Rugby League World Cup [RP, Squads and Scores]

Sorthern Northland

The Rugby League World Cup

Endless days and nights have been spent preparing the stadiums, preparing the cites. The government itself has spent no small amount of time advertising this competition. The players and fans are finally arriving for what is sure to be a memorable event. In a few days time the festivities and the rugby will start, but for now as it says on the giant billboard outside Beningrad International Airport, "In Sorthern Northland, Rugby League World Cup welcomes YOU!!"

The Draw

The ten competing teams have been drawn into two separate groups, which have been imaginatively named, Group One and Group Two. The groups are as follows;

Group One

1) Lovisa
2) Alversia (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14143760&postcount=23)
3) Miroxia
4) The Bostopian Empire
5) Lurikastan (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14133252&postcount=2)

Group Two

1) Land de Wood
2) Docky (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14134486&postcount=11)
3) Taeshan (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14133617&postcount=4)
4) Sorthern Northland (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14144938&postcount=24)
5) Kjomasasopia (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14133520&postcount=3)

Schedule

The first match will be scorinated on Wednesday 29th October, and every twenty four thereafter. I will aim to do the scorinations around 20:00 GMT. The schedule is as follows;

Group stage
MD1: 29th Oct, 2 vs 4, 3 vs 5, 1 bye (Group one games in Rhuritania, Group two games in Beningrad)
MD2: 30th Oct, 1 vs 5, 3 vs 4, 2 bye (Group one games in New Ireland, Group two games in Baile an Conghaile)
MD3: 31st Oct, 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3, 5 bye (Group one games in Gratnesborugh, Group two games in Heathfield)
MD4: 1st Nov, 2 vs 5, 3 vs 1, 4 bye Group one games in Beningrad, Group two games in Gratnesborugh) (These games will be scored later than usual, around 23:00, if the trains are on time that is. Which they probably won't be.)
MD5: 2nd Nov, 1 vs 2, 4 vs 5, 3 bye (Group one games in Baile an Conghaile, Group two games in Rhuritania)

Note: In the group stage two points will be given for a win and one for a draw. Any team tied on points will be separated by points difference and if still level, points scored.

Kockouts
Semi Finals: 3rd Nov, SF1: Group 1 winner vs Group 2 runner up, SF2: Group 1 runner up vs Group 2 winner (SF1 in Heathfield, SF2 in Gratnesborugh)
Third Placed Play-off: 4th Nov, SF1 Loser vs SF2 Loser
Final: 4th Nov, SF1 winner vs SF2 winner (Third placed play-off and final both in Beningrad)

Stadia

Beningrad Stadium of the Revolutionary Struggle – City: Beningrad – Capacity: 60000: Located in the capital of Sorthern Northland, this is the national stadium for Rugby League. It is also used by the Sorthern government to hold political rallies and shows showcasing the achievements of the government since it came to power.

Farrenway Park – City: Gratnesborugh – Capacity: 55,000: Located right on the coast, this stadium can be a windy place to play. Not good for kicking teams. Has also recently won a national award as the stadium best equipped for disabled fans.

The Causeway – City: Heathfield – Capacity: 49000: More commonly used as the home ground of Sorthern Football League team, Heathfield United, it has a reputation as one of the most compact stadiums in the SFL due to it's steep banks of seating. How they ever managed to pack 49,000 seats in is anyone guess, but it does make for one hell of an atmosphere.

An Páirc – City: Baile an Conghaile – Capacity: 35,000: As much a museum as a sports venue. Being in Baile an Conghaile, (English: Connollytown, named after James Connolly) it hosts the countries largest James Connolly Museum. Outside it's main entrance also stands a large statue of Connolly.

St. Patricks Field – City: New Ireland – Capacity: 35000: A new stadium, it isn't one of the most favoured in Sorthern Northland. Players dislike it due to a dodgy pitch, fans dislike it due to being right on the edge of town.

Rhuri Stadion – City: Rhuritania – Capacity: 30,000: Located in the heart of German speaking Sorthern Northland, this stadium was chosen in a most probably failed attempt to boost rugby league in the area. Stadium won an award for best sausages in the country earlier this year.

