
By. A.L. Cruse
Early this morning a Oiseauian Winter Team landed in Qazox prepped and ready to compete in the local Winter Festival. Unlike the team training to compete in the Olympics, the Qazoxian bound athletes were all chosen based on their status in the Aui Training Centers with a necessary requirement of also attending a Oiseaui University.
The team sent to Qazox will be competing in 16 events total; some of the events chosen were due to the nations lack of experience however the Sports Commissioner also decided to send both a male & female to compete in the Luge, the Oiseauian National Winter Sport. This is of course the sport with the highest expectations, however, many commentators have stated that due to the athletic international isolation the chances of a Oiseaui win do not look all that high.
Win or lose, this festival is now the 3rd publicly announced international sporting event to occur in Oiseaui in many decades. It may take time to cultivate the Oiseaui international teams but this is most definitely the first necessary step.
Expect event by event news next week.
Sarzonia

Brian Hundley had done a number of things en route to Qazox, but one thing he never had much time for was practicing holding the Sarzonian flag.
He would have to get his "practice" in front of a large audience at the opening ceremonies. The Sarzonian athletes assembled voted him as the flag bearer. The flag shook slightly as one of Sarzonia's bobsledders walked with the flag flying high at the head of the delegation.
The athletes followed Hundley in double-file with cross country skier Marlie Benson flanking Hundley. "You're doing fine," she whispered to Hundley. He whispered a hardly convinced "thanks" back, trying like heck to make sure the flag didn't flop around in the breeze into the stadium.
Alvin Nottingham, one of Benson's teammates on the mixed four-by-five kilometre relay looked around with wide, wondering eyes at the magnificence of the stadium. Qazox's rich sporting history included a large national stadium which the locals spared no expense to construct.
Except for Hundley, all the Sarzonian athletes looked up when they saw Qazoxian air force fighters flying overhead. Security was an issue here, all the Sarzonians knew that. Hundley figured he would be watched over, but some of the younger athletes, including figure skater Tim Jensen, were particularly nervous about the presence of military aircraft.
Finally, it came time to put the flag in its appointed spot as the various national anthems began to play. When the heavy guitar rock of Sarzonia's anthem "Freedom" began to play, right hands touched gently onto chests. One of the attendants for the Sarzonian delegation caught a quick glimpse of a Qazoxian usher reacting with bemusement over the aggressive sounding anthem. He wanted to explain the tie-in with Stevie Nicks but figured there might be a better time for that.
And even if there weren't, tough cheese.
Unified Beretania

Beretanians ready for Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival
Albavona, Unified Beretania- An embarrassing controversy erupted when one overzealous staffer tried unsuccessfully to register five female figure skaters when Unified Beretania’s selection committee couldn’t decide on the three skaters they wanted to send to the upcoming Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival. Many wanted Olympic bound Cathleen Kim, Kitti Lori Vang and Katie Yang to represent Unified Beretania, but up and coming stars Amber Fong and Chrystalee Kwong remained popular enough to muddy the results during committee voting. In the end, Kim, Fong, and Kwong were accepted.
Despite the mixup, most everyone is ready to go and eager to put the misstep behind them.
“It’s showtime. We have an opportunity to make a good impression before we head to Kelssek for the Olympics, and we really should be focused on making the best of things while we’re here in Qazox,” Kim told reporters yesterday.
For Kim, this is the first test of her ability on the international level, a golden opportunity to perfect her performance and add all the finishing touches to her routines before Kelssek. For Fong and Kwong, this is a chance to show that they too are capable of making a future Olympic team.
On the men’s side of figure skating, there really wasn’t much of a debate for the selection committee as there isn’t much depth these days in the talent pool. Corey Morgan, Elray Santos, and Bob Noble all were selected to represent Unified Beretania unanimously.
The only other athletes Unified Beretania will be sending are Branden Donaldson and Colleen Bryd in the Snocross 25k Ice Track event.
Unified Beretania's slim participation is largely due to potential athletes preparing for the Olympics as well as financial restrictions. But the small delegation has the support of Unified Beretania National Olympic Committee president Sofia Waldeck.
"I think this is a great opportunity to develop talent on the international level, and though these folks don't have the funding our Olympic athletes do, maybe with exposure, participation can expand in the future. I encourage participation on all fronts, not just what we do in the Olympics," Waldeck said.

NOTE1: In OpenField events, The racer with the fastest qualifying time leaves last. The other racers leave in inverted qualifying order, based on time behind the best qualifer. (ie: if the last place rider was 15 seconds behind, they'd leave 15 seconds before the best qualifer).
NOTE2: Both of Qazox' riders qualifying times for the 10k were used for the 15k qualifiers, since it was on the same course, and having them ride it twice would have given them an unfair advantage.
NOTE3: The 1.5km qualifying run was 3 flags placed in an equilateral triangle, each 500 meters apart and racers had to go either clockwise or counter-clockwise to reach all 3 flags.

Joe Garner looked dejectedly at the scoreboard. Unlike many of his compatriots, he finished poorly in his event, the 10K Snocross. Six of the other eight competitors finished ahead of Garner.
He walked slowly toward the room where Sarzonians were gathering to discuss the results. He saw people high-fiving and hugging Mike Wilson, who'd come in first in his qualifying event. He knew none of that was forthcoming for him. He slowly grabbed a paper cup and poured himself some Gatorade.
Meanwhile, other results pouring in showed more successes. Alpine skiers brought in first place finishers for Matt Moore and Laina Carlson in the first of two runs. Nate Churchill and Brian Hundley brought silver medals for the two-man bobsled team, plus the Sarzonian curling side won its opening match, 4-3.
"Typical result for Sarzonian curling," someone said with a laugh, remembering when Sarzonia was one of the most defensive-minded teams in an Atlantian Oceania curling competition some years ago.
Day 3 of the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival would bring more excitement, perhaps some gold for the Sarzonians. But Day 2 was definitely exciting in its own right. Unless you were Joe Garner.

