After a successful first tournament, Myedvedeya would like to announce the second incarnation of the Coupe du Monde d'Escrime, the World Cup of Fencing. Fencing, the art of swordsmanship, is a much underestimated sport, and it is our desire to bring this interesting event into the limelight.

for more information on the rules of competitive fencing, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fencing#Protocol

for more information about the scorination process, see the first CMd'E thread, at Coupe du Monde d'Escrime I (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=569585&highlight=Coupe+monde+d%27Escrime)

Participating Nations:
Nations may enter fencers to each of the three weapons. (Fleuret(Foil), Épée, Sabre). Style Modifiers from 0(Most Defensive) to 10(Most Offensive) are accepted. RP will be the main determining factor in winning matches, so nations are encouraged to RP. This time around, ranks from the previous CMd'E will be used as well, but RP will still be extremely effective. Nations may submit the same fencer to more than one event.

If a nation does not enter a name or style modifier, they will be given a style modifier of 5(Mid-range), and, taking a leaf from Rennidan's book in the WTTC, will be given a nickname of my choice. Unless you wish for your nation to be represented by "Itchy", "Milksop", and "The French Guy", you should probably submit names if you wish to participate.

Submission Rules:
Nations in the Top four of the national standings may submit five fencers. Nations in the next two may submit four fencers, and all other nations may submit three fencers.

5 FENCER NATIONS: Snefaldia, Myedvedeya, Newmanistan, Miroxia
4 FENCER NATIONS: Greal, Roumberre
ALL OTHER NATIONS MAY SUBMIT 3 FENCERS.

STADIUM:

Moskva State Athlete's Academy Fencing Hall
Capacity: 50,000

All matches will take place here, at the Olympic-Quality fencing stadium
built for the Myedvedeyan national fencing championships. Fencers will be given lodging at the world-famous Moskva State Athlete's Academy, where star Myedvedeyan athletes are trained from an early age. The Rooms and Food are comparable to high-level hotels.

Snefaldia
18-12-2008, 05:56
Our federation has prepared a roster of fencers for each event:

Men’s Foil
1. Wodash Faar
Rating: 8
Biography: The top rated foilist in Snefaldia. Known for his aggressive style and lightning-fast footwork, Faar uses his long reach and speed to push his opponents up and down the piste before completing the touch. Less defensive that most of Snefaldia's top-level foilists, it is unclear how he will fare against the more aggressive foilists in the international scene.

2. Tel Sárdavär
Rating: 6
Biography: Trained by Maitre d'Armes Hyacinthe Lemaitre, Sárdavär held the #1 spot in Snefaldian foil fencing for several years until he was upset by Wodash Faar. Described as having excellent counter-time and tempo control, he sets up a pattern of subtle control on the bout, and is known for his mind-bending blade flicks and contortions.

Men's Sabre
1. Tunggiya, Gobulo Rala
Rating: 5
Biography: Snefaldia's #1 sabreur, Rala was schooled by the top sabre coach in the country and quickly dominated the national circuits with his mixed style of defense and aggression. Described by commentators as a "calculating, unpredictable" opponent, he is known to project weakness and take easy parry-riposte touches. His game is more complex, however, and his unpredictable nature makes him a formidable opponent.

2. Margias Zarunel
Rating: 9
Biography: A rising star in Snefaldian sabre, he studies with World #3 sabreist Gobulo Rala in Pholimjung, recently defeating his fellow salle-mate at a National Cup event in Sargedain. Well known for his aggressive flunge and lightning speed, he has a penchant for whipping his blade over the guard for the touch. Commentators have called him the "aggressive cousin of the Tungiyya Tiger," a reference to his practice with Gobulo and his fiery application of the same tactics.

Men’s Epee
1. Birkâsh Hëm
Rating: 7
Biography: In a time where the favored tactics in epee favor lightning-strikes to the high line, this top epeeist succeeds with solid bladework and impeccable counter-time. From a Buddhist family, he puts his meditation training to work on the strip, focusing on his opponent's movements and structuring his patterns before reacting to time out any attacks.

Oiseaui

http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/2220/oiseauheadersmallyk0.png

The Oiseaui Sports Committee has prepared the roster of Fencer's who will be competing in the second Coupe du Monde d'Escrime.

Men's Foil
Marcos Hyde
Mixed Offensive/Defensive - 5
When Marcos was 4 years old his parents enrolled him in a beginner's Fencing class. At first the young man was reluctant and often threw temper tantrums because he'd hit directly outside the scoring area of the jacket, and not score a touch. However, the young man turned this anger & frustration into drive & determination and the older he got, the better he became at hitting his mark every single time, often obliterating his opponents who seemingly could not do the same. When Marcos turned 18 he moved to the sport training center on Oiseaui's island of Aui where he met fellow competitor Tyson Robbins who helped shape him into the Foil professional he is today.

