Myedvedeya is proud to announce our first attempt at hosting an international level tournament, one which I have not seen before on these forums. Fencing, the art of swordsmanship, is a much underestimated sport, and it is our desire to bring this interesting event into the limelight. The tournament will be scorinated with NSFS (Each match becomes a "division", in which the two participants' bout will be simulated as however many matches it takes for one participant to reach 15 points. If both reach 15 at the same time, whichever team was ahead coming in wins. If there is a tie coming in, a random number is generated for each side, and whoever has the higher number wins the bout, 15-14.) A single bout will be generated in 3 "periods" of 4 Simulations each.
As stated in the rules of fencing for 15 point bouts:
-If there is no winner after the 3 periods, whoever is leading at that time wins.
-If there is a tie after 3 periods, there will be another 1-minute period, during which the next touch wins.
-If no touch is scored, chance determines the winner of the bout.
As with all international fencing tournaments, all refereeing will be done in French, although participating fencers will not need to know anything more than:
En garde: On guard
Prêt: Ready
Allez: Begin
Halte: Stop
for more information on the rules of competitive fencing, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fencing#Protocol
Participating Nations:
Each nation may enter one fighter to each event (Fleuret(Foil), Épée, Sabre). Style Modifiers from 0(Most Defensive) to 10(Most Offensive) are accepted. RP will be the main determining factor in winning matches, so nations are encouraged to RP. You may submit the same fencer to more than one event, instead of having three different fencers.
If a nation does not enter a name or style modifier, they will be given a style modifier of 5(Mid-range), and, taking a leaf from Rennidan's book in the WTTC, will be given a nickname of my choice. Unless you wish for your nation to be represented by "Itchy", "Milksop", and "The French Guy", you should probably submit names if you wish to participate.
STADIUM:
Moskva State Athlete's Academy Fencing Hall
Capacity: 50,000

All matches will take place here, at the Olympic-Quality fencing stadium built for the Myedvedeyan national fencing championships. Fencers will be given lodging at the world-famous MSAA, where star Myedvedeyan athletes are trained from an early age. The Rooms and Food are comparable to high-level hotels.

We have no problem with ursines, our nation has an ursine community/government, but they do not tend to care about the affairs of humans.

As for the FIE, it's a good idea, let's wait to see how this tournament goes first though, we don't want the idea to die again.

OOC: Bravo, thanks.
IC:
The Snefaldian National Fencing Federation is happy to dispatch some of its top competitors in the sport of fencing to this event.
Men’s Foil
1. Wodash Faar
Rating: 8
Biography: The top rated foilist in Snefaldia, Faar took the top ranking last month from longtime national favorite Tel Sárdavär. Known for his aggressive style and lightning-fast footwork, Faar uses his long reach and speed to push his opponents up and down the piste before completing the touch. Less defensive that most of Snefaldia's top-level foilists, it is unclear how he will fare against the more aggressive foilists in the international scene.
Men's Sabre
1. Tunggiya, Gobulo Rala
Rating: 5
Biography: Snefaldia's #1 sabreur, Rala was schooled by the top sabre coach in the country and quickly dominated the national circuits with his mixed style of defense and aggression. Described by commentators as a "calculating, unpredictable" opponent, he is known to project weakness and take easy parry-riposte touches. His game is more complex, however, and his unpredictable nature makes him a formidable opponent.
Men’s Epee
1. Birkâsh Hëm
Rating: 7
Biography: In a time where the favored tactics in epee favor lightning-strikes to the high line, this top epeeist succeeds with solid bladework and impeccable counter-time. From a Buddhist family, he puts his meditation training to work on the strip, focusing on his opponent's movements and structuring his patterns before reacting to time out any attacks.
Épée: Tymon Salis
Style: 7
Foil: Alessandro Toruega
Style: 8
Sabre: Marcus Stab
Style: 6
Epee- Max King (alll lowest possible styles)
Foil-Michael Masher
Sabre-Zack Flintston
RENNIDANIAN FENCING ROSTER
Epee: Mokey Fwafwa
Style: 10
Bio: Likes stabbing stuff.
Fleuret (Foil): Lendy Bobowitz
Style:10
Bio: Likes stabbing stuff more.
Sabre: Smithy Swashwackka
Style: 10
Bio: Likes stabbing stuff the most.
All three of the Rennidanian contestants are currently inmates of the Rennidan National Penitentiary. Each one was selected for the competition as a part of their community service and the offer of a shortened sentence.