Squads

Squads (or rosters if you prefer) should be posted in here. They should include a list of players you are sending, there is no limit on the number of players you can send. For those unsure of positions see here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_league_positions). You may also want to include an RP permissions guide in order to assist fellow RPers. An example is shown below.

If My Opponent RP's First they may:

Choose My Goal/Try Scorers: Y/N
Godmod Events: Y/N
Injure My Players: Y/N
Put my players in Sin bin: Y/N
Send my players off: Y/N
Other: (Please Specify)

So all that is left for us to do is thank everyone for participating, and wish you all the best of luck.

The organisers would like to point out that whilst using traditional numbers is preferable it is not required, therefore teams may issue whatever squad numbers they wish to.

Also, for those unaware of what positions there are this link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_league_positions)(it's also in the first post), explains the positions. If you want to read it, read it, if you don't, don't. But if you do then it will hopefully help you understand the game a bit better.

Docky, positions? not that i have any say in this tourney, but i assume that positions are quite helpful to Sorthen Northland if he knows who is playing where.

also, that is a mighty small squad you have there. it is actually too small. you are one player short.
13 onfield + 4 subs = 17. you have 16. therefore, you would have to forfeit every game, under international top grade rules.

Nope, I can do the scoring without positions. It's just that they make it easier for RPing.

In real life yes, but this isn't real life, it's Nationstates and on NS we're a lot less strict on who/what can play. For example in the (football) World Cup, teams of zombies, teams of vegetables, teams of supermarket produce have taken part in the past. Someone even sent a one man team a couple of cups ago. If someone only wants to send 13 players go ahead. If they do, and you beat them, just rp it that they got really fatigued due to their small number.

THE KJO BUGLE: RLWC EDITION

Lurikastan 14-4 Kjomasasopia 'A'
(LUR: Tries:3, Penalties:1,) (KJA: Tries:1)

In an attempt to cap many new players, the Kjomasasopian Knights rested several key players including HB Shellford Wiremu (Replaced by Yong Erik Horne). The end result was a loss to a much-too-powerful Lurikastan. Notable Events Include the caps of both Wong and prop forward Namatu Siruken, who are the first Han players to play for KJO in any sport. Saruken scored is first Try , 12 seconds into the game, after hitting up with a Prop from Lurikastan, stripping the ball one-on-one, and falling over the line (rugby union style)

Miroxia 8-19 Kjomasasopia Knights
(MIR: Tries:1, Con:1, Pens:1) (KJO: Tries:3, Con:1, Pens:2, Drop:1)

Later that evening, with 7 of the starting 13 vacking up from KJA duties, the Knights started proceedings with a warcry, which mustve shook the Miroxians up, taking until the 44th minute to post thier first four pointer. The 4-6-7 Wiremu Connection seemed unbeatable, running rings around a scrappy first half defensive effort. Half Time Score: MIR 2 KJO 12

With a 10 point lead heading into the second half, the Knights seemed to be a little too big-headed, as they let in a solid forward effort for a 4-pointer. conversion succesful. owever, this didnt dampen the Knights spirit, as they battled on, unlucky to be denied by several Video Referee decisions, as well as rock solid Miroxian Defence. but in the end, it was the Brilliance of Sheldon "Knight In Shining Armour' Wiremu, the master of rugby league, and a solo effort, breaking 15 tackles and running 92 metres to score in the 67th minute. this must have killed off whatever morale the Miroxians had left, as they kicked-off directly out of play, resulting in Colby Wiremu landing an outstanding 50-Metre shot at goal. all hope for a recovery was gone when Colby slotted a field goal 44 metres out in the 78th minuteto take the score to 17-8. but immediately after the kick was taken, a penalty was called for a late shot, and after back-chat from a tired Miroxia made things worse, and 2 Miroxians were placed on Report (dont worry Miroxia, no charges were placed.), Sheldon decided to take a stab at goal. with the hooter rigning in the backround, he slots it perfectly. FT score - KJO 19 d MIR 8.