Men's Épée
Barrett Robbins
Defensive - 3
Relatively new to the sport of Professional Fencing, Barrett Robbins was pushed into fencing at a young age by his father Rayford Robbins, Oiseaui's greatest Fencer. Growing up Barrett was always under the shadow of his older brother Tyson Robbins, his father's publicly proclaimed "favorite". However, recently he changed to the Épée from the Sabre hoping his father's choice of sword would bring him as much luck and skill as it did his dad. Since the change he has begun rising through the ranks of Oiseaui's Épée swordsman, and in a recent match he took the place of number 1 which qualified him for a spot in this competition. By attending the CMd'E, Barrett hopes for once he can prove to his father that he will do justice to the family name.

Men's Sabre
Tyson Robbins
Offensive - 7
The older brother of Barrett Robbins and trainer of Marcos Hyde, Tyson Robbins stormed the Professional fencing world at the young age of 15. Sent to live and train at the Aui training centers when he was 5, it was obvious very early on that he would follow in his father's footsteps. At the age of 16, Tyson defeated the long-time Sabre champion Fletcher Stegall and since then his ranking has gone untouched. While Tyson still fences against those who wish to claim his title, he has turned his skills to helping train other young fencer's who reside at the Aui training centers. Tyson has jokingly remarked that between fencing and training they should just give him a half-white, half-black uniform to keep him from constantly switching back and forth. Unsure of the seriousness of the 1st CMd'E, now that Tyson has seen the skill level displayed here he hopes that win or lose, he will once again feel the thrill of being challenged.

Greali Roster

Epee: Raul Webster
Style: 8
Performed admirably in the last world cup of fencing and managed to advance to the semi-finals. Now he will return to once again familiar and new opponents.

Foil: Peter Walters
Style: 7
Though he had a tough time last year, he was once again accepted to play Foil.

Foil: Charles Jenkins
Style: 8
Recent trainee of the famous Sasha Fencing School. He was ranked the highest and also would play Foil.

Sabre: James Franks
Style: 9
Served in the last cup and like his compatriot Walters, he had a very rough time.
Rennidan
19-12-2008, 18:57
Rennidan would like to reappear!

RENNIDANIAN FENCING ROSTER

Epee: Mokey Fwafwa
Style: 10
Bio: Likes stabbing stuff.

Fleuret (Foil): Lendy Bobowitz
Style:10
Bio: Likes stabbing stuff more.

Sabre: Smithy Swashwackka
Style: 10
Bio: Likes stabbing stuff the most.

All three of the Rennidanian contestants are currently inmates of the Rennidan National Penitentiary. Each one was selected for the competition as a part of their community service and the offer of a shortened sentence.

bump.
Newmanistan
22-12-2008, 06:28
Newmanistan will return those who participated in the first event.

Epee- Matt Olsen (Style: 9)- Age: 29- An aggressive S.O.B. He will be on the offense without every being fearful of the possible consequences. He is going to tone down a bit this year though with the all out attack, going from a “10" to a “9". Ranked #7 in the Epee.

Foil- Shannon Wallace (Style: 8)- Age 24- She’s somewhat over her cheating boyfriend now. But now she uses a hatred against all men as motivation to defeat her opponents. And if the opponent is another woman, then she’ll just pretend that she was someone an ex-boyfriend cheated on her with. Ranked #3 in the foil.

Sabre- Ryan Edwards (Style: 7)- Age 19- Dropped out of high school at 15 to pursue a career in fencing. Very intelligent when it comes to his trade; a complete idiot in non-fencing aspects of life. Yet another one who thinks the world is out to get him, and uses that when going to battle. Ranked #2 in the sabre.

And the following newcomers will make their way to Myedvedeya:

Epee: John Miller (Style: 3)- Age 22- The Anti-Olsen. Miller is all about the tactical points of fencing, and lets his opponent be the aggressor since he does a wonderful job in fending off attacks. Most of Miller’s victories are come-from-behind wins, where he waits for his time to strike, frustrating the opponent, and then scores points in the latter stages.

Sabre: Kevin Hoover (Style: 6)- Age: 33- The veteran was very upset when then 18-year old Ryan Edwards was named to represent the Empire in the Sabre over him last year, feeling that Edwards received preferential scoring from the referee in their head to head encounter. Now he gets his chance and wants to show the world that he can do what Edwards couldn’t: Defeat Misha Sukholev in the Sabre.
Roumberre

To the organisers, Coupe du Monde d'Escrime _

Bonjorno!