First Day Results of Qazox Winter Festival In
By. A.L. Cruse
After arriving in Qazox to compete in the national winter festival, there had been high hopes amongst Oiseauian people. The team, while formed quickly, contained the best college athletes in the nation and while internationally Oiseauian sports had been stunted, nationally sports was the pride of the nation. This would also be the first international team to compete since the ban was lifted.
However after Day 1 of the Festival things do not look so bright. In curling the Oiseauian Men's team was to face Sarzonia. Sarzonia has been an international competitor for many years and while skip Mark Rasmussen had high hopes he knew they would be a worthy competitor. One so worthy that today they left the Curling team defeated 3 to 4. This team of Curlers had been competing together in national competition for years, they had swept the curling circuits and were without question the best group of men in this sport. Many sports commentators are noting that the failure seen today is due to stress, the stress of competing for the first time on an international scale; the stress of no longer beyond "number 1." If this is true this writer looks forward to seeing an upward progression for the team from this point on.
The other disappointment in the sports world today was seen by in the Men's 2-man bobsled. Bobsled brother team, The Isaacs (Ken Isaacs/Kirk Isaacs) had gone to Qazox to prove that they were undisputed champions of Bobsled a title which they had held for 2 years in Oiseaui. Today in sports though their ego was handed back to them on a platter of despair and disappointment. Finishing last in the event, the brothers were only able to muster a meager time of 1:57.14 after two runs. This disappointment though is more of karma finally hitting the brothers after years of unsportsmanlike conduct and egotistical behavior often unseen in Oiseauian athletes.
The one light today was found in the Men's 4-man Bobsled. While the women's team ended up finishing last, the men's team finished in second with a time of 1:55.41 after two runs. Originally seen as the underdog they've proven that they were the right choice to send to the festival and now all of Oiseaui sits hopefully behind them.
(ooc to Oiseaui: You do know that the Bobsled has FOUR runs total right? your just last halfway through...)
(ooc to Qazox: Yes I am, hence the reason I said Oiseaui sits hopefully behind them... i.e. The entire nation is waiting to see what happens next, hopeful for a positive response.)
The 1st 3 Gold medals (and to an extent the first 3 silver and bronze ones, but we all 'bout da' BLING-BLING, a'right?) are due to be awarded soon, so RP cutoff is now. Day 2 results up shortly.

MSQBC QWSF Recap
A good 2nd day as Qazox picked up 2 medals, both Silver in the Downhill, but a lousy day on the Bobsled track as the team of David Schuls/Victor Seriang slid going around the next-to-turn on the final run, dropping them into 5th place in the 2-person Men's bobsled. Sarzonia was the big winner of the day, winning all 3 golds up for grabs today. Sarzonia's last medal of the day came from Nate Churchill/Brian Hundley's win in the 2-man Bobsled, just edging out Lovisa's Christoph Langen/Gunther Eger by 0.10 seconds while Myedvedeya's Nikolai Pencherkov/Slava Sukhovksy and Oiseaui's Ken Isaacs/Kirk Isaacs tied for the bronze.

Qazoxian Winter Festival Results prove to be another disappointment
By. A.L. Cruse
While some say medaling at all is great, Oiseaui has always prided itself on its athletics so after today's Qazoxian Winter Festival results the sports fans of the nation proved to be less than enthused. Finishing with one Bronze medal, Oiseaui redeemed themselves after yesterday's Curling and proved they were still a team worthy of international competition. However when asked for an interview, Rasmussen still declined.
Instead this reporter went to Sports Commissioner Vince Dobson:
ALC: Thanks for interviewing with us Commissioner Dobson.
CVD: The pleasure is mine.
ALC: While the Qazoxian Winter Festival has only gone on for two days, how do you feel thus far about our performance?
CVD: Well, I'm proud of our boys in Curling. Yesterday was a disappointment, the first international sporting event we've competed in in decades and we lost. However, I feel that today they've redeemed themselves and considering their the first step in a grand direction they should be proud of themselves.
ALC: And how do you feel about the Isaacs brothers' performance in 2-Man bobsled?
CVD: Lets be honest here, those boys have always proved more of a nuisance than anything but today they too redeemed themselves and while they didn't medal at least they didn't come in last. I suppose they saw your last article and had a broken ego to clean up.
ALC: Hah! What do foresee for this competition, do you think this upward success will continue?
CVD: Murphy's Law dictates as soon as I'm positive we'll have the floor whiped with our noses so instead of making any predictions I'm just going to wish our guys and gals luck and hope that they bring home the Gold. Lets face it... we've been away from international sports so long that it was silly for us to come in and expect to run away with it all. It's opened our eyes though and you can bet that regardless of what happens this year, next time we'll come back stronger and better for having learned what it is to lose.
ALC: Well thanks Commissioner, here's a good luck to our athletes.
CVD: Indeed.
Our athletes also competed in a Mogul Exhibition. For those die-hard fans out there Todd Olivo finished with 25.65, and Veronique Carlos finished with 22.81.
Cross your fingers Oiseaui, and wish our athletes good luck as they try to further establish our nation in the international world of sports.

Alpine skiers Matt Moore and Laina Carlson walked back into the room where the Sarzonian delegation to the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival assembled after the day's events and heard a lot of applause and celebration.
They each brought home gold medals for the Sarzonians in the country's first extended foray into multi-event competition. So did Nate Churchill and Brian Hundley in the two-man bobsled. They narrowly defeated a Lovisa pairing by one tenth of a second to capture the gold.
"Hip hip HUZZAH!" "Hip hip HUZZAH!"
Sarzonians gathered in the centre of the room and celebrated by hopping up and down as if the collective team had just captured the overall championship. After a few minutes of high fives and hugs, the team finally settled down to eat dinner.
Standing by and watching this unfurl was Mike Wilson. No, he wasn't as dejected as Joe Garner was just the day before, but piling on top of each other and celebrating, especially before the final event, was not his scene. He watched with a detached smile as even Garner joined the celebration. Garner was not going to be considered an outcast among his teammates, even if his results were nowhere near as successful as the three gold medalists.
As for the curling team, they brought a 2-0 record into Day 3. The team barely missed out on advancing past the qualifying stages of the Atlantian Oceania curling competition hosted by Pacitalia, but this team seemed to score at just the right moments. Still, defence seemed to be the Sarzonian calling card in what normally is a rather high scoring sport.
Looking up at the leaderboard, the athletes could see that Sarzonia currently led in gold medals and overall medals with three. They all began to feel a little pressure to keep that success going and cart home some hardware for the nation to feel good about as it started to make the Great Isolation and a deep and painfule economic recession a memory.