To the organisers, Coupe du Monde d'Escrime _
The entrants into this competition from the Sovereign Principality of Roumberre have now arrived at tyour venue, but there has been one change from the line-up that was originally (and, unfortunately, erroneously) sent to you: Rubert of Han-Ttsau has been withdrawn from their ranks, for reasons that are currently sub judice, and has been replaced by his colleague Berssonin instead.
Alexandre Brumas [senior],
Chairbear, Committee Olympic Roumberree;
Chancellor of the University of Baree.
Fleuret (Foil): Barrtos (Style modifier = 5)
Gender = male. Age = 32. Fur = brown.
A member of Roumberre's aristocracy, but without an inheritance of lands, Barrtos enlisted in the Prince's Arquebusiers six years agao and is now their third-in-command. He is renowned for his swordsmanship not only in the Principality itself but also across the nearer parts of Bears Armed as well, and generally displays a high level of self-control which fits in well with his choice of a "balanced" fencing style.
Epee: Barramis (Style modifier = 7)
Gender = male. age = 24. Fur = dark brown.
Of slightly lower status than Barrtos, he is also a member of the Prince's Arquebusiers but is known to have considered the (Roman Catholic) priesthood as an alternative profession from time to time; a bit more flamboyant in style than his colleague.
Sabre: Berrsonin (Style modifier = 3)
Gender = male. Age = 27. Fur = brown.
A first-generation immigrant from Bears Armed, more specifically from its 'Clan WestWoods', he is an oath-sworn retainer to Duch Adalberre of Barr-Gundie who is a first cousin (and arguably the most troublesome subject) of Prince Alberre VIII of Roumberre; he is noticeably saturnine in disposition, which probably acounts for his choice of a rather more defensive style than most Ursine fencers -- especially those whose blade of choice is the sabre -- seem to prefer.
When not actually fencing in the arena, Barrtos and Barramis will wear the tabards & hats from their Arquebusiers' uniforms on top of their other clothing: These tabards bear the Prince's arms (similar to the national flag, but reverse the distribution of the red & yellow and remove the central blue-&-white disc) on the front, and have plain black backs.
The hats are soft ones, red in colour, with broad brims that are pinned back on the right-hand side and with a tuft of yellow plumes on the left-hand side.
Berrsonin will add a tabard in the Duch's livery colours (pink & mauve) to his ordinary clothes when he isn't actually fencing in the arena, and wear the Duch's 'wild boar' badge (in the form of a golden brooch) on his chest.
They are acccompanied by Monsegnurr Androkles DeBwarr (as team chaplain) and -- just in case -- Doctor Arrarn LeBruinne MD, and are under the supervision of Messur Alexandre Brumas [junior] who is serving as his father's deputy on this occasion. A number of Fencing fans from Roumberre, and some from Bears Armed as well, have also come along...
Tortuga y Hispaniola

Tortuga y Hispaniola Fencing Roster
Fleuret: Zheng Zhilong (Style 4)
Zhilong is a Chinese pirate, converted to Christianity, who, while practicing a mixture of legitimate mercantile trade and piracy, attained the rank of Admiral in the Ming dynasty. A great seaman and swordsman.
Epee: Jan Jacobsen (Style 7)
Jacobsen is a Dutch privateer who made a famed stand against 13 ships, committing suicide by taking a match to his own powder supply before falling to an enemy.
Sabre: Edward Teach (Style 10)
Teach, also known as Blackbeard, is possibly the most famous pirate of all time. Legendary in TyH for his ferocious and devilish temperament, he attacks wildly and violently on the piste.
Épée: Leo de la Moxa
Style: 7
Foil: Suru Young
Style: 10
Sabre: Samuel Fronz
Style: 3
Newmanistan
27-10-2008, 22:39
Newmanistan will be represented by the following in the competition:
Epee- Matt Olsen (Style: 10)- Age: 28- An aggressive S.O.B. He will be on the offense without every being fearful of the possible consequences.
Foil- Shannon Wallace (Style: 8)- Age 23- Recently found her boyfriend cheating on her, so she's ready to take it out on her opponents.
Sabre- Ryan Edwards (Style: 7)- Age 18- Dropped out of high school at 15 to pursue a career in fencing. Very intelligent when it comes to his trade; a complete idiot in non-fencing aspects of life.

