An Alliance Reborn...

The Crimm
16-12-2008, 07:13
A private transmission, sent to Damien Dreadfire personally, would arrive from Empress Volsung.

Damien...

I have chosen to inform you of the coming events, so that you may temper any flares within Gholgoth once news of what I plan breaks. I know I am not popular with my fellow Gholgothic lords, so I feel this measure is justified. Though each Lord is an equal, the respect for your nations will lead to cooler heads prevailing. Unless you choose to lead such a flare, of course. In which case... please try not to level Gdansk again. It took an awful lot of money to rebuild it from the last time you visited. Back to the point of this letter...

I withdrew the Empire from NATO many months ago, as you know. I felt that NATO had grown stagnant and meaningless in the modern political landscape. I now formally withdraw from Gholgoth, though my reasons are drastically different.

I plan to do what you did so many years ago. Form an alliance from wandering nations with no defining purpose and make it a force to be reckoned with. It will be a fully independent alliance, which happens to be on friendly terms with Gholgoth. There is a chance that we shall be followed by the nation of Sigma Octavus. The reasons for such a departure will become clear in my public announcement.

The coming words and acts are not meant as insult to you or Gholgoth. I hold you both in high regard, despite my bitterness over the inaction against Nod. I am merely tired of my nation following in any form, when it is finally suited to lead. This is not a repeat of the disaster that Coleman's bitch of a wife committed us to... far from it. We will instead forge a new destiny, while never forgetting what placed us at this turning point. I would still like to call you 'ally', if no longer 'brother'. We only wish to try our own hand at forming a union of nations and doing with that union things Gholgoth cannot do. An alliance that has to prove itself worthy... after all, there is nothing left for the Gothic Lords to prove.

In short, Damien... I require a challenge that Gholgoth simply cannot grant me.

==========

Sonya Volsung stood before her most valued allies in the Empire, the proceedings being sent to the nations of Gholgoth instantly, along with the world in general.

"It is time for a new force to rise in this world. The nations of Gholgoth have been the best allies that the Crimm have ever had. In generations past, the GDODAD was our greatest ally. Yet even now, generations after Andrew Coleman IV joined the GDODAD and years after Varchak joined Gholgoth and Kenneth Coleman II joined NATO... we are still rallying to other leader's flags. We go where others lead and rarely do that leading ourselves. Very little of Crimmond's role has changed since the GDODAD days. We're still muscle for an alliance. While we hold great sway in Gholgoth, Crimmond has never had the opportunity to lead the alliance to glory.

"For several years, I have been yearning to have this nation reach it's full potential. For this nation to find it's own path again. That is why a new alliance is founded this day. The Midnight Alliance is reborn. An alliance that will shape world events, alter the destiny of this rock of a planet and will set a mark far more forcefully than Gholgoth ever bothers to anymore. We in Gholgoth have grown complacent. Grown so powerful we do not act, but only react. Having grown fat and old, the nations in Gholgoth do not display the fire like they once did. Even our closest allies have let their nations fall into the backdrop of world events, instead of leading nations to glory, they it was done when I was but a Lieutenant.

Some of you may remember from your history books an alliance called Midnight... it was an alliance led by Steel Butterfly. The Steel Empire took the Crimm under their wing and allowed them to flourish into the Empire you see now. Therefore, I resurrect Midnight this day so that more nations may be offered that same chance at success. Crimmond is one of the only three remaining Knights of Midnight. The others are Steel Butterfly, now titling itself the Orion Empire and long gone from this planet... and the other is Sigma Octavus, a fellow Gholgothic power. As such, I extend to them an offer to join me in rebuilding what once was. I will not compel them... and I will not demand they relinquish their membership in Gholgoth should they accept. I merely offer them the chance at making a lasting mark upon history.

"Now... we shall reforge the spirit of those long ago days. An alliance will be created this day for nations who wish to stop fearing the sleeping behemoth alliances. To stop fearing that if they step out of line, the great powers will rouse and swipe at them. This will be an alliance of nations that are small, yet have a fighting spirit that will allow them to flourish, given a chance. There will be no great long winded charter for members to abide by... Instead, I shall lay out several simple rules for the membership to abide by... If you can follow them, you will flourish. If you disobey them, you will be cast out, stripped of your support and left to your fate.

"Number one... Members shall openly trade with each other, without tarriffs higher than 50% of those imposed on outsiders.

"Number two... If a member should go to war with an outsider, all member states have the option of defending. Be warned... this alliance will not be used as a shield. If a member continually invades larger nations and uses Midnight to save their asses, that nation may well find itself cut off from all support and allowed to fall as an example to others.

"Number three, and the most important for the smaller nations to remember... The Empire of Crimmond shall not come to your rescue every time you find yourself against hard resistance. One must learn to overcome obstacles to ever hope to survive in this world. We shall always be open to petitions and will lend support if the situation is indeed dire. If you are merely not winning as easily as you thought you would... then you shall be told to innovate. There are many ways to end wars quickly and decisively. My own nation has proven this so many a time.

"Number four.... there is no provision for warfare amongst Midnight members. I have seen an alliance die because of such a provision. The Allied Powers Trade Organization. I shall not Midnight suffer such an indignity. If two nations in Midnight come to blows, they will settle the matter as they see fit. The Empire of Crimmond will not intervene in any such war, but we shall not stop any other Midnight member from doing so.

"As you can see, Midnight will not coddle it's members. The alliance will indeed provide support... but that support must be earned by wise decisions, good leadership and gaining the respect of your peers." Sonya pauses for a moment. "This alliance is meant to give it's members an advantage on the rest of the world... but to do this, the members must prove they can back up their words and not always come running to my Empire, or any other large member, for assistance when things go wrong. I shall provide assistance where I see it is best, but at times... the Empire may refuse. As may any member nation.

