Mantwenic,

I can't fault your enthusiasm, but at this point you're in danger of spamming the NationStates forum with sporting competitions that you have little idea of how to run.

This is, what, three football/soccer tournaments and a horse racing tournament now. None of which seem likely to go anywhere.

I don't want to seem as if I'm coming down hard on you - that's not my intention at all. There's no reason why you can't run whatever tournaments you want to run (I once participated in a camel-racing tournament here!). I just think you'd benefit from a little more experience before you start running brand new NationStates sporting competitions.

Just to take an example I keep bringing up in these threads.... how are you going to scorinate (generate results)?

Please, please consider participating in a couple of tournaments _before_ starting your own. Perhaps also read the roleplaying advice stickies at the top of this forum in order to get some advice on how to generate the sort of background context that might encourage more sign-ups.

I hope I don't seem too negative; I'm just trying to help.

I would definitely sign up for some kind of horse racing as I am actually a big fan of the sport (my wallet, not as much... one day though, one day ;) ).

Given that, your proposed set up of the competition makes absolutely, positively, no sense to me. Do you understand horse racing, or did you just look for a sport that doesn't already have a "World Cup"? As a nation I should be wanting to build a championship STABLE, not just have one horse who runs "qualifying races". We could have different horses for different race formats.... turf, main track, fillies, colts, 2-year olds, 3-year olds, older horses, route races, sprints etc, and the best overall in each division, and a point based system on each division would be in effect to determine would be the ultimate thoroughbred champion. But anyway I'm just speculating how I would do it, not that I am about to! 2 Groups?? In horse racing??? Why??? They'll run a maximum of 20 horses in major stakes races. We could have a field of 20. (Though I'd highly doubt we'd find 20 interested people, or even 10, or even 5......)

But all that is really a moot point.... listen to what The Archregimancy is trying to tell you. You could start by roleplaying in the Oxen Cup. You signed up for it, but haven't done squat yet.

Here I was looking forward to a cannibalistic tourney, it seems I will have to do my own.

I may be interested in this when I get a few more details on it, it seems Newmanistan knows what he is talking about.

Why with this comment do I see you as one of those guys who are holding on to their betting slip saying "This is my ticket out of here man, I know this is it" :p I prefer card games myself I have a bit more control, though last time I bet on the horses (Melbourne Cup last year) I managed to win $230 :) from the various races that went on. Of course my friend won money too so we spent it on a big dinner and the rest down at our favourite strip joint :(

I'm a card game man myself, that and hustling people at chess...

If you ever get the cannibalism tournament going, i'll be sure to sign up

Yeah, with horse racing, I do. I follow the sport quite closely. I just don't see much interest in it. Tried to do something regional once and had a whole one other person express interest.

I find that my luck is streaky. I'll go months of just being hot and then just hit a real cold spell. I'll always bet within my means though.

I hit a triple this year for about $250 on horses named Brooker D (my top defender on my World Cup team is named Brooker), Golden Boot Strike, and (something I forget) Hero. Guess why I played that. :p

Yeah, true I mean you have to be into it and have a lot of knowledge in how the whole system works from the stables right through to races, and I don't think that there are many people who post on this forum know a whole lot about it, or are even into it that much.

lol, nice work, glad it paid off for you. I always find it funny how there are these sort of patterns and coincidences in aspects of peoples lives.

Myedvedeya if I get around to it I will, it may be awhile, unless someone beats me to it. Also how do you hustle someone in chess?

you play them, and lose on purpose, then play them again for money and beat them... same as you hustle someone in anything else

Of course, I was having a blond moment when I posted that either that or because I have only had about 3 hours sleep in the past 28 hours I'm not thinking straight.