OOC:
I don't know how many people are in fencing IRL or follow it at all, but since this tournament is a sport fencing tournament conducted in french, I thought I'd post some help:
Fencing.net (www.fencing.net) has a lot of news and info on fencing in the US and to a lesser extent the UK, from a very sport-oriented format. Check the Beijing '08 subforums for great commentary on high-level fencing.
Fencing terms (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_Fencing_Terms) for those who don't know much about fencing in general.
US Fencing Association (www.usfencing.org) website for US people; I'm not familiar with the other federations so I'm sorry to be amerocentric.
FIE (http://www.fie.ch/) website, for international fencing stuff.
Hope this helps.
Just as a note, too, I do fence for my university and I'm a referee, so I'm happy to answer any questions people have. If that's okay with OP, of course.

Thanks very much for your help, and I have absolutely no problem with people asking you questions instead of/in addition to me.
Seeing as you're a ref and I'm just a plain old participant, you're probably more knowledgeable than I am.
btw, the french is just for RPs, I'm not actually planning on doing any of the logistical running of the tournament itself in french. (as evidenced by the fact that I am speaking english...) Just thought it would make the tourney seem more realistic if the refs used the actual language of the sport. As I mentioned before, extensive knowledge is in no way necessary.

Coupe du Monde d'Escrime Tournament Draw
Due to the fact that 12 is a really strange number for tournaments, I'm doing this in a slightly unorthodox method, as far as fencing is concerned, and running a group stage followed by elimination. The Twelve Fencers in each tourney will be divided into three groups of four, with the top two advancing, along with the next two best fencers.
RP bonus will be huge, as host I will not RP, but will receive a small bonus (1/3 of an RP per RP period) for home-piste advantage. If others RP, this will be a disadvantage, I will only be at an advantage if no one RP's. The obvious conclusion is therefore to RP PLEASE. Otherwise, you could have a Myedvedeyan medal sweep, and that would be embarrassing... If you do RP, however, as Dancougar's abysmal International Basketball Championships showings demonstrates, home advantage is nearly nothing.

OOC: Quick question about tournament setup- I'm reading the results as individual bouts, rather than pools. Am I to assume that participants were seeded in direct elimination prior to beginning, by international points or something? Or are these simply the first bouts in the pool? I ask because I might be able to use FencingTime to generate tables.
Greal, TyH, Nemanistan: How do you want to do the RP for our respective bouts? I can write up a pretty convincing bout report. :D