"This brings me to the structure of the alliance. There is no minister of intelligence, or commerce or any other such thing. There is only Midnight. As one of the few remaining Empires of the first Midnight Alliance, Crimmond will be the ever present guiding hand... but Midnight shall not be my puppet. It will be what the membership makes it. As such, each will be able to lead it's full might into battle or speak for it on the international scene. This will prepare each member to lead their own alliances, in time... to become the world's next super powers. Of course, should one member abuse this power and seek to tie this alliance down to an unpopular position... do not be surprised when there are repercussions.

"As of this moment, the efforts of Crimmond are focused on this goal alone. As such, our membership in Gholgoth will be nullified immediately. They will endure, as they have always done. We shall remain on good terms with them... but we can no longer count ourselves as one of them.

"This day brings in a new era. Any and all nations that wish for a chance to walk side by side with giants and be seen as equals... you can now do so as the new Knights of Midnight." Sonya pauses for just the right amount to get the proper effect. "Step forward now and claim your future now, or forever be left behind by those stronger than yourselves."

[OOC: There is a Midnight region... but I'm not going to require anyone to move to it. It you want to, once you get in, be my guest.

Forum is here: http://z10.invisionfree.com/Midnight_Alliance/index.php?act=idx

I'd prefer it if you formally applied there, but if you want to post here as well, that is fine. Keeps this thing afloat better.]

For days Dreadfire had shut himself into his chambers, plotting and constructing plans in secret with only his most trusted council as company. Many things were about to change, and indeed much had already changed in the months since the great campaign against Mediterranica was launched. The war thus far enjoyed unexpected success very early on with numerous nations within the region flocking to the banner of Gholgoth, a move that most Freekish commanders did not anticipate. It would only be a matter of time now before the meager resistance within Mediterranica was crushed and a Gothic presense cemented, and those from within who would help achieve this would be rewarded greatly for their services.

However things were also changing from within the Gothic brotherhood itself. Word had reached Damien that Sonya Volsung, the whore Empress from Crimmond had severed the bonds of brotherhood and withdrawn from Gholgoth with the intention of carving out a new destiny for Crimmond. Naturally this did not sit well with Damien, who cursed Volsung violently...for he knew that he should have dispatched her from the moment their paths crossed. It was a situation that Hartman was reluctant to handle, and thus the Supreme Warlord would personally pen a response to the recent events that had unfolded. His message was brief...and laced with venom.

~From the desk of Lord Damien the Destroyer, Supreme Warlord of the New Gothic Empire of Automagfreek~

Sonya, you disappoint me.

When first I laid eyes upon you I felt a great hatred building inside me, for your first words to me were nothing more than pure disrespect and contempt. Were we not present at a regional gathering I would not have hesitated to strike your head from your shoulders, and now I see that perhaps I made a mistake in staying my hand. You have made a great error in turning your back on a brotherhood forged in blood by those who came before you, and you dishonor Crimmond's sacrifice when first it strayed from Gholgoth... only to come back into the fold.

Your people shall always remain friends of the Freeks and of myself, but you....you shall receive nothing but scorn from me. Crimmond has been lead down a dark and dangerous path by your hand, and after past betrayals I am unsure the other Gothic Lords will be so welcoming as they have in the past. Automagfreek shall not come to Crimmond's aid, shall not answer Crimmond's call, shall not flock to Crimmond's side so long as you remain at the helm. I will not be satisfied until your severed head sits upon my desk, and only then shall the honor of your ancient nation be restored.

Shall you seek to steal from Gholgoth its trusted brothers and Lords for your own selfish ambitions there will be irreversible damage done to the relations of our two countries. Crimmond has tried in the past to make its own way in this world, and in the past it has failed because the world has fallen into order. No longer do numerous alliances from every background struggle for power, no longer does chaos envelop our planet, and no longer do any remain who can topple almighty Gholgoth. Through ages of brutality and bloodshed we have claimed our place at the top of the totem pole, and there can be no other great power so long as we exist.

Your efforts are in vain Sonya, and I forsee an era of unrest within Crimmond. There will be great discontent with you and your actions. Your name will be cursed by future generations and your legacy will be one of ruin. I have forseen this, and by the Winds it is what shall come to pass. No longer shall the fortress of Gholgoth provide Crimmond refuge against the wolves that roam the lands, and we shall not come to your aid when they strike. You have chosen this fate, and now you must suffer it.

Sonya leaned back slowly into the centuries old leather chair, behind the equally old desk that all her predecessors had sat at. "Well... I get the feeling he doesn't like me."

Across from her sat one of her most loyal. The rotund Colonel Daunt, one of the first Imperial Commandos. He chuckled and shook his head slowly. "You know, Sonya..." He rumbled, standing slowly. "If Damien Dreadfire told me he wouldn't be satisfied until my head was on his desk, I'd do one of two things... either kill him before he kills you, which has a woefully poor track record of success, or hide. Which has a slightly better chance of success."

"I've stared down Delta. Laughed in his face even... Damien can't intimidate me and he knows it. He's just pissed off because he feels that I've insulted him, yet there would likely be little support for retaliation for my words. So, he can't invade and send his Sentinels to nab me. Something he'd do to anyone else who had done what I have."

Daunt arched an eyebrow. "So, what will you do?"

"Endure. As I always have and always will. Send no reply. Nothing more need be said between us. Actions speak louder. And one day, Damien will look upon me again... and will grudgingly extend a hand of friendship again." She chuckled at the unconvinced look on Daunt's face. "It will come after Midnight rises in power from our lone nation to a conglomeration of powers that shape world events, rather than be shaped by them as his empire is."