MSQBC QWSF Recap
Qazox got it's first gold of this festival, as John DeAngelo edged out Tocrowkia's Stefan Könnecke by 0.39 seconds. Könnecke started almost 2 full seconds before DeAngelo, but by the time the two men reached their first checkpoint, they were neack-and-neck. Könnecke used great strategy, follwing DeAngelo to every checkpoint, therefore setting up a sprint back to the finish line. DeAngelo's snomobile was just a bit faster as both reached the finish in great time (11:31.86 to 11:32.25). The fastest qualifer, Perrarn ar Perrarn o 'Prydwern' of Bears Armed took home the bronze.
On the Bobsled track, Qazox just lost out on a 2nd gold today by 0.02 seconds as the team of Nikolai Pencherkov/Slava Sukhovsky/Pasha Kurayin/Vladimir Volyodov from Myedvedeya took the gold in a total time of 3:49.84 to Qazox' time of 3:49.86. The suprising news was the Oiseaui women's team, who finished in 5th, but set a new track record in their 3rd run.

Mixed emotions were felt after the SnoCross finished. On one hand, Stefan Könnecke did finish second, gaining a silver medal and the Reich's first medal overall in the Qazox winter games. On the other, Katrin Herrlein finished dead last. The young woman declined the opportunity to speak to reporters after the event finished, and instead stormed off back to her hotel room to sulk. Most Tocrowkians are still anticipating the beginning of the snowboarding events however, especially the performance of Snowboarding sensation Keira Sylar.
When we asked her how she was enjoying her stay, she nodded and proclaimed. "It's a really beautiful country, Qazox. But I'm not letting anything distract me from what I came here to do...and that's win."
Sarzonia
04-01-2009, 22:05
Sarzonia's athletes didn't get the results today that they did yesterday. It was hard to top the three gold medals they got on Day 2 of the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival.
Except, of course, for the Sarzonian curling team. They picked up their third win in as many matches, this time against the Bears Armed women.
During their only previous curling competition, the Sarzonians barely missed out on qualifying for the second round of the Atlantian Oceania Curling Championship. They won three of six matches during qualifying. This time, they've won all three matches and currently sit at 3-0.
"We're pleased to be doing this well," said Coach Patrick Conway. "Curling is considered a niche sport in Sarzonia. For us to sit in first place right now is a thrill."
Sarzonia's next match is against the Newmanistan women, who are tied with the Qazox men's team for second place at 2-1. However, the host nation's men's side is in second place by scoring differential. That fact means little, said skip Mathew Renney.
"They're a good side," Renney said. "We need to play well to win this match, like we've had to play well to win each of the matches before this."

Qazox gathered together 3 more medals today, giving them a total of 7 so far in the festival. A gold to Walter Asimov, who dominated the Giant Slalom, despite having the worst of the final runs, he edged out Lovisa's Peer Svindal for the gold. Erica Deneen had the best 2nd run which moved her into the bronze, but Ilya Ivanovitch Solyekov of Myedvedeya finally got a gold in his 3rd try, easily winning the Slalom by almost 2/10ths of a second.
In the 15k openfield event, Wendy Avica finished nearly last over a minute behind the winner, Mike Wilson of Sarzonia. John DeAngelo had the fastest time through 5 of the 7 checkpoints, but an engine failure on his way to the sixth checkpoint left him out of the race and his chance at an open-field double was ended.

Mike Wilson staggered off his snowmobile after his run. To say he was exhausted would be to make a massive understatement. Sarzonia's Health and Athetics Department officials had to support Wilson as he slowly made his way inside to watch the results.
He felt pessimistic about his chances of winning after that final run. The Reich's Kristin Riethmüller was hot on his tail and he figured he'd lose some time to her over a tough stretch of space. When he walked in and saw the results, he collapsed to the floor in tears.
However, they were tears of joy. He'd lapped the field, earning Sarzonia's fourth gold medal of the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival. After he was helped up to a seated position, he accepted congratulations from teammates of all sports.
Even Sarzonia's 6-5 loss to Newmanistan's women in curling didn't dampen Sarzonian athletes' enthusiasm over Wilson's victory. They eagerly looked forward to the medal ceremony when the jarring rock guitars would play the Sarzonian national anthem and raise the navy and silver of Sarzonia's flag higher than those of the Reich or of those sentient ursines.
As for the curling team, their first loss after opening the competition with three straight wins did not sit well. A controversial call by the Taseshani born referee in the 10th end resulted in Newmanistan's women earning the sixth point and sending Sarzonia to the loss.
However, Sarzonia could have rued other chances to score, for example, in the third inning when Sarzonia missed a chance to stretch its 3-1 lead to 4-1. The Newmanistani women took advantage of the Sarzonian gaffe to cut the lead to 3-2, but more importantly, they stole momentum away from the Sarzonian team.
Sarzonia's next match would be against the Qazoxian women, a match skip Mathew Renney called "vital."
"We've got to bounce back from this loss," he said. "Otherwise, we're in big trouble."
Even though the Qazox women are currently 1-3 and Sarzonia is 3-1, the team to a man said the match would be important. After all, the team is coming off its first loss since Milchama knocked them out of the second Atlantian Oceania Curling Championship in Pacitalia. Coach Patrick Conway called the team's response the most important aspect.
"We're not worried about records here," Conway said. "We're more worried about how we focus as a team and how we respond to adversity." He said he would not protest the outcome of the match against Newmanistan in spite of his arguing during the match.
"What's done is done," he said. "We missed our chances to put them away. It never should have gone down to that last inning."

In the actual match races, the winner of the first race will start ahead of the 2nd place skater by the amount of time difference. If the winner of the 1st race wins the 2nd race, they win the gold; if the 2nd place skater wins, then they will race a third time, with the winner of the 2nd race on the inside position. If either skater falls during any of the 3 races, the other skater will automatically win that race.