"Good afternoon, I'm Johnathon Adams, reporting live from the Coupe du Monde d'Escrime. This broadcast is brought to you by the Snefaldia Broadcasting Corporation."
"The bout we're watching here is homegrown Bajeong sabreur Gobulo Rala bouting against Newmanistani opponent Ryan Edwards. Both fencers are aggressive in style, which will make for an interesting bout- we have Gobulo fencing on the right, and Edwards on the left. Here's the referee about to start."
En garde? Et vous pret? Allez!
"Quick encounter, Gobulo pushing down the piste, the attack fails- Edwards on the offensive, two lights-"
Attaque, parade. Riposte, touche droit.
"First touch to Gobulo on the parry-riposte, some great distance work. Second encounter, it's Edwards advancing, quick footwork- what a flunge! Almost horizontal, one light, touch to Edwards. Score 1-1. Here we are again, look how the Snefaldian moves on the piste- fluid feet, Edwards seems unsure, backing up. Multiple feints from the right, looks like Edwards with a counterattack, two lights! I think that's a touch for Gobulo-"
Attaque, Coup d'arrêt. Touche, gauche. En garde.
"The director has called a stop hit for Edwards, and the Snefaldian coaches don't look too happy- for those not familiar, a stop hit is a counterattack executed against a feint attack. Gobulo began his attack, switched lines, and Edwards followed the feint and attacked. Very difficult call. Returning to the bout, the score is 4-5 for Edwards after a few quick exchanges. It looks like He's getting more aggressive, getting off the line quicker. Gobulo seems to be unsure of his actions, uncharacteristic of him."
Attaque, parade, contre parade, contre-riposte. Touche, gauche.
"And it's still Gobulo down. Here's the allez, and Gobulo's off the line, look at that footwork! And a flunge from the right! One light, Gobulo. Here's the allez, it's Gobulo off the strip, pushing Edwards back, back, end of the strip... looks like he's going to run him off, there's the attack-"
Attaque, parade, riposte. Touche, gauche.
"Poor turn for Gobulo, his attack landed on the guard as Edwards extended, which counts as a parry. Score is 5-7, Edwards still up. We'll be right back after this message."
* * *
"Welcome back, it's the middle of the second period in the Gobulo-Edwards bout, score is Gobulo 7, Edwards 7. The Snefaldian caught up after a few quick exchanges, he's looking better on his feet in the second period. Here's the allez, and it's Edwards forward. This is a great bout for some footwork and aggressive actions on both sides of the strip. Two lights, the call-"
Attaque, non. Contre-attack, touche droit.
"A simple action for Gobulo, out of distance for Edwards' attack and he picked off the arm. A lot of arm touches this evening, the fencers are moving quick enough and reading each other's movements. Here's the allez, and a touch for Edwards, score is 8 all. Another encounters, it's Edwards one-light, 8-9. Another quick one, Edwards again, 8-10. Gobulo's flagging, it seems.
En gard, et vous pret? Allez. Halte! Halte! Carton jaune, gauche. En garde...
"Oh my, it looks like Edwards has gotten a yellow card for scoring a touch while falling, another one will earn him a red card and a touch for Gobulo. The allez, and Gobulo's resurgent! Look at that speed, Edwards nearly bowled over he backed up so fast. Score is 9-10. Now there's back and forth, some blade contact, no touches on the arm- two lights, I'm not sure what happened there..."
Attaque, non. Contre-attack, non. Remise. Contre-remise, non, time mal. Touche, droit.
"The touch goes to... wait, the Snefaldians are contesting, it's gone to video review. The judges are conferring by the video screen... and here's the result.
Attaque, non. Contre-attack, non. Remise, touche gauche.
"A well-place review, the touch goes to Gobulo. Score, 10-10. We'll be right back after this message."

Snefaldian sabreist Gobulo Rala pumps his fist after Edwards' touch overturned on review.
* * *
"Welcome back, and it the middle of the third period, the score is 13-10 Edwards. Three unanswered touches scored by the Newmanistani, and the allez. Gobulo's off the strip- he's off his game, sloppy footwork. Edwards waiting for the opening- and there's the stop-hit, plain as day. 14-10, Edwards."
En garde, et vous pret? Allez. Halte! Attaque en Préparation, touche droit.
"and Gobulo with attack in preparation! Good planning for the Snefaldian, he waited for the moment... the allez, Edwards off the strip, marching Gobulo back, and a flunge... one light! The bout is over, the bout is over, it's Ryan Edwards 15, Gobulo Rala 11!"
"SBC will be bringing you the two remaining Snefaldian bouts in epee and foil later today. We'll have an interview with Gobulo on the bout at the end of the day, tune in at 9:00 or log on to www.sbc.snef to get the multimedia stream. I'm Johnathon Adams, thanks for watching."