*Technically, i should point out that we are no longer undefeated.
KJO: 4-1-0

Rugby League World Cup start nears

Workers at the Beningrad Stadium of the Revolutionary Struggle will this morning be putting the final touches on the stadium as preparations for the Rugby League World Cup give way for the actual competition itself. That such an event is now just hours away is a source of great pride for ex-President and the country's founding father, Ben O'Bagels. O'Bagels, a keen sportsman is said to have been heavily involved in the organisation of the event and as he spoke at the final pre tournament press conference from the organisers it would clear he was proud to see Sorthern Northland hosting an international sports tournament, saying, “Today will be one of the proudest days in Sorthern history. Whilst the actual work and putting ideas into practise has only taken a few months, there have been years of planning involved. Right from the day the nation was founded, I'd always dreamt that we'd host a Rugby League World Cup, and we are now just hours away from it becoming so. The fans have come en masse which is great, the players are here and are really up for it, and I'd like to greatly thank the competing nations, as whilst we've put a lot into hosting this, without them showing up, we wouldn't be able to do it.”

The former President has in the past been a member of Sorthern football, rugby union, and Olympic squads and some were supposed to see him omitted from the rugby league squad. Jokingly he said, “That's the problem with not being President any more, you can't put yourself in the national team. In all seriousness though, I'd have loved to have taken part, indeed I played in a couple of Union World Cup's even though I prefer League, and I was a part of the national football team for a long period and I think I was there on merit so yeah if we'd held this a few years earlier, perhaps I'd have played, but I'm getting on now and playing sport at such a high level takes a lot out of you, so I think my competitive sporting years are behind me.” He also added with tongue firmly in cheek, “Although it would have been nice to have gotten a run in a friendly, and I reckon the reason we played no friendlies was to stop me playing!”

“Spectacular Opening Ceremony”

The World Cup will be opened with what organisers have descried as a “spectacular opening ceremony, and a spectacle to remember”. The actual contents of the ceremony itself have been kept a secret by the organising committee who are committed to only revealing them at the last moment. Rumours however suggest that part of the ceremony will be used to showcase the unique and diverse cultures of each of the competing nations. Also rumoured to be in the ceremony is something involving 1093 of the finest Sorthern donkeys.

Immediately following the opening of the World Cup, the competition itself will start with a double header of games in the Beningrad Stadium of the Revolutionary Struggle, with the tournaments opening game seeing the hosts take on Docky. Following that will be the match between Taeshan and Kjomasasopia, two of the favourites to lift the World Cup Trophy in a few weeks time. Day one will also see Alversia take on the Bostopian Empire, and Miroxia face off with Lurikastan in another double header in Rhuritania.

For now though, we can only wait as the hours and minutes count down to the start of what some (probably slightly biased towards Rugby League) commentators have described as “the tournament of the century”. That wait though is nearly over.

Expectations are high in the camp, heading into the major clash with favorites Taeshan, who have a strong squad. the Knights have had 2 games heading into this tournament, allowing them to set patterns and adjust to the weather in Sorthern Northland. The Kjomasasopia 'A' Squad lost 14-4 to Lurikastan, While the 1st XIII managed to pull out a victory over Miroxia.
Also, The jerseys will be numbered in Roman Numerals, to celebrate National Mathematics Week in Kjomasasopia and Emperors Territories.

CAPTAIN'S THOUGHTS
"I Truly Believe that we are capable of dealing alot of damage to this Taeshan squad, they are a fine 13, dont misquote me, but I believe we have the slightest advantage, in the form of Brotherhood. Alot of our starting team are from Zuzic, and the 6-7 combination are actually brothers, one of the Centre / 3/4's is their older brother. Mal[colm Wiremu, the head coach] is thier father! We are a family, We are a team, We came here to win. And that is what we shall do, and just try and prove me wrong."
Timoti Aedán, Hooker and Captain

COACHES THOUGHTS
"Now, look here. we came all the way to this country to win a cup. And i'd say that Taeshan have pretty much the same goal. NO ONE goes in favourites in the first game. we are just gonna go out there, have fun, not f*** up and score points, hopefully more than Taeshan by the 80th."
Mal Wiremu, Knights Coach

The second match of opening day of the Rugby League World Championship will be between Kjomosopia and Taeshan. What's weird about that? Well its a battle of the Knights. The sellout crowd at Beningrad was eager for some rugby league action as the two teams of Knights ran out onto the very plush grounds. the Kjomasasopians began preperations with a Native dance known as a Tlyha, dedicated to the Mother Ma'a, a Dark Knight Spider who created the earth. They then went on to challenge the Taeshani squad, by means of shouting an Albhedian Warcry from a dsitance of mear centremetres. the action kicked off, with both teams nearly craxcking each others defence, until a sloppy penaly in the 39th minute let Taeshan sneak their nose ahed at the break.