MSQBC QWSF Recap
Quite a busy day 5 today as the Luge and ShortTrack speedskating events began today.
In luge, No Qazoxian luger particiapted, but with Newmanistan have multiple entries in the events, they are almost assured of at least a podium finish in those events.
On the shortrack, Brian Kinser (Newmanistan) has impressed the crowds so far, easily winning his qualifying heat in the 500m, and having great times in the 1000m and the 4x750m relay. But Qazox's skaters did just a bit better, as
Joseph Mikal set a new Qazoxian record in the 1000m as did Dorothy Jensen. Denise Rubens failed to qualify for the Medal race in the 500m but the 4x750m relay team set a new world record with a time of 2:25.713; the old record being 2:25.836, set just last year by the same team in the Qazox national championships.
On the 10k Snocross Track, Stefan Könnecke avanged his close loss to Ryan DeAngelo by edging DeAngelo on the final turn of Lap 5 and beating him by 2 lengths for Tocrowkia's 1st gold at these games.

Short track speed skater Bonnie Salieri woke up on the morning of Day 5 competition and promptly ran into her bathroom to throw up. She was normally nervous on the day of competition, but this was over and beyond.
After spending several minutes bowing to the porcelain god, she stood up and looked in the mirror. She looked like someone who'd caught a massive virus. She wasn't feeling well at all.
She almost decided to call her coach and beg out of competing in the 500 kilometre qualifying race. She figured golds, silvers or bronzes were worth nothing compared to her overall health. But she decided she'd get her uniform on and her clothes and see where that took her. After taking her shower, she got dressed thusly.
When she got to the site of the competition, she ran into the women's athletes' restroom and threw up again. And again. Finally, though, she asked a Qazoxian doctor for some legal medication she could take to help her fight this sudden sickness off. When she found some, she took it.
Within 15 minutes, still feeling like shit, she lined up to take her spot and start the competition. Then, a funny thing happened. As soon as the starting gun fired, she sliced ably through the ice and felt better than she had all day. She knew what it was: Once the adrenaline kicked in, it pushed the virus aside.
That didn't prepare her for when she looked up and saw that she'd won the qualifying heat and advanced to the finals. Even though her adrenaline had run her course by then, she felt a little bit better. She knew whatever medicine the Qazoxian doctor gave her must have started to work.
As for medicine, the Sarzonian curling side seemed to have found whatever it was and it bounced back from its loss to the Newmanistani women by defeating Qazox's women 6-3. After taking a 4-0 lead after the third end, the Sarzonian team held on.
As for Joe Garner, his nightmare of a Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival came to a merciful end when he finished fifth in the 10K snocross final. He knew he'd have to get back at it once he returned to Sarzonia for the next winter competition. Hopefully then, he'd do better.

THE ROCKET REPORT
LUGE FINALLY UNDERWAY
Qazox- Ahhh, yes. Now finally we have stuff to inform you about from the Winter Sports Festival being played in Qazox. Yes, we could have devoted an entire article to curling, but that wouldn’t have been enough. One of the most exciting Winter Olympics sports began last night, and that would be the luge. The Empress was rather disappointed in the poor turnout from other nations from this competition, and we are guaranteed at least one medal simply by showing up. Some of the early results haven’t been that great, but now that our athletes know the course, look for them to shine when the pressure is on. Said Ashley Dagenais, “The course was a little unfamiliar, but now that we’ve learned it we all feel that we will make up the time that we need to and that we will pick up several medals in these events, and not just because we’re showing up, but because we performed well.” Fellow luger Pascal Lamoreux was very disappointed in the turnout, saying, “So the four of us are ready to go, I look at Olivier and we see the people from two other countries and it was really appalling. How could only four people participate? It was a major letdown, I came here looking to compete against the best, but now if I win a medal it won’t feel like I’ve accomplished anything. No disrespect meant to Olivier or to Jens or Andy. I think all four of are still wondering when they other twenty or so people will make their run.” Olivier Desjardins commented, “The bobsled is the more sexy sport, unfortunately. Real men and women do it solo. Luge is ten times more difficult then the bobsled.”
Elsewhere, we’ve seen the preliminary races begin to take place in short track speed skating, and even hear the fields aren’t the greatest. In the men’s 500m for example, there are just two people. Newmanistan’s Brian Kinser and Qazox’s Mike Quinlan. Instead of racing a field, like you would want to see, these two men are confined to heat races against one another. “It’s a slap in the face to Mike and I.” said Kinser. Now for that curling, our women are 4-1 and the men are 2-3.

LUCK RUNS COLD FOR BEARS IN QAZOX
Our contestants' performance in the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival continues to be underwhelming. Neither of the Curling teams looks at all likely to medal at all, apparently being the best in NorthPort University's inter-Hall games doesn't make you worth much the inter-national scale, and so far the only medals that we have are three Bronzes from 'Snowcross' events. All of our Snowcross entrants are not only students at NorethPort U, they're candidates for members in the 'Cold Warriors' society too, and that organisation's war-leader had this to say_

MSQBC QWSF Recap
Day 6, the unoffical half-way point of the Sports Fesival was today as the Snocross field events ended. A crash on Lap 4 in the 15K track, caught up Barran o GreenRiver, Blarzh Far-Rubert, Ryan DeAngelo, and Arin Little, which allowed both the Tocrowkia riders to pull away, in what had been a close race. Mike Wilson of Sarzonia finally got his 1st medal, edging out Barran o GreenRiver for the bronze.
In luge, Newmanistan won 4 of the 6 medals, including both golds, as they look to the upcoming Olympics to dominate.
On the shortrack, Jessica Coventry of Newmanistan set a new World Record in the women's 750m with a time of 1:02.162, beating the record by almost a half second. In fact all 4 skaters broke the old record. In the 4x750m relay, Qazox set another World Record, edging out Newmanistan for the gold by about 4 feet.

Good news and bad news. Bad news first, of course. In the 10k SnoCross final Katrin Herrlein finished dead last again. The 20-year old was obviously extremely disappointed and once again declined to comment. And now for the good news! In the same competition, Stefan Könnecke got revenge for his close second place finish to Ryan DeAngelo by edging out the other rider to seize his first gold medal, and second medal all together in the games. "Obviously, I'm very excited. It was really hard fought, right until the end. But I'm happy I was able to get it done for my nation."
And in the 15k Track, the Reich seized two more medals as it's riders got both the first and second place spots. Daniel München & Kristin Riethmüller, whom we both interviewed were quick to point out their concern for their fellow riders, as a crash caught up pretty much everyone else. "I just hope they're all right." Daniel said. Kristin nodded in agreement, saying "You obviously want to win when you go out there, but you also wish everyone else well. And for something like that to happen isn't good at all." She was of course, happy that she won her second medal of the games though!