In Moskva, Myedvedeya, the World Cup of Fencing got underway, with Newmanistan one of twelve nations that will be competing in the competition. There are three events, the foil, the epee, and the sabre. You may recall that in the recent Olympics in Columbia, Unified Capitalizt States, Newmanistan did not fare particularly well in Fencing. No, as a matter of fact, Newmanistanians often found themselves exiting in the first or second rounds. But this is a new tournament, and Newmanistan brings fresh blood to Myedvedeya. We sent our youngest reporter, Jason Richards, to Moskva to cover all the action. After getting many dirty looks in a local Moskva pub because he was rooting for Newmanistan in the Newmanistan vs Myedvedeya World Cup qualifying match, he made it out alive and was able to conduct an interview with our three combatants.
Richards: Ok, whoa that was fun! Big World Cup win for Newmanistan. After the game, each our three fencers were inspired and went three-for-three in matchday one action. I’m going to start with Matt Olsen, who is in the Epee. Hello, Matt.
Olsen: Good morning, Jason.
Richards: So you looked pretty good out there. Tell us a little something about the Epee.
Olsen: You stab people.
Richards: We figured that, but there is a lot more to it then that, we think.
Olsen: Generally, I’ve found when I tried to explain the rules of fencing and what makes the Epee different from the Sabre or the Fleuret, I lose their attention after I say the word sword. So I’ve learned to just say, you stab people. That works for most people.
Richards: Yeah, I guess most people don’t care if the blade’s cross-section is triangular or rectangular.
Olsen: You’re already losing the audience, trust me.
Richards: How did you get started in fencing?
Olsen: I watched it on the Olympics when I was like 12. I had an interest in combat, and was thinking about boxing but my parents didn’t want me to do that. Then it was karate, but the was boring. I watched fencing and fell in love with it. My parents thought it would be a quick compromise to get me to stop thinking about boxing and I would outgrow it. But I never did, I enjoyed it so much. Just kept doing it, you know.
Richards: When did it go from “for fun” to your career?
Olsen: When I started winning local competitions like, 15-1 all the time. Then I started joining bigger competitions, and winning money so I could make it a career.
Richards: You defeated Lovisa’s Tymon Salis to open up the action. What was your opinion of the duel?
Olsen: He was good. He caught me when I made a couple mistakes, otherwise I don’t think it would have been so close.
Richards: Alright, thanks, Matt.
Olsen: Your welcome.
Richards: Now we move to young 23-year old Shannon Wallace, who was also victorious, defeating Lenny Bobowitz of Rennidan. Good morning Shannon.
Wallace: Hi.
Richards: So, are you enjoying your time in Myedvedeya.
Wallace: I would be enjoying it a lot more if Chris didn’t cheat on me.
Richards: Ooooook, so I’m sure it feels great to be representing the Empire in Moskva, right?
Wallace: I guess.
Richards: Alright, so you are entered in the fleuret, also known as the foil ......
Wallace: Does it really matter what its called?
Richards: Uhm, well, not everyone out there truly understands the sport of fencing, so I’m just trying to educate.....
Wallace: Let’s just get this over with, ok?
Richards: Oooook then. Congratulations on your victory.
Wallace: Thank you, it felt good to beat that loser. I hope Chris saw that. Chris, you asshole, that’s what I’m gonna do to you. They’re all gonna be Chris, every person I face, I don’t really give a damn, I hope I kill someone, I don’t care, they can just all .....
Richards: Ok, we get the idea.
Wallace: Was I done, smartass? You wanna be next?
Richards: I say lets move on to Ryan Edwards. Thanks Shannon.
Wallace: Whatever.
Richards: Hello Ryan.
Edwards: Yo man wazzzzzzzzzzzup?
Richards: Recovering from my interview with Shannon.
Edwards: Yeah dat bitch be trippin’ man, she crazy.
Richards: So it says here you dropped out of high school at 15 to pursue a career in fencing. At 18, you’re doing well to be representing the country.
Edwards: Yea dis is a shout out to all those peeps who said I was bein dumb to stop going to school so I could fence look at me now all you haters I’m in Snefaldia now and where are you, you are no where but in a stupid suit.....
Richards: We’re in Myedvedeya, not Snefaldia.
Edwards: Yeah dat right thanks man.
Richards: The person you beat was from Snefaldia.
Edwards: Gabulo Rala, yeah, I beat him 15-11. It was close for most of it, we were tied 10-10 at one point, but then I just went on the attack. Four straight points in the third was the key to my victory. Rala was a good opponent, and I think he will be back and be my main competition in the group.
Richards: Could you beat him again?
Edwards: Why not, if I can do it once I can do it again. It would be really exciting to win this.
Richards: You’re a completely different person when you talk about fencing compared to other stuff.
Edwards: Yeah you think Shannon is hot when she’s mad?
Richards: Uhmm well, that’s not for me to say.
Edwards: I’m gonna get me a piece of that before we leave Snefaldia.
Richards: Myedvedeya.
Edwards: That’s right, Myedvedeya.
Richards: Alright, that concludes my interviews. This is going to be fun.