HT score: TAE 2 KJO 0

After the break, the Knights came in hard, but could only find defence, and as it looked like the Purple Knigths would win it, the leadership shown form Sheldon Wiremu enabled him to score two drop goals, tieing the game up. It appeared destined to go into overtime, but in the 79th minute, Timoti Aedán somehow breaks 2 tackles and then finds the entire field at his disposal! running to score, being chased hard by the Taeshani Fullback, Aedán scores in the corner, and the KNIGHTS WIN! conversion unsuccessful. the deafening roar of Knights supporters singing the team song mustve been heard all throughout the world. "WE ARE FROM THE KJ AND O" was sung loud and proud in the Freeland as well, with the entire population tuning into KJOSC to watch the game, a 100% viewing rating.
WHAT THE PLAYERS HAD TO SAY
"ah, very, very lucky to win tonight... we played poorly, Mal will be very, very hard on us at training, eh.... again, very lucky."

WHAT THE COACH HAD TO SAY
"well, we didnt fight back after taking hits off the Taeshanis. they deserved to win tonight, they were very unlucky. on our side though, im going to watch the game again, take notes, and sack whoever was responsible for making poor choices. now if you dont mind, i have work to do."

Docky recorded a shock victory against the hosts in the first match, winning 16-6. A great 10 point deposit meant celebrations for the sports fans of Docky. After disappointment in the Baptism of Fire Soccer Tournemant, not qualifying by 1 point, the Dockian players will be hoping to gain glory for Docky Sport.

The result is correct, the mistake was I copied how the points were scored incorrectly.

Apologies to Alversia and thanks to Kjo for spotting the error and bringing it up.

well, didn't the boys have thier work cut out for them in the first match? lucky to score a victory over a tough Taeshan, the Knights have to face an unpredictable Land de Wood, who havent played a game yet. they are an unknown competitor to us, but we don't fear them. however, we do respect them enough not to bash them in a pre-game preview.

CAPTAINS THOUGHTS
"hmmm, Land de Wood could be either 1 of 2 things; they will either be a useless bunch of s*** footballers who we will pulverise into the ground; which I believe is highly unlikely; or they will be a quality 13 and we will have a good tough clean contest which wont be over until the fat forward sings. honestly, I think we will win, but maybe only by a try. or two."
Timoti Aedán, Hooker and Captain
COACHES THOUGHTS
"oh, well, you know, it's impolite to tell tales of how we will beat these blokes, because i've never seen them play. but, you know, ive heard that Kjomasasopians have pretty much bought out 75% of the tickets, so that will give us a "home" advantage, in a way. I'm looking forward to this contest, and the changes i've made."

How sweet it is! the Knights are undefeated and top of Group 2 after the second match day. In a thrilling contest, the Knights ran rampant over the Land de Wood side, a team that has no nickname, and no publicly released roster. Again, the Tlyha of Mother Ma'a was performed followed by close-range Albhedian war cry's. the LDW team never looked in the game, scoring a few tries, and hitting a pk, but never looked like winning. although their Halves looked deadly on paper, they could not work together as much as they would've liked to, due to stellar defense from the Wiremu brothers, Sheldon, who was recently given the Vice Captain job, and Colby, who was recently removed from the Vice Captain job, both got in the faces of the 6 and 7. in some of the highlight of the 1st set of 40, Tama Wiremu dragged 6 players 45 metres before being stopped, and Yong Erik Horne returned a clearance kick on the 6th tackle 96 metres for the only score of the first half. HT score, KJO 6 LDW 0.