Sarzonia picked up two more medals in Day 6 of the inaugural Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival as Mike Wilson secured bronze in the snocross 15K track and Sarzonia's mixed 4 X 750m relay speed skating team also took third.
The news for the Sarzonian curling side was bad, however, as the host Qazoxian men rallied to defeat Sarzonia 6-5 by getting two stones in the ninth end. Sarzonia could only answer with one in the 10th. They needed two to tie and three to pull ahead.
Meanwhile, Bonnie Salieri finished fourth in the women's 750 metre short track speed skating qualifying competition, one day after falling ill, but winning in the 500 metre qualifying run.
"I felt better today than I did yesterday," she said. "I also wasn't as nervous for some reason. Perhaps I need to lose my dinner for me to do well here? I don't know."
Sarzonian doctors denied rumours that Salieri came down with food poisoning, saying Salieri's illness was the result of a "nasty" virus they said she caught from a spectator.
"I knew I shouldn't have gone into [the stands]," Salieri said.
Sarzonia currently sits in second place in the overall medals table, but retains its gold medal lead with four golds in six medals. Host nation Qazox leads the overall medal count with nine medals (three gold, four silver and two bronze.)

MSQBC QWSF Recap
Day 7 and Qazox's lead atop the medal standings were trimmed a bit thanks to 4 Newmanistan medals in shorttrack. 2 golds and 2 silvers for them while Qazox got 2, although the men's 500m and 1000m had only 1 Qazoxian and 1 Newmanistani skater in each, so those medals washed out.
Curling:
Qazox Men v. Oiseaui

Maybe Bonnie Salieri should get sick before a major competition more often.
According to Sarzonian and Qazoxian team doctors, Salieri suffered flu-like symptoms before the final race of the 500K speedskating competition. Salieri said she vomited "four times" just an hour before the race and "basically had to threaten to "yank the balls off" Sarzonia's team doctor to allow her to compete.
When the starting gun sounded, Salieri started slowly, but poured it on late, catching Newmanistan's Jessica Coventry with half a lap to go and figuratively turning on the jets to capture Sarzonia's fifth gold medal of the Festival.
After she returned from the medal platform, she headed to the trainers to get medication and some chicken soup.
As for Sarzonia's curling team, they routed Bears Armed's male ursines 4-1 to finish the qualifying round with a 5-2 record. However, they earned the No. 3 seed as a result of head-to-head tiebreakers favouring both the Qazoxian men and the Newmanistani women. Even though Sarzonia had the highest point differential of any of the three teams in the bracket, they were the No. 3 seed, meaning they would start the championship bracket by facing Oiseaui, whom they defeated 4-3 on Matchday 1.
"We're not even thinking about that," skip Mathew Renney said of their rematch against Oiseaui. "We're just focusing on one match at a time. We're not worried about how the tiebreakers work. Fact is, we lost those matches to those teams."
Oiseaui finished the group stage with a 3-4 record and were the lowest seed to have a positive point differential, scoring 34 points and allowing 32. Meanwhile, Sarzonia led all other curling sides in scoring with 37 points and allowed the fewest with 27.
However, Renney said none of that matters.
"You lose one match at this stage, everything good you did goes out the window," he said. "Our goal now is to win the gold medal, period. Anything less is a disappointment."

Beretanian skaters ready to make magic on ice
Qazox- They have spent countless hours perfecting their routines in preparation for the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival. They’ve put on fundraising events in the heart of Albavona just to raise the money to get here. They’ve resisted the voices in their heads telling them to turn back because they just might not be good enough to make it on the world stage. They have sacrificed much for this opportunity.
For Cathleen Kim, this is one last warmup before heading to Alvaria, Kelssek and the Fourth Winter Olympics. Perhaps she can take some much needed momentum with her if she performs well. For Chrystalee Kwong, Amber Fong, Corey Morgan, Elray Santos, and Bob Noble, it’s as much about national pride as it is making a case for consideration on a future Olympic delegation.
Now the time has come. This is it. Beretania’s figure skaters have to show the world what they’re capable of or go home empty handed.
“I’m going to use this opportunity to test myself and get my confidence up for Kelssek. It’s definitely a challenge, I’m going to give it all I’ve got,” Kim said. Kim is the top ranked ladies figure skater in Beretania.
International competitions such as this are key places to showcase ability for future endeavors, and Beretanian figure skating officials will be in attendance to see firsthand how Kwong and Fong in particular do.
“I’m extra nervous because I’ve now got all this pressure on me to impress the Olympic scouts. I’m not even worried about winning a medal because I don’t expect it. I’m just concerned with placing well enough in the standings when it’s all said and done,” Kwong said.
But before the ladies take to the ice Friday night, Santos, Morgan, and Noble will have the first crack at the preliminary round tonight. Kim, Kwong, and Fong all plan to take the day to enjoy themselves before focusing their attention on tomorrow’s opening competition.
And in addition to men’s ice skating, qualifying for the men’s Snocross Icetrack 25k is being held today, in which Beretanians Branden Donaldson and Colleen Byrd are participating.
Donaldson and Byrd, roommates and students at Century University in West Westworth, have entirely funded their own entries in the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival.
“You know, we’re just a couple of crazy, fun loving college kids and we’re the best of friends. We both love to race snowmobiles, so I kept thinking to myself we have nothing to lose. It’s fun just doing something in the spur of the moment,” Byrd said.
Unlike Beretania’s figure skaters, who have limited funding from various figure skating organizations (but still require additional funding), most other athletes in almost every sport have no funding for international competition outside of the Olympics. Just being here is a sweet accomplishment in itself.
“I had to put in quite a bit of hours of overtime just to help pay my way to get here. I’ll see what I can do, but don’t expect any medals. We’re just doing this for the fun of it,” Byrd said.

In the men's 1500m shorttrack, Harold E. Smith and George Gould of Sarzonia had a classic battle, with each man winning in the first two races, setting up a 3rd and final race to determine the champion. Denise Rubens however alomst slipped twice during the 750m final and finished a disappointing 4th.
On the Long track, Qazox had a rather good day in qualifying, as Tiffary Stoer and Paul Hayens each made it to the fianl pair in the 1500m, Hayens will start there as well in the 5km, while Stoer will be in the 2nd pairing for the 3km.
The snowmobiles took to the ice today and Li Sun-Pak will start on the front row in all 3 events, while her teammate Nathan Zyfs will start in the 2nd row for the 10k and 15k races, and the back for the 25k.