I am writing to confirm that the Sovereign Principality of Roumberre will be sending the full number of entrants that your rules allow us [I](i.e. four) to participate in this tournament. These will be two to fence with the Fleuret and two for the Épée but, this time, no sabreurs. Brief dossiers on our entrants accompany this letter.

Yours politely,

Alexandre Brumas [senior],
Chairbear, Committee Olympic Roumberree;
Chancellor of the University of Baree.

Fleuret (Foil): the Princessina Callista d’Ursini, ‘Mademurselle de Roumberre’. (Style modifier = 8)
Gender = female. Age = 25. Fur = light-brown. Right-pawed.
The elder of Prince Alberre VIII’s two daughters, although a male cousin is his actual heir, she is a very athletically inclined – as well as a very determined – young lady.
She competed in Foil at the 3rd Summer Olympics, winning Gold both in the ‘Women’s Individual’ event and as a member of the winning ‘Women’s Team’, and also in Épée (unplaced in the ‘Women’s Individual’ contest, but a Silver medal as a member of the second-placed ‘Women’s Team’…), as well as gaining a pair of additional Gold medals in the sport of ‘Badminton’ (‘Women’s Doubles’ & ‘Mixed Doubles’; she competed in the ‘Women’s Individual’ contest for this sport, too, but was unplaced in that event…)… and after this competition finishes she’ll be off to Alavaria, in Kelssek, for the 4th Olympic Winter Games and a go at the Figure-Skating… ;)

Fleuret (Foil): Barrtos (Style modifier = 5)
Gender = male. Age = 32. Fur = brown. Left-pawed.
A member of Roumberre's aristocracy, but without an inheritance of lands, Barrtos enlisted in the Prince's Arquebusiers six years ago and is now their third-in-command. He is renowned for his swordsmanship not only in the Principality itself but also across the nearer parts of Bears Armed as well, and generally displays a high level of self-control which fits in well with his choice of a "balanced" fencing style.
He competed in Foil at the 3rd Summer Olympics, both as an individual (4th place) and as a part of the Roumberree Men’s Team (unplaced).

Épée: Barramis (Style modifier = 7)
Gender = male. age = 24. Fur = dark brown. Right-pawed.
Of slightly lower status than Barrtos, he is also a member of the Prince's Arquebusiers but is known to have considered the (Roman Catholic) priesthood as an alternative profession from time to time; a bit more flamboyant in style than his colleague. He competed in Épée at the 3rd Summer Olympics, both as an individual (winning Silver) and as a part of the Roumberree Men’s Team (unplaced).

Épée: Borthoss (Style modifier = 4)
Gender = male. Age = 27. Fur = dark brown. Left-pawed.
A native of Baree, our nation’s capital city, he is also a member of the Prince’s Arquebusiers (although he comes from a merchant family rather than a gentry one) and is a close friend to both Barrtos and Barramis. He competed in Épée at the 3rd Summer Olympics, both as an individual (being eliminated from that contest, in the third round, by Barramis) and as a part of the Roumberree Men’s Team (alongside Barramis and their other friend Barr’Tagnan). His build is somewhat stocky, and the combination of this factor with his rather ‘defensive’ style often leads opponents to seriously underestimate the speed with which he is capable of striking.

When appearing in public but not actually fencing (whether at practice or in the arena), Callista d’Ursini will wear fashionable clothing (that really does suit her build & colouring), with a modest amount of [high-quality] jewellery, and will be accompanied by at least one Lady-in-Waiting.

When appearing in public but not actually fencing (whether at practice or in the arena), Barrtos, Barramis and Borthoss will wear the tabards & hats from their Arquebusiers' uniforms on top of their other clothing: These tabards bear the Prince's arms (similar to the national flag, but reverse the distribution of the red & yellow and remove the central blue-&-white disc) on the front, and have plain black backs. The hats are soft ones, red in colour, with broad brims that are pinned back on the right-hand side and with a tuft of yellow plumes on the left-hand side.
They may be called upon to provide an escort for the Princessina, in certain circumstances.

They are acccompanied by Monsegnurr Androkles DeBwarr (as team chaplain) and -- just in case -- Doctor Arrarn LeBruinne MD, and are under the supervision of Messur Alexandre Brumas [junior] who is serving as his father's deputy on this occasion. A number of Fencing fans from Roumberre, and some from Bears Armed as well, have also come along...
