Rules of Vauxball

Vauxball is a fast paced game that is played in an arena about the same size and shape as an ice hockey rink. The goal is situated 8 foot above the ground in the end walls. The goal is 2 meters wide by 2 meters high.

Vauxball is a sport that has 8 players per team. Only 4 players can be named in the match day squad. The match day squad has 2 players nominated as attackers and 2 players nominated as defenders.

The rink is sectioned so that players have to stay in their correct zones otherwise an offside is called

Defenders Only

Attackers Only

The ball is about the same size and weight as a football. A player can use his feet or hands to pass or shoot the ball. The players wear gloves that are similar to boxing gloves but have no thumbs. This means catching the ball in the hands is impossible. It is illegal to attempt to carry the ball using the body. It is illegal to initiate contact with a player who does not have the ball. When a player has the ball any contact is permitted.

The game is played in two 30 minutes halves.

How to enter a team

First you must submit the following information. The Llama Vauxhall team details is given as an example.

Country: Llama Vauxhall
Nickname: The Llamas
Stadium: Llama Park

You must then submit you 8 players. Each player has 4 attributes; defense, attack, Xfactor, and Big Match. A fifth attribute Injury proneness will be randomly added by me after you have submitted your team.

Your team must have 2 players over 30. You can assign them 30 points. (at least 5 in each stat)
Your team must have 4 players between 22 and 29. You can assign them 40 points. (at least 9 in each stat)
Your team must have 2 players between 18 and 21. You can assign them 25 points. (At least 7 in each stat)

The Big Match attribute must be between and including 1 and 5 points.

The next reply helps you understand the attributes

Read this to help you understand how the attributes affect the game.

Your players attributes affect the game result. This shows you how.
Example of two teams:

Bears-----------------------------Lions
D1 D9/A11/X10/BM3/IP5--------D11/A8/X11/BM2/IP4
D2 D13/A7/XP7/BM5/IP2--------D13/A11/X9/BM1/IP5
A1 D11/A15/XP8/BM3/IP3-------D9/A16/X11/BM2/IP4
A2 D4/A18/X11/BM4/IP5--------D11/A14/X15/BM1/IP4

A teams DEFENSE is the two defenders defense scores plus half of the two attackers defense scores.

Bears: 9+13+5.5+2=29.5 Lions: 11+13+4.5+5.5=34

A teams ATTACK is the two attackers attack scores plus half of the two defenders attack scores.

Bears: 15+18+5.5+3.5=42 Lions: 16+14+4+5.5=39.5

A teams Xfactor is all players X scores added together.

Bears: 10+7+8+11=36 Lions: 11+9+11+15=46

The game sheet would read like this:

Defence = Lions +4.5
Attack = Bears +2.5
Xfactor = Lions +10

What does this mean. Read the next post.

How a game is played

Vauxball playing cards are used to decide the matches.
At the end of each half the two teams are assigned 8 general play cards. This number changes with the following determiners.
Home team +1 cards
Defence: The team with the higher defense removes cards from the other team. (1-3points (1card), 4-7 (2), 8-12 (3), 13-18 (4), 19+(5))
Attack: The team with the higher attack adds cards to their own general play. (1-3points (1card), 4-7 (2), 8-12 (3), 13-18 (4), 19+(5))

If you remember the Bears v Lions Scenarios, the general play cards for each half would be dealt as follows.
Bears: 8+1(home ground)+1(attack bonus)-2(defense penalty)=8 cards
Lions: 8 cards
The Bears get 8 general play cards dealt, the Lions get 8 general play cards dealt.

The cards have a certain number of goal chances in them. Once it has been established how many goal chances have been created, the scored or missed cards are shuffled and placed on top of the chances cards. This shows how many goals a team scored in the half.

Also for each half there is an Xfactor. The Xfactor is those special plays that result in goals. Each team has 1 Xfactor per half. But the attributes can give you bonus Xfactors.(1-4points (1card), 5-9 (2), 10-15 (3), 16+ (4)). In our Bears v Lions game Lions have a bonus 3 Xfactors. The Xfactor pack has ten cards with 4 incredible goals in them.

What happens to my players after the game.