The quarterfinal matchup between Sarzonia and Oiseaui in the curling competition was a rematch of the first Matchday. Skip Mathew Renney and everyone else involved with the Sarzonian team said the results of Matchday 1 would have no bearing on the quarterfinal match.
They were right. At least in part.
Unlike the first match when Sarzonia (6-2) barely escaped, this one was a far more dominant performance, with the Navy and Silver leading 6-1 heading into the ninth inning. Even though Oiseaui scored the last two points of the match, they basically made the score look more respectable.
Sarzonia's next match is against the Bears Armed men, whom Sarzonia defeated 4-1 on Matchday 7. The Bears Armed men defeated the Newmanistani men 5-3.
The Bears Armed women knocked off the tournament's second seeded Qazox men in a back-and-forth battle that only ended when the host country's skip Mike Reginald fouled on his last throw.
The top seeded Newmanistani women easily defeated the eighth seeded Qazox women 5-2 and get set to face the Bears Armed women. Sarzonia's two losses in the tournament came by one point each against the top two seeds, but Renney said the team wouldn't take Bears Armed's men lightly.
"They're a number five seed for a reason," Renney said. "They also beat a good number four seed from Newmanistan. It's going to be a tough match, but then again, we expect each match at this stage to be tough."
As for the other results, Bonnie Salieri and George Gould each brought home speedskating silver medals for Sarzonia. Gould engaged in a pitched battle with Harold E. Smith of Qazox, winning the first race in a best-of-three before dropping the final two. The final results gave the Qazox the gold by less than a second. However, Gould said he was proud of his effort.
"Harold Smith is an excellent competitor," Gould said. "I think we both gave the crowd their money's worth."

Noble and Morgan turn in good numbers, ladies up next
QAZOX- It turns out the spirited college girl just out having some fun, is off to a great start in the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival. Colleen Byrd topped the field in the SnoCross 25k IceTRack event. The result was a pleasant surprise to all but Byrd’s closest circle of friends. However, Byrd was quick to caution that this was only qualifying.
“Colleen is just amazing. She’s doing what she loves to do, and I’m really proud of her. She can do whatever she puts her mind to,” close friend Amanda Ting said.
Ting said she found out about Byrd’s top qualifying after getting a phone call from Byrd. TV networks in Beretania aren’t airing live coverage of the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival, and a taped delay of all Beretanian participation thus far will be aired this afternoon, including Byrd’s performance.
Byrd’s close companion and fellow Century University student Branden Donaldson didn’t fare so well, finishing sixth out of eighth in qualifying.
“He’s like a brother to me, so it’s kind of like disappointing to see him finish that low, but we’re doing this for the fun of it, you know? We’re out here enjoying life,” Bryd remarked shortly after qualifying finished. Donaldson declined to comment.
In men’s figure skating, Elray Santos left much to be desired, finishing last in the preliminary round. Fortunately, Bob Noble and Corey Morgan turned in decent scores, and Morgan topped the preliminaries.
“I’m pretty satisfied with my performance and as long as I stay focused, I’m pretty confident in what I know I can do,” Morgan said.
Next up for the trio is the men’s free skate which takes place tomorrow. In the meantime, focus will shift to the women’s side of figure skating as the ladies short program gets underway this evening. All eyes are on top ranked figure skater Cathleen Kim and with the attention, comes expectations of Olympic caliber performance.
“I know I have a lot of fans out there, and I don’t want to let anyone down. I want to show them that I’m ready for Kelssek. You know, everything in my life is coming together right now and I’m doing things now that I could only dream of before,” Kim told reporters in a phone interview yesterday.
“And I don’t want this to be all about me either. Chrystalee and Amber are here too, and I’m sure this is the biggest moment of their lives as well,” Kim said.
Fans won’t be able to see tonight’s ladies short program live, but a taped delay will air the following day.

Tough night for ladies, Kim mediocre
QAZOX- It was no surprise that Cathleen Kim had the best night of the Beretanian ladies figure skaters. Yet Kim finished dead center of the skaters that advanced to the final. That’s not the result most fans were hoping for. To compound matters, Chrystalee Kwong barely made the cut, taking the ninth spot in the finals. Cathleen Kim and Amber Fong were fifth and sixth respectively following the women’s preliminary round.
“I credit the immense talent that we were up against. It’s nice to be humbled every once in a while. I’m hoping to rebound in the final,” Kim said.
The results might even instill a hint of doubt in Kim with the Winter Olympics in Kelssek looming on the horizon. It’s important to stress however, that there’s still the free skate to come, and that’s an opportunity to make up for the underwhelming performances of our lady skaters.
Kwong and Fong were the subject of a harshly critical eye as they were both being scouted as potential future Olympians. And the pressure is not going anywhere. The Olympic scouts will be on hand for the final. For Kwong, those Olympic dreams may have been all but dashed unless she can turn things around. But Fong just about matched Kim’s performance, and even that isn’t exactly encouraging news.
“It could have been better, but what are we supposed to do? Mope around feeling sorry for ourselves? That’s not what I intend to do,” Kwong said.
Realistically, Kwong will essentially have to be flawless in order to reverse her luck. And Kim and Fong will have to step it up a few notches. To be fair, this is the first international competition that any Beretanian figure skater, male or female, have seen. And all things considered, Kim’s fifth place out of fourteen in ranking after the short program is respectable. It’s just not enough to be a true contender.
Allyson Murray and Kelly Bianchi, both of Newmanistan, were second and third respectively in the standings. That’s the kind of strong showing everybody wants, the kind that Beretanians were hoping for. While there is no lack of respect on the part of Kim & Co. For their Newmanistan counterparts, our girls are most certainly questioning their own ability to match the skill displayed by Newmanistan.
Hopefully they’ll take the day to regroup, clear their minds, and get focused for the final.

