Ask Zwangzug for more details, but basically the better you do in a WBC the better your rank is.

It would be nice KJO; to have Idanno confirm.

The rankings are modeled off the football KPB ranking system. For each tournament, the number of games a team won is divided by the highest number of games any team played. Then the scores from the last three tournaments are added together, with the most recent tournament's score getting a 4x multiplier and the next-most-recent one 2x.

...Having said that I should recalculate these rankings, typing that out made me realize my mistake. Not a major one though. The rankings as displayed now are correct.

Just to confirm that we're bidding to host (despite also planning to run the field hockey WC, which will likely take place after the WBC).

Bid details:
20/24 teams
Groups of four, playing double round-robin home and away (with respective DH rules of country match is played in)
Top two per group qualify; two groups of five/six in Liventia playing a single round-robin (with DH, although there's no rule saying you can't bat a pitcher even with the DH rule).
Top two qualify for championship game; next two for third place, etc.

Scorinator: This is still in the air. I no longer have the modified spreadsheet I used for the WBC I hosted, but I still have the WBC2 scorinator which I could modify again. Alternatively, I could adjust the formula in NSFS and use that to scorinate the games (either once, or more than once with some weird formula, like the World Bowl).

Stadia isn't important from an OOC point of view and will come later should this bid be selected.

If Liventia can deal with 22 teams, I guess I'll hand over the reins to them.
It will be their call to end signups.
Liventia
30-11-2008, 16:43
I doubt we're getting any more signups, so they're closed.

Since there are 22 teams involved (and that's a horrible number), I am going to put forward the suggestion that the host and the defending champions qualify directly for the finals, with 20 teams in pre-qualifying. Five groups of four, playing games home and away with respective DH rules of hosts. Top two per group qualify for final group stage.

Two groups of six in Liventia playing a single round-robin (with DH, although there's no rule saying you can't bat a pitcher even with the DH rule). Top two qualify for championship game; next two for third place, etc.

OR
If entrants feel that they don't want the defending champions and hosts to get byes, then I'd do it this way:
11 ties, home and away. 11 teams with winning aggregate score + best loser on aggregate qualify for finals. Two groups of six in Liventia playing a single round-robin. Top two qualify for championship game; next two for third place, etc.

Thoughts?
Newmanistan

I would go along with the first proposal just fine (I don't really like the second), but what about two groups of eleven where every plays each other once? While seeming big at first, it's really not going to be significantly any more matchdays then the first proposal.
It ends up being 5 home and 5 road for everyone, and you could "borrow" the fixture assignment list from Baptism of Fire 27 to make scheduling 100times easier.

From there top four, our top six (with byes for the top two) advance.
Liventia
30-11-2008, 17:11
Dammit! Idanno is listed twice on the signup sheet, so we're really only at 21. If that's the case, only the defending champions (or the hosts, whichever you people prefer) will auto-qualify for the finals.
Miroxia

Qazox

That will work.

Liventia, I have no problem with you having the hosts making the finals automatically, but Having the defending champs auto-qualify (OOCly i like the idea, seeing as I am the defending champion :p) doesn't seem right to me.

Would 3 groups of 7 teams work out for you at all?
Newmanistan
30-11-2008, 21:00
The Cup of Harmony 35 format should be able to work, right? Three groups of seven, top three advance with a "play in" between the two worst third place teams?

Doesn't seem like we need to be giving anyone a bye, and if we gave the host a bye, this may set a precedent. Do we want that? I'd rather if a bye needed to be made, that it go to the defending champ.
Taeshan
30-11-2008, 22:46
Or we could just go with a miroxian puppet, a entrance from Kosovoe and the return of west Pocono making it 24 with 4 grous of 6 and top two making to knockouts.
Liventia
01-12-2008, 01:56
I would really want to avoid puppets. The main problem with them in such a small tournament is that it's unlikely they will contribute any RP, and that's not my goal.
Taeshan

Agreed.
Liventia
04-12-2008, 12:48
How's this then?

Option 1
21 teams: 4 groups x 4 + 1 group x 5 = 21

Home-and-away round-robin preliminary round. Top two per group qualify (10). Rest of teams collated into a single table, with the best two also qualifying.

Finals: 12 teams: 4 groups x 3, single round robin in Liventia. Group winners move on to semi-finals (best of 5); final is best-of-7.

Minimum number of matchdays: 19; maximum: 24

OR:
Option 2

3 groups x 7 home-and-away; top two from each group qualify (6), best two third-placed teams qualify (8). Direct knockouts in finals (best-of-5, with final best-of-7)

Minimum number of matchdays: 24; maximum: 31

OR:
Option 3

3 groups x 7 home-and-away; top four from each group qualify (12), then follow finals format of option 1.

Minimum number of matchdays: 23; maximum: 28

OR:
Option 4
3 groups x 7 single round-robin in Liventia; top four from each group qualify (12), then follow finals format in option 1.

Minimum number of matchdays: 16; maximum: 21

Thoughts?

Preferred Option: #3
Second Choice: #4

I do not really care for uneven groups, so I can't say #1, but it would be my third choice if necessary.

I do not care, at all, for option 2. Let's say this is the result of the three groups:
Group A: 2 highly active nations, 1 somewhat, 4 dead. The active nations beat up on the dead nations therefore creating good records for the top 3, easily.

Group B: 3 active, 1 somewhat, 3 dead. This group will likely produce a "best of" 3rd place team.

Group C: 5 active, 1 somewhat, 1 dead. Because the active nations are beating up on each other, their third place team is not likely to be as good as group A & B's, thus this is the group that gets left out in the cold for that third spot. This is precisely why I did not use this particular format in the CoH and did the 8-9 play in game.

This is also the main basis why i don't like option 1. I really don't like "best of" formats (i.e. two best third place teams out of three), unless teams have played the others from the other groups, which doesn't really happen in the NS world, because really to me, it just penalizes the active groups more.

I would go for option 3 although if we just wait a few days while were arguing enoguh teams will sign up by then

Have you realised aside from Rennidan, no one else has signed up despite this thread consistently being near the top?

On that note, with 22 teams I'd revert to this, if no one wants byes:
11 ties, home and away. 11 teams with winning aggregate score + best loser on aggregate qualify for finals. Two groups of six in Liventia playing a single round-robin. Top two qualify for championship game; next two for third place, etc.