These are the first bouts in the pool, there will be tables after the second bout. There just isn't much point to making tables after one match, because it will be the same for every group, 3 winners and 3 losers. I will make the tables after the next MD.

Docky did not do well in the fencing with only one win so far in 6 games overall. James Adams is the only fencer to record a victory against the representitive from Rennidan in the epee
Raul Webster had to prove himself today or else risk more loss. His compatriots were doing badly also.

"Good afternoon, I'm Kang Youwei and this is SPM Sport, coming to you after the second pool rounds of the World Cup of Fencing, where three Snefaldian escrimeuses are competing for victory in all weapons. I have with me here Birkâsh Hëm, epeeist, who's gone undefeated today in pools, putting him near top spot for seeding in direct elimination. Birkâsh, you had some trouble in your last bout against Raul Webster- what kept you on top?"
"All of the fencers from Greal are very aggressive, and Raul kept me on my toes the whole bout. There was a good deal of back-and-forth, but I caught a lot of openings in his attack and picked him on counter-time. Since we're both quite aggressive, he picked me on some of those same openings."
"As you said, you like to attack and get moving. What's your plan for the bout?"
"A lot of people think it's about action and reaction in fencing, but it's really more about who controls the action, setting up a pattern and forcing your opponent to conform to your movements. It depends who I'm up against."
"Do 15/14 bouts happen often for you?"
[laughs]
"Not if I can avoid it."
"True, true. How do you feel for the rest of your pool bouts?"
"I'm feeling good, really, I had a good run so far but I don't want to get cocky. I'm here to win."
"Any advice for your teammates? You're the most successful of the Snefaldian team today."
"Just to keep their eyes on the prize and not get flustered. Rala and Wodash both know their stuff, and I'm there cheering them on the whole way. We're a solid team, a professional team, and we're here to win for Snefaldia."
"Birkâsh Hëm, thanks for your time, and good luck in your next bout. I'm Kang Youwei for SPM Sport- tune in later to see the rest of the pool bouting."

Edwards: Uhh Shannon good job yesterday.
Wallace: What’s that supposed to mean?
Edwards: You did a good job winning, you were the only one of us that did yesterday.
Wallace: Oh sorry, yeah, thanks. They’re all gonna feel my wrath. All of them. They’re all gonna pay for Chris did to me! You see that Chris! Huh?! Yeah, that’s gonna be you but you’re gonna have no protection!
Olsen: Shannon, do you think you could be a little less angry around us? We’re sorry for what happened to you, but I’d like it if we were more of a nice team here. By all means take it out on your opponents, but not us, please.
Wallace: You think it’s easy to be with someone for seven years, waiting for him to propose for about three and then finding him with a waitress that worked down the street? Doing it on our bed! If I didn’t get home early I wouldn’t have known.
Olsen: Of course it’s not easy, but we didn’t do it to you. In fact I think Ryan and I would also kick his ass for doing what he did.
Edwards: Seven years wow.
Wallace: Yeah, we were 16 when we met.
Edwards: I never had a girl for more then seven months. They think I’m stupid.
Olsen: You’re still young.
Edwards: Do you think I’m stupid?
Olsen: Uhm, well, you’re young, people gotta remember that.
Edwards: Yeah man, fist pump! (Pumps fists with Olsen)
Wallace: Ryan, it’s not that your stupid it’s just how you portray yourself sometimes?
Edwards: Portray myself? What dat mean?
Wallace: How you act.
Edwards: Oh sorry.
Wallace: Case in point.
Edwards: Huh?
Wallace: Nevermind.
Olsen: Enough. Let’s go to the stadium.