Princesses in ice make impact in figure skating in Qazox
Two of Jeruselem's figure skaters made the top 9 in the figure skating in the Qazox Winter Sports Festival today. Young Handiskya was unlucky finishing 10th and could not join her teammates. Oksana Passinova lead the way for our girls with an impressive 4th spot while Kaye struggled in 8th.
Handiskya made too many mistakes and they were enough to nudge her out of the top 9 behind Chrystalee Kwong from Unified Beretania. Kaye Dallas didn't really impress but her lack of errors allowed her to scrape into the top 9 scoring and she fights on for another day. Oksana impressed for someone who lives in a country with a lack of water and ice, and showed she was a real contender today.
Athelwarma o Errhabarra from Bears Armed lead the girls as the current leader but two girls from Newmanistan are looking are real competition. Unified Beretania has all three girls in the top 9 still and cannot be discounted. Nancy Grayson is Sarzonia's lone girl in the top 9.
Still, the scores were tight and any of the remaining girls could win. Given Jeruselem's total lack of winter sports, we are doing well with our girls showing the world they can do their thing on the ice as well. Young Handiskya might not have made the grade today but she's only 14. She'll just get better with age and experience like the more famous Handiskya with first name Dazza.

Revenge.
Even though Sarzonian curling team skip Mathew Renney wouldn't say it, revenge was on the mind of his teammates. The Newmanistani women, whom Sarzonia would face in the curling finals of the inaugural Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival, were one of just two teams to defeat Sarzonia during the group stage.
The Rockets delivered Sarzonia's first loss of the competition after Sarzonia started 3-0. The loss, coupled with a loss to Qazox's men, ensured that Sarzonia would be seeded third in the tournament.
"We had to focus on the Bears Armed men's team," Renney told a reporter after Sarzonia defeated the male ursines 7-5 to clinch a spot in the gold medal match. "Newmanistan's women weren't on our minds at all."
Both of Sarzonia's losses in curling came to the teams ranked ahead of them in the standings, which Coach Patrick Conway said was a source of concern.
"We were able to defeat teams that ended up lower than us in the standings," Conway said. "However, we're 0-2 against the two teams ranked higher than us. That's going to have to change if we want to bring the gold home to Sarzonia."
As for gold medals, Sarzonia lost its early lead in gold medals as host nation Qazox now has six to Sarzonia's five. Newmanistan also has five gold medals. Sarzonia currently sits in a tie for second place in overall medals with 11.
Sarzonian men's speed skater Fred Johnson claimed a world record in the first run of the 500 meter long track speed skating competition with a time of 34.65, a full tenth of a second faster than Qazox's Paul Hayens. Sarzonian cross-country skier Connie Sanderson finished the 7.5 kilometre pursuit with a silver medal and a time of 22:01.6 as Bears Armed's Olga o Thuleann took the gold medal with a time of 21:57.8.
Farid ali-Hadani won Sarzonia a bronze medal in the SnoCross 10K icetrack final with a time of 9:41.42, 3.78 seconds behind gold medalist Li-Sun Pak of Qazox, who won with a time of 9:37.64. Bears Armed's Harrvon 'Wolfsbane' o TwistedWater took silver with a time of 9:39.65.

No a good day of Qazox as the 4x1000m relay team was beaten by 0.04 of a second for bronze, and Li Sun-Pak and Nathan Zyfs each had problems in the 15k IceTrack event. The big winners of the day was the Bears Armed delegation, as they earned 7 medals today (2 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze), to move into 3rd place on the overall medal standings.

Sarzonia's men's curling team got a rare day off. The bronze medal match would be its second day off, allowing Coach Patrick Conway an opportunity to spend more time preparing for the Newmanistani women.
For a Sarzonia curling side that barely missed out on qualifying for the knockout stages during the second Atlantian Oceania Curling Cup championship, getting to play in the gold medal match in itself was a great accomplishment. No matter whether they tasted victory or were sent to defeat, they would still come home with some kind of medal.
"It's a great feeling to know we've come this far," said skip Mathew Renney. "Still, we haven't lost sight of our goal, which is to bring a gold medal home for Sarzonia.
Meanwhile, cross country skier Mark Jeremy was able to do just that. He won the gold in the men's 10 kilometre pursuit. The Sarzonian four-by-one-kilometre relay team won a speed skating silver medal, losing out on gold by .26 seconds to the second Bears Armed team.
Those results tied Sarzonia with host nation Qazox for the most gold medals (six) and the most overall medals (14). Sarzonia has four silvers and four bronzes, while Qazox has six silvers and two bronzes.
As for the bronze medal match between the Bears Armed women and the Bears Armed men, Renney said he and his teammates would watch the match.
"It'll give us an opportunity to bond," he said. "That, and we figure we'll get a chance to discuss what we need to do to win our match against the Newmanistani women."

One-two finish for Beretanian men’s figure skaters, Kim & Co. face uphill battle
QAZOX- It was a great night for Unified Beretania figure skating as Corey Morgan and Bob Noble followed up great performances in their short programs with decent ones in the free skate. The end result was Morgan took gold, while Noble took silver. Nikolai Evgenev of Myedvedeya won bronze.
“This is such an incredible result for us. I knew I had it in me coming here to Qazox but now I can say I actually did it. And it’s just you know, it’s just- this is my moment. It’s my moment to shine,” Morgan told reporters.
The one-two finish illustrates just how serious Beretanians take figure skating, but the success of Morgan and Noble looks unlikely to be matched by Cathleen Kim, Amber Fong, and Chrystalee Kwong.
“It’s great because all of us, we’re a tight group. It was nice to see them so triumphant,” Kim said after watching Morgan and Noble medal.
Credit must be given where it’d due. Morgan had the fourth best score of the free skate, while Noble had the sixth best. Yet both hung onto leads they held from their short programs. That’s a testament to their skill. Especially when considering that Morgan and Noble generally aren’t regarded as top tier skaters.
For the ladies however, all things considered, a medal is out of reach for Kwong, and more than likely Fong, and Kim has only an outside chance at a bronze against Newmanistan’s best in particular. Kim’s underwhelming short program has fueled a wealth of speculation regarding her preparedness for Kelssek and is an upsetting disappointment to her fans, used to seeing Kim’s commanding presence on the ice.
Mistakes and average execution have constituted most of the trouble for Kim. But flawlessness in her free skate might just be too little, too late, depending on what kind of night the top contenders have.
“It would be nice, if nothing else, to leave Qazox with momentum I can bring to Kelssek. I feel like I’m ready, and at this point, I’ll take any advantage I can gain in Qazox,” Kim said.
As for Fong, her night is all about impressing Olympic scouts on hand. She has much more to gain- or lose- from tonight than Kim. An up and coming talent and Red River native, Fong is the standing West Valley County figure skating champion. And she has lofty Olympic dreams for her future. A good, error free night means one step closer toward fulfilling that dream.
Fong describes herself by saying “I’m just a country girl from the West Valley with a lot of heart and a goal.”
Those are the stakes in tonight’s ladies free skate. And with that, so much opportunity to gain.