In the second half, the magic really flowed, as 4 amazing team effort tries, 2 each side, made the second half an amazing spectacle. in a play that saw every set of hands in either team, the Land de Wood team started with the ball, ran it 80 metres, looked certain to score, until Yong Erik Horne stripped the ball and ran, passing to his teammates, eventually allowing Colby Wiremu to score under the posts. in what couldve been possibly the best fight in recent rugby league, and in fact sporting history, Namatu Saruken locked horns with a former boxer, playign for Land de Wood. both the players were cautioned, put on report, but both players were let of with a warning, and a match fee. other highlights include a 40/20 kick, which was more like a 10/10 kick from Sheldon Wiremu, leading to an eventual score of the Scrum from Patariki Paora, and an amzing spectacle of athletics, especially Hurdles, from Afa-Afa Moafa to score his first try in League. Full Time Score: Kjomasasopia Knights 22 Defeated Land de Wood 10.
WHAT THE CAPTAIN HAD TO SAY
"we played better tonight. I mean, alot better. everything just seemed to work. there were alot of Freelanders in the crowd, which made it feel like home. we gelled perfectly and we worked as a cohesive unit. there is nothing else to it, really"
Sheldon Wiremu, Vice Captain and Halfback
WHAT THE COACH HAD TO SAY
"we had a good solid game tonight. we stuck it to them and we we either leading or tieing on nil-all for the whole game. good defensive pressure on thier halves, whacks were clean and legal, Saru {Namatu Saruken, Prop for KJO} might need to cool off before we play , but thats about it. a good game was played by all."

Rugby League World Cup, three days in

The Rugby League World has now passed the three match days mark and already people are debating whether or not it has been a success. The government is claiming it has been, whilst some critics are saying it hasn't been, with some noting that only one visiting nation appears to be devout a large amount of media towards it, whilst some are claiming the tournament is too dull because of low scoring games. We decided to hit the streets of the host cities and ask the fans what they think, here's a selection of some of their comments.

Paulie, 21, Beningrad, Sorthern Northland: “I think the organisers have done their best to make this a good tournament and experience is a good one, mingling with the others teams fans and all that. However the standard of rugby so far has been low, and the points scored so far is quite slow, so I'd say it's been a bit of a disappointment on the pitch, but of it, it's great.”

Dave, 29, Corcaigh, Sorthern Northland: “I've been very disappointed by the international reaction to the tournament. I mean sure it is Rugby League and Rugby Union is played by very few nations to start with so to expect mass participation in a league tournament would be silly. But still of the nations that are participating not many seem to have a huge interest in it. I've gotta say though Kjomasasopia's fans have been very impressive. They've bought a great number of fans and they've proved to be a very colourful addition to the tournament and their fans can create one hell of an atmosphere.”

Bruce, 19, Kjomasasopia: “WE RULE BABY! GO KJO!! WE'RE GONNA WIN THE CUP!”

Harpel, 24, The Bostopian Empire: “It is awful tournament, Sorthern Northland are rubbish hosts. You suck. Bloody commies!”

Jakob, 31, Lovisa: “Lovisa win! Soon. Hopefully.”

Franck, 27, Septentrionia: “Ou este la poutine?”

Jan, 29, Heathfield: “Rugby League? What's that? I didn't even know we were hosting it, I'm just out to do my shopping.”

Youssi, 25, Jeruselem: “Wooooo! Sorthern Northland is great country! Beer tastes like Holy wee, it is brilliant. And the women are so hot! Do you think this sexy girl will sleep with me? I do! I like a very much. Let's make sexy time.”

Sara, 19, Beningrad, Sorthern Northland: “Ugh! What's with all these Jeruselemites over here all of the sudden? They just come over here to drink and then they can't handle it. That Youssi guy has only had about two pints and look how wasted he is! But yeah I'm really enjoying the rugby. All those men in shorts with their big muscles. I think we've got the hottest players to be honest. Paora Mikaere of Kjomasasopia is quite hot as well though."

Alversian Team slumps to nil defeat

Following the hype surrounding Alversia's first entry into the Rugby World cup, thousands of fans who have flocked to Sorthern Northland to watch the Rugby have been sadly disappointed. Not only have the matches been poor in comparison to Alversian Superleague standards but also in terms of Alversia's performances, although some Experts have stated that the two are combined.

However, there is no cause for celebration at this tourament, as Alversia can only hope to finish third in the group and now hopes are high that the team that will distinguish themselves in their final two matches and prove to the sporting world that they are capable of providing opposition to some of the best Rugby league competitions in the world.

Kijonawa Kassanari 21 East Fuji "This is amazing, It's fun, this sport well god i cant stop doing it."