Snefaldian fencers post top results
MYEDVEDEYA- Fencers from Snefaldia continued a great streak at the Coupe du Monde in Myedvedeya, with the three representatives won their elimination bouts in all three weapons, advancing to the second round of the direct elimination bracket.
Foilist Wodash Faar, who holds the national top ranking, speaking with the Herald's sports rep after his victory over Zheng Zilong, was upbeat and confident about the rest of the tournament.
http://www.fencingphotos.com/FencingPicts/040821_timacheff_AthensOlympicFencing_4686.jpg
Wodash Faar parries an attack in mid-air.
"There's some excellent competition out there today, and the margins are thin. I'll be facing Shannon [Newmanistani fencer Shannon Wallace], who's been undefeated thus far, but I have the skills to take it all the way. I intend to win this."
Faar, sporting a specially-constructed grip from Snefaldian fencing supplier Hacmy, has exploited the flexibility of his foils and the debounce times on the box to take flick touches that would normally not land. He's well-know for his strong arm and lightning-fast attacks, but commentators have noted his slower-than-usual actions in the pool rounds.
In Sabre, Gobulo Rala picked up from his initial slump to take three bouts in a row, the last being his DE victory over Zack Flinston. Rala has wowed spectators with his complex footwork and speedy flunges- a move developed after crossing of the feet was outlawed in modern electric sabre- where he throws himself through the air to take the touch. Coaches have nicknamed him "Lightning Bolt" for the speed of his attacks.
National Coach Alexander Kellerman, showing characteristic bravado, feels confident that the Snefaldian fencers can take top spot in all three weapons.
"We've got a great group here, I think some of the best fencers in the world. We've shown that we can win under pressure, exploit our opponent's weaknesses, and come back from a deficit. I think we'll win this."

THE ROCKET REPORT
EDWARDS REMAINS AS THE LAST HOPE
Moskva, Myedvedeya- The World Cup of Fencing has reached it's final day. Yes it has, even though we at the Rocket Report have not given the competition the respect that it deserves with the same kind of full comprehensive coverage that our people demand. Jason Richards, our on-assignment reporter has been drinking too much Myedvedeyan vodka and has been providing us some rather incomprehensible duel summaries that we just could not find worthy enough to print. Richards has been informed by us that if he wishes to keep his job upon returning to Newmanistan, he must find a way to bring some of that vodka back to Pocono City. Despite our lack of coverage, it's been a well run tournament here in Myedvedeya.
There is one hope for Newmanistan to win a championship, and that would be Ryan Edwards, our beloved 18-year old high school dropout. While he doesn't know much else besides fencing, he has proven himself to the world that he is an expert at his trade. And if he wins the championship, then perhaps he will get a nice endorsement deal when he gets home that would pay more then any of the soon-to-be high school graduates of his class will make. It is the perfect scenario for Edwards, going up against the hometown hero Misha Sukholev. Edwards has always been in the minority, always been booed, and always been chastised his whole life. He rises up in the face of adversity and thrives on the challenge of pissing off those who want to see him fail. With the stadium likely all to be rooting for Sukholev, Edwards couldn't have it any better.

(OOC to Miroxia: I ran each match as a division in NSFS, and ran them in three sets of <gento>4</gento> to represent the three periods in a 15-touch fencing bout, until I had a team with 15 goals for, and the first team to 15 won the bout. This is why it took so long for scores after the RP cutoff, as the method is very labor-intensive.)

Thanks for an excellent tournament, everyone! Hopefully this will become a more frequent thing!
I'm going to be uploading the information to NSwiki sometime this week. Feel free to contribute- the article name is "World Cup of Fencing."

Barrtos and Barramis are definitely disappointed with themselves for not having done better in this contest, although their being rated so highly “in the world” is a slight consolation to them. After watching the final matches in their events, and congratulating the winners, they — along with two friends & colleagues of theirs from the Prince’s Arquebusiers, Borthoss and Barr’tagnan by name, who had also been amongst the spectators — resorted to one of the city’s better restaurants for a very good meal and a few drinks… and then to another venue for [quite] a few more drinks…
Late in the following morning, having shaken off their hangovers through plenty of strong black coffee (and the natural power of their Ursine metabolisms), the quartet make a final appearance outside the arena: Dressed in the full finery of their Arquebusiers’ uniforms, they all brandish their swords in the air and then bring the points of these together with a loud cry of
“All for one, and one for all!”
before heading to the airport for the start of their journey home.
If there is another tournament like this then they will [probably] attend that, too.
And Berrsonin? His expression gives no clue as to what he thinks, but for one reason or another -- maybe to delay facing his lord's anger, maybe on some errand for the Duch -- he isn't going straight home...