Checking today's news ...
The Office of the First Gentleman announced today that First Gentleman Brian Patrick would make the trip to Qazox for the closing ceremonies of the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival.
"I am going to take the opportunity to congratulate Sarzonia's athletes on their outstanding performance in the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival," Patrick said in a statement. "While President Jay Tyler attends to matters of pressing importance for the Sarzonian people, I will attend as his emissary."
Patrick is attending the ceremony because Lieutenant President Nicole Lewis and Senior Vice President and External Affairs Officer Grant Haffner are both in Timiocato to discuss the current state of Paci-Sarzonian relations. Gray House policy prohibits the holders of all three senior positions (President, Lieutenant President and Senior Vice President and External Affairs Officer) from being out of the country simultaneously.
"It's a good thing for Patrick," said Neguro Santisismo, a senior analyst at the Colin Powell Centre in Woodstock. "He is learning the particulars of being the spouse of a head of state, and he will congratulate Sarzonian athletes on a job well done in this outstanding international competition."
Carter Marshall, the Vice President for Health and Athletics, announced while on travel with the Sarzonian national football side that he was pleased that Patrick would convey Tyler's congratulations.
"It's important that our government recognise the hard work of our athletes," Marshall said. "We are very pleased with the results and hope they lead to more success in the years ahead."
Sarzonia currently sits in a second place tie with host nation Qazox for the most overall medals with 18. Both nations are also tied for the most gold medals with seven. Accomplishments for Sarzonia include a world record for speed skater Fred Johnson in the men's 500 meter long track speed skating competition.
"It's great," Johnson said of his gold medal. "I'm pleased to bring home the gold for Sarzonia."
Patrick said he would take Sarzonia One to Qazox later today.

GOLD for Jeruselem at Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival
Oksana Passinova won a Gold medal for the figure skating in Qazox. Jeruselem winning a Gold medal let alone at a winter sport is something novel but it's happened. With nine fantastic girls putting out their best Oksana somehow did enough to beat them all. She scored the best score in the free skate with 148.63, not much above Amber Fong from Unified Beretania who scored 148.51. Our Kaye Dallas was scored 147.33 - meaning the scoring was incredibly tight with all girls being of high standard and no one was real failure.
On combined scores, Kelly Bianchi from Newmanistan was pipped out of Gold by a mere 0.34 points scoring 208.35 with Oksana scoring 208.69. The difference between 1st and 4th was less than one point. Kaye Dallas was 8th but she never expected a medal finish from her first score.
Oksana has Jeruselem's first Gold medal in any sport (football is not counted here with regard to Gold medals). Her Facebook was been flooded with new admirers and she's won a few friends along the way.

Fong takes home bronze
QAZOX- Amber Fong won the bronze medal in women’s figure skating behind silver medalist Kelly Bianchi of Newmanistan and gold medal winner Oksana Passinova of Jeruselem. Fong’s bronze medal finish meant that Unified Beretania had won half of the six figure skating medals up for grabs at the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival following Corey Morgan and Bob Noble’s one-two finish on the men’s side.
“This is a big day for Beretanian sports. We’re establishing ourselves in figure skating on the international level and I’m proud to be a part of that," Fong said.
What came as a surprise however is the fact that Kelssek bound Cathleen Kim was outmatched by Fong. Many see it as an alarm of sorts, that perhaps Kim is not quite ready for the upcoming Olympic Games. But Fong has nothing but praise for Kim.
“You know, Cathleen is such an inspiration. She didn’t skate her best but you know I think she’s saving everything for the Olympics. I think we’ll see more of her. Definitely, we’ll see more from her,” Fong said.
Prior to the ladies free skate last night, Kim was seen as having an outside shot at a bronze. Few gave Fong that same consideration. That makes the result that much sweeter for Fong. And she has all but accelerated her chances at making a future Olympic figure skating team, though Olympic scouts on hand refused to comment.
Kim finished seventh in the final standings, feeling quite a bit of dejection, saying she cracked under the pressure to succeed.
“I feel like I let my country down. I have to keep my chin up and remember that tomorrow is a new day. I have to get ready for Kelssek,” Kim said in a written statement released to Beretanian reporters early this morning.
What is especially hard for Kim is the fact that in Alvaria, Kelssek, Kim will be overshadowed by Katie Yang, so the added pressure to perform as well as Yang may ultimately become too much to bear.
Winning half the figure skating medals was certainly an accomplishment for Unified Beretania, and the success of up-and-comer Fong was certainly a plus, but for some, Kim’s falling short of a medal is considered absolute failure.
The third Beretanian ladies skater, Chrystalee Kwong, continued her dismal appearance at the Qazoxian Winter Sports Festival, finishing last in the women’s free skate and last in the final standings among the finalists. She too undoubtedly feels the pressure to succeed and the dejection Kim is experiencing.
In the end though, most everyone can be proud of the athletes representing us in Qazox.

MSQBC QWSF Recap
The final day of competition awaits, and Qazox has slim chance to still earn the overall medal title from either Bears Armed or Sarzonia. Tiffary Stoer has been the silver girl of the games, earning silver in 3 of the 4 events she has competed in. Can she finally win gold in the 1500m, her best event; or will she have to settle for another silver? The final event of the Festival will be the 25k IceTrack event, where Qazox has a chance to earn 2 medals. If they do earn those two medals, then they might win the overall title, but with Sarzonia and Bears Armed athletes in all 4 finals tommorrow, the chances are one of those nations will earn the most medals.

OOC: My thanks to Qazox for organising and hosting these games, and my congratulations to everybody who took part... and my apologies for not doing any RP worth mentioning during this contest. Various factors in RL unfortunately cut rather heavily into the time that I'd planned to spend in NS, and after considering the situation I decided to concentrate my efforts on the World Cup qualifiers instead...