Darrell Maxel 15 West Seloz "Man I cant have enough of it, plus its great to see my football idols play rugby, man lemme tell you ive been tryin' to set up intermural rugby for weeks now

Alversia vs Lurikastan

After what can be considered a poor performance in the Rugby League World Cup so far, Alversia now hosts Lurikastan, who are second placed in the group without a defeat. If Alversia are to gain any ground in what has proven to be a difficult group, then they will have to play their own style of rugby in this important match.

At the moment, there is growing discontentment in the Alversian camp over the tactics and teams played by Coach Jimmy Crystal, who insists that if his team are able to play to his tactics then they will give any team in the world cup a run for their money. Sadly, that has not proven to be the case just yet, thought everyone hopes that the Alversian team is at least able to prove itself a tough opponent in the upcoming match.

The score no one wanted to see: a score that shows the Knights, the National Pride and Joy, on the losing side of the table. when the news came through that the boys had lost, a group of roughly 2000 Knights fans in Zuzic attempted to hang themselves from thier rooftops, 312 of them sucessful in killing themselves, after they were involved in a ridiculous betting circle known as "KJO wins, or we go homeless"; a group so certain that the Knights would win this tournament undefeated, that they bet their properties on the outcome every game, some worth over R$600,000. when the Quarter-Colored Army lost tonight's game, which they were expected to win comfortably, a total of 1987 families across the Freeland went homeless, tripling the Homelessness rate in the Islands. Alversia finally has her first win on the board after a tough contest against Lurikastan. However, it was the Alversians who carried the day despite being down 6 - 4 at half time despite two penalties from winger Joey Mallon. The Alversian defence seemed to be all over the place while Lurikastan seemed to be enjoying all of the possession. At half time, things looked bleak for Alversia.

However, tries from Jonathon Hill, Joey Mallon and Seth Banner brought Alversian right back into it and, in a tense final ten minutes, Alversia were able to hold on to their slender lead to take the match 16 - 11.

"It was a great victory," Coach Jimmy Crystal said after the match, "We've shown today what we can do and, though it may be too late in this World Cup, we shall be looking forward to new challenges in the future and our last match against Lovisia."

At the moment, Lovisia are in the same position that Alversia was just 24 hours ago, without a win on the board and sitting bottom of the group,
"All we can do is play our style of rugby and hope it comes off," Said man-of-the match Joey Mallon, "We'll give them a run for their money if nothing else. TThis tournament has been a fantastic experience and we want to go out on a high."

ooc: i'm not mad, but i think that rp bonus should be turned up a notch, or 7. i bust my butt every day to write a pre and post game review every day, and docky has posted a roster and 1 tiny paper article.
Yep and as such, your rp score is much higher than Docky's.
now i know its the luck of numbers, but i feel i little bit like my rp's are useless.
But RP is only a way of giving the person with the higher scorer a better chance of being favoured by Margaret (http://nswiki.net/index.php?title=Margaret) and the random number gods.

And now...

Lowdown on the Lurikastan v. Kjomasasopia semis

Well Lurikastan got out of the group stage on top but will have a challenge against Group 2's second place winner Kjomasasopia, who many say are the better team. However must we not forget that in their first international ever Lurikastan's boys beat KJO 14-4. We interviewed Lurikastan's captain Aberaham Romez. "Well, We got this far and to us beating KJO and advancing to the finals would be good on its own regardless of what happens." Also Lurikastan's Coach Jim-San has has taken the initiative to ask Kjomasasopia and the hosts Southern Northland if there could be a moment of silence to pay respect to those who killed themselves after Kjomasasopia's 16-26 loss to Docky before their Semi-final against Kjomasastopia. Also Lurikastan's Coach Jim-san asked if Lurikasani, Yorozuyan and West Lurikastani goodwill volunteers could collect donations for the innocents harmed by this incident outside of the LUR-KJO semifinal.

why not have a second semi set going for teams 5-8 and a 9th-10th playoff as well?
that way we could all have an international ranking!

