WorldVision Song Contest 8 (Signups, Wide Open)

Well, WorldVision 7 is almost over, so it's about time to start the next signups. For those who have never participated before, here's the breakdown:

This is baisically an NS version of Eurovision, with the same basic structure of countries selecting, performing and voting on songs. Except this contest open to countries in any region. Countries paricipating in the contest are also allowed to enter a maximum of two puppet nations.

After the signups, the contest is done through two RP threads. The first is the national finals thread, in which all countries select their songs for the contest. The second thread is the actual contest, in which all the performances (with song lyrics), votings and other RP's are posted.

Oh, and one last thing, all songs in the contest must be original. No cover versions. Parodies are okay though

Well, the song has to be at least somewhat origninal, and you have to RP a performance, or an attempt at a performance at it, with the lyrics posted.

That's about it really. You can write your song about whatever you want.
Cachette de Lions

Cachette de Lions will be participating in WV8, and will hopefully actually show up this time.

Songs in the contest should be original, but parodies are okay. Cover versions are not.

You can upload an audio or video file, but it is not required. Most of us just post song lyrics.

The winner is chosen by a public, eurovision-style (1 to 12 points), vote between all the participating countries.

Is it okay if it's a cover, but just with a twist in the tongue (a different basis)?

I know that, but are you allowed a cover with the same title, but with a couple of different lyrics or new lyrics.

If you want to change the lyrics of an existing song, that's okay, that's what a parody.

If you want your song to have the same title as an existing song, that's okay. IRL, there's like 15 songs with the title "Here I am"

Are there any rules towards political lyrics

Like there is in Eurovision?

And, when do I have to have held my national final by
And can I use internal selection?
Bazalonia

The only rule for the songs is that the lyrics must be original.

There will be a "national finals" thread which you post the name and the artist of your song and abit about how it was selected (how they are is upto you)

Okay... we already have a good number of countries... signups close on Friday (9th). There is still room for more countries, although I might close it 30 if we reach that before the time is up.

Or at least can't have been recognisably used in a song or poetic form before.

There are potentially grey areas where adapting real life material might be permissable. For WorldVision 7, I adapted Lauren Bacall's lines about 'you know how to whistle, don't you? You just put your lips together and blow' from her famous scene opposite Humphrey Bogart in the classic film To Have and Have Not. No one objected, but I had changed the context, put some effort into describing the performance, and gently edited the dialogue to turn it into a believable jazz song. Or perhaps no one recognised the reference, so I just got away with it.

Either way, you can't just take a Beyonce song or Yeats poem and then pass them off as your own nation's entry.

Well, I did call my act "Lauren Bogart and Humphrey Bacall". That was supposed to be just the teensiest clue.

Young people today just don't know their classic cinema, do they?

Here's Nethertopia's host bid:

Nethertopia has a compassion for music. Although the country has only participated one time in the contest, it has shown to at least give a nice show. So they will be very eager to get this contest to their country, to the beautiful second largest city of Nethertopia: Tenderville. We happen to have a stunning concert hall, called the OMEN stage (yes, it's a bit morbid, the name, we know), with a capacity of 15,000 people on the tribunes and another 6,000 field seating places. It is easy reachable, as is lies closely to the Tenderville Airport, but travelling by boat to Nethertopia is a rather lovely option as well. Of course the best Nethertopian directors and cameramen will be used, to make sure everything will be perfectly filmed for the television broadcasting channels. We all hope to see you in Tenderville!

The OMEN:

The Iglesian Archipelago wants to attract more millions of people. For the reason, the Iglesian Archipelago made a bid to host (but then it lost against Cafundó do Juta, Cafundéu) in WSC7. The building for this new contest is the well-known Culturforum Pyramid and since the Culturforum was held during the WSC7, we selected a smaller and calmer building, the S. Martinho Cultural Centre. But now, we are ready to host the WSC8 on this huge colossus. A colossal auditorium with capacity for 25.000 people. It's close to a railway station with the same name of the pyramid. It's served by suburban trains from the Los Vientos North and East Airports to the city centre, it's close to the metro station with the same name, and then by buses and trams. I hope to see you all in this beautiful city of Los Vientos!

Los Vientos North International Airport - Culturforum and vice-versa --> 10 minutes by suburban train, 25 minutes by underground.

Los Vientos East International Airport - Culturforum and vice-versa --> 18 minutes by subruban train, 37 minutes by underground.

Los Vientos Central Station - Culturforum and vice-versa --> 5 minutes by suburban train, 7 minutes by underground.

Los Vientos Campo Central Station - Culturforum and vice-versa --> 3 minutes by suburban train, 5 minutes by underground.