After each game every player who played gets medically checked for injuries..At the end of each match a player produces an injury card. Injuries can range in seriousness and the base injury card will say whether the player received an injury and how serious that injury may be (1-4). Once a player has been assessed as maybe having an injury, a Vauxball injury type card is played. This card also has a number on it.

If the type of injury card is lower than the injury assessment card there is no injury.
If the type of injury card is higher then your player has an injury.

The number on the type of injury is modified by the players injury proneness stat (IP). Half of your IP number is added to the second card. There is also an age issue. The age IP is also added to the second card.

18-21 (.5) 22-25 (1) 26-30 (1.5) 30-33 (2) 34-36(2.5) 37-38 (3) 39+ (4)

So I have a player who is 22 with a 3 in injury proneness. He draws a injury assessment of 6 and then a type of injury 3. His second card becomes worth (3+1.5+1) 5.5. He has not received an injury.

I have a player who is 33 with an IP of 3. He has drawn a injury assessment of 2 and a type of injury 6. His 6 becomes (6+1.5+2) 9.5.
He is 7.5 over the starting card and has received an injury. The injury table is below.

Equal score = no injury
.5 to 3 = 1 match
3.5 to 5 = 2 matches
5.5 to 7 = 3 matches
7.5 to 9 = 4 matches
9.5+ = 5 matches

This player would therefore be injured for three matches.

Each time a player receives an injury of at least 2 matches, his IP goes up 1. Every time a player goes four games without an injury his IP goes down 1.

Players Attributes

A players attributes can go up or down. After each game each player in your squad is assessed to see if his stats improved or decreased. The deck of 32 cards is dealt with 4 cards for each player on your roster. A player may receive an increase or decrease card of a particular attribute. The age of the player shows the variable required to alter the attribute.

Age 18-22: Needs only 1 increase card to increase that attribute. Needs three decrease cards of the same attribute to lower it.
23-28 : Needs two increase cards of the same attribute to increase that attribute. Needs two decrease cards of the same attribute to lower it.
29-34: Needs 3 increase cards of the same attribute to increase that attribute. Needs two decrease cards of the same attribute to lower it.
35+: Can not increase attributes. Needs only 1 decrease card to lower attribute.

A player can only improve one attribute per game and they attribute can only increase by 1 point..

Transfers

Vauxball is designed to allow players to have job protection and not to allow money to ruin the game. Therefore you can not transfer a player between clubs. What happens is at the halfway point of the season and at the end of the season you must release one player from your roster. This player goes into a transfer pool. This pool is moderated by me. At the start of each season each team submitted a pool player. All players in the pool get their stats checked each week the same as regular players.

When you submit your team for Week 5 and Week 10 you announce the player your team is releasing. This means there will be 6 released players plus the 4 created players available for drafting. I will send you the players names and their stats. You reply within 48 hours with the your preferences numbered 1-6. Yes, you can try and get your own player back. Which team gets their preferred choice relies on ladder position.

If on match day you find you do not have 4 fit players to field a side, submit your team leaving one place bland. A pool player will be randomly assigned to your team as a loanee for that week.

If we expand in season 2 this will change only a little.

I want to join. Read next post.

First submit team details to my email (Vauxball@gmail.com)

The first six teams will be accepted. I will notify other interested parties when season 2 will start if there is an expansion or if a team decided to pull out. I would eventually like three divisions of 6 teams each.

I will contact you and tell you you have been selected. I may accept 8 teams depending on interest

Ummm...dont play then. Spammed my own message?. Just made it easy to read. All a player needs to know is what the ratings mean. It is a very simple format. I think controlling a team of 8 players with 3 stats is pretty simple. Maybe not for some :) If not they don't have to play. The player does not need to know anything except submit a team each week. I keep track of players stats etc... Please no more posts here. Use Vauxball Discussion thread.

New Attribute
Big Match

When creating your players you now have another attribute to add to them. The Big Match attribute decides if your team fires up for the big games. When you create your player give a BM rating. It can be no higher than 5. You do not receive extra points to create the player.

A Big Match is based on the league table. If 1st plays 2nd it = 3 on the Big Match scale. Any score of 6 or lower is considered a Big Match.

Simply the team with the highest combined BM total receives an extra card during each half.

The BM attribute will increase for every player in your team by .5 if you win. It will decrease by .5 if you lose.

The posts have all been updated to include the BM attribute.