On Mathcday 4, they beat Kjomasasopia 26-16 with 4 tries, 3 conversions and 2 penalties.. ooc: Sorry guys, wasn't able to access computer to score the semi's last night, so they and the final will be delayed from their scheduled times by 24 hours. As for the play-off's idea for the lower teams, I don't plan to do it (certainly me as one of the nations involved isn't to bothered finishing 5th or 8th etc.) However if a number of the nations who would be involved in it, are interested, I would be prepared to do it.

Stormy weather delays World Cup

Government officials yesterday called a temporary halt to the Rugby League World Cup due to stadium safety concerns in Gratnesborugh, as the city was stuck by severe storms. Farrenway Park, the venue hosting one of the semi finals is right on the coast, and was subjected to the worst of the heavy storms.

A senior member of the organising committee of the Rugby World Cup said, "The storms were some of the worst the area has ever seen, and the area gets some pretty bad storms, although not usually at this time of the year. The local authorities had issued severe weather warnings to the local populace advising them to stay indoors. Due to this we and concerns of high waves from the sea possibly threatening spectators we decided it was in the interests of the players and spectators safety to delay the game for twenty four hours and have it take place in calmer weather. The other semi-final, due to take place in Heathfield at the same time was also delayed to prevent anything dodgy happening."

Local weather experts were at a loss to explain the sudden storm with one saying, "The area gets a lot of stormy weather but usually not at this time of the year. We also had little warning. It just formed and then quickly made landfall. It's very strange and of a concern if this new phenomenon becomes regular."

OOC: Seeing as there is interest, I will do play-off's for ranks 5 to 10 as well as the semi's, 3rd place play-off and final. The 5th to 10th play-off's will be single matches. The two non-qualifying teams with the highest points total will play for 5th place, then the next two highest scoring teams will play for 7th place and then finally the lowest two scoring two teams will play for 9th. Which means the fixtures will be as follows;

5th Place Play-off: Miroxia vs Alversia in Baile an Conghaile.
7th place play-off: Sorthern Northland vs Land de Wood in New Ireland.
9th place play-off: Taeshan vs Lovisa in Rhuritania.

These three games will be scorinated at the same time as the final and third place play-off tomorrow, to allow the competing nations time to get any pre-match rp's in.

Alversia in 5th place play-off!

Following two victories in their two final matches of the World Cup group stages, Alversia now looks forward to the fifth place play-off against Miroxia, a team which finished above Alversia in the group, only on point difference by the end. It is a match that Alversia and her travelling legion of supporters are looking forward to, as the group match-up finished previously with a bad 10-0 defeat to the Miroxians.
"That was under the old system though," A Supporter insisted previously, "Now we're working better together and I think we may be surprising now"
The Alversian squad is unchanged from the previous two victories though Robery Ryan may be in line to start as Hooker after concerns for Thomas Smith's fitness. However, with morale high and with the whole team nearly fully fit, this match may turn out differently.

THE KJO BUGLE: RLWC EDITION
KINIGHTS WIN EMOTIONAL SEMI FINAL
Just a few days after a total 302 Kjomasasopians took thier life in a nationwide mass suicide, the Knights have pulled together to socre an amazing last minute victory over Lurikastan. the result came as no surprise to the 75% Kjomasasopian crowd, as these two teams had a close encounter when KJA* played this exact team before the actual tournament began- resulting in a 14-4 loss for the A-Team. before the game was started, the stadium was delighted to see the sending of the deceased spirits to the farplane, which can be re-viewd by people who missed it here (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ4dOoAIeaA). the crowd was then delighted to a spectacular warcry, known as the "Taydr Uv Drnrihdfu" Tyhla, which means "Death Of Three Hundred and Two Dance", in which 302 Albhedian Tyhlanc joined the Knights on the field in doing a special post-humeous ritual, then entering tht Tyhla of Mother Ma'a, which they perform before every game. the sheer sight of this colossal routine mustve stunned the Lurikastanis early, allowing the Kjomasasopians to score a try off a short kickoff in the first minute. conversion sucessfull. still stunned by the amazing spectacle, the Lurikastanis kicked out on the full, allowing the Knights to have another attacking set. kicking for touch, Sheldon Wiremu kicked a colossal 47 metres up field, putting the Freelanders about 3 metres out. straight off the tap, Tama Wiremu ran on the inside of Colby Wiremu to score 10 metres in from touch. Conversion Succesful. not much happened for the rest of the half, although there was amazing attack and defense from either team. Halftime Score: KJO 12 lead LUR 0

after a stern word from thier coach, the Lurkiastanis came out strong, scoring 2 tries within 20 minutes. shcoked at how easily they let thier lead get evaporated, both the halves and the Hooker lifted thier game, playing off each other like they had known each other for life. the game wasnt over until he last minute, when Deshaun Grant punched a hole in the dfense, and ran 82 metres to score under the posts after the siren had sounded. after celebrating for a godd 4 minutes, one of the boys had to kick a goal, Timoti Aedán Electing to do so. Conversion sucessful, and the Knights win again!
Fulltime Score: Kjomasasopia Knights 18 Defeat Lurikastan 12.
NEXT GAME: GRAND FINAL; V DOCKY (SOLD OUT)

Alversia finish 5th in World Cup!
Article by Michael Dawson

Well, the Rugby League World Cup has officially ended and, if one does not mind me using the old sporting cliche, it was literally a game of two halves for Alversia. The initial three two matches of the tournament saw no wins for the Red and Whites and even an embarressing 10-0 defeat to Miroxia, a match that most Alversians will want to forget. This time in the tournament was marked with poor tactics, poor performances from key players and, most importantly, an apparent inability to put points on the board. Dark times.

Happily though, the grass was greener on the other side for the Alversian team. The turning point was a thrilling game against Lurikastan, which ended in a 16-11 victory for Alversia. After this, the team went from strength to strength and managed to pick up another hard fought victory over the Lovisians winning by just 3 points. However, warning bells returned as Alversia only managed to put 7 points on the board. A bad performance was helped by an even poorer one from a team who failed to win a single match in the entire World Cup.

After these two reverses in fortune, Alversian Supporters were left to wonder what might have been after their team finished fourth in the group, a sitation which could have been avoided had Alversia just been able to play against the Miroxians. However, as fate would have it, Alversia would have one more match to play and one more chance to get her own back.

The own back came in the fifth place play-off in the World Cup. A match which pitted Alversia against her old Friends from Group One, the Miroxians. If anyone was expecting a repeat result of the previous match then they were to be sadly disappointed. The Alversian team, scenting the red flag of their enemies and thirsting for pay-back, simply outmatched Miroxia in all parts of the field, it was the highest tally of the tournament for Alversia, scoring 26 points and winning by 10. It was a demonstration of what the Alversian team could be truly capable off if it played to it's best.

Now, with the Rugby League World Cup over, people have only to look forward to the SuperLeague starting again in a month's time. Or have they?

There are rumours from the ARLF that they are in negotiations with the Hosts of the World Cup, Southern Northland, to host a series of test matches between their two teams. In what format and in what manner these matches may be played is a mystery to me at the moment, one thing is certain. The wonderful hosts of the World Cup, combined with the team who likes to play to extremes, may turn into an interesting Rugby Match.

MALCOLM WIREMU'S SPEECH DURING PRESENTATION:
I would first off like to thank Docky. you truely are a greater team than us, we are honored to lose to you and only you during this tournament. we had two cracker games, both of which weren't over until the last few minutes. Secondly, i would like to thank Sorthern Northland, for putting on one fine tournament. they may not have achieved a result as highly as expected, but Ma'a almighty, they can host a tournament. thirdly, my squad. I didn't get to see much of you guys before hand, but you guys are a bunch of players to look out for. the future of Rugby, League and Union, is these 30-odd young men, 3 of which are my very own spawn. Fourthly, the officials who refereed, touch-judged, video refereed, strapped, managed, secured, drove team buses, flew team planes, THANK YOU. we couldn't have done it without you. and on a leaving note, I officially announce my retirement from international coaching in any sport. I have accepted a full time job at The International School For Teens, so I can work closely with my youngest. Jason, who one day, will play for the Knights, or the Fynneunc, or possibly the Strikeforce, or maybe all three. Thank you and goodnight.

ALSO: In a recent poll, Sheldon Wiremu was voted Halfback of the tournament, Back of the Tournament and Player of the Tournament, as well as being named as the #7 of the Kjomasasopian Knights Team of the Decade, in celebrating 10 years of professional Rugby League in the Freeland. A tremendous outcome for a tremendous player.
